Giving this 5 stars because my experience was seamless and the pizza was awesome. I've been to Lucali's and gave them less because I waited a casual 5 hours for really good pizza. Here, we were in at 6:30 on a Thursday, seated in 10 minutes, and left at a totally reasonable time for equally good pizza. I can't speak for the more traditional pizza lovers, but this is great for more novel thin crust pizza. Get the emperor one with sesame seeds. It was my favorite of the two, the other being the bee sting. Also really good, but not the hero. I'll definitely be back here -- I thought the service was actually great. After having an average, ridiculously priced meal in Midtown I asked our concierge to send us to an excellent restaurant that was offbeat, and not very expensive. He sent us to Roberta's. When we arrived we thought that Uber had gone to the wrong address. We pulled up to what looked like the old CBGB's, but in the industrial section of Williamsburg. I guess that appearances can be deceiving. We enjoyed a fabulous meal in a most unusual location. We sat outdoors on a cool evening, and rubbed shoulders with some of the coolest people ever. Women were all Katy Perry clones with dyed black hair, vintage dresses, and amazing tat's. The males were all David Byrne clones clad in bespoke flannel shirts, skinny jeans, and well coiffed beards. Our meal was excellent, and it consisted of Salad's, Pizza's, and Sicilian wine. If you have not been to Roberta's run there asap. read more

I have a confession to make. I actually came here twice in one day. TWO TIMES IN ONE DAY. I had planned to take out a pizza for a while, but on the same day, I had to come up with last minute dinner plans and decided to take my friend (a huge pizza lover) here because he'd never been here before. The take-out/delivery portion of Roberta's is a few doors down from their sit-down/dine-in restaurant. Here, you can walk in, place your order at the counter, and have a piping hot pizza boxed up for you and ready to go in under 15 minutes. I stopped by around 1PM on a Sunday afternoon and was in and out quickly. The menu here is a little different from the one at the restaurant. Some of their 'off menu' items at the restaurant are actually on the menu here - ie. the Bee Sting. Of course, given all of the raving reviews about the Bee Sting, I had to try it out for myself and I did NOT regret it one bit. I LOVE the combination of chili flakes and honey and I actually make my avo toast at home with a tiny sprinkle of chili flakes and a healthy douse of honey, so I knew that no pizza with that combination could go wrong. For $18, it was definitely worth trying at least once, although I found the thin crust pizza not all that filling. At the restaurant, we ordered the Glover pizza and the grilled cauliflower. For $16, the grilled cauliflower came out looking like a little mound of turd on a plate. A delicious mound of turd though. I don't know how they prepare it - but it was soooo good. The sweetness of the grapefruit sauce they drizzle on the plate goes super well with the savoriness of the cauliflower itself. If you are a fan of grilled cauliflower, you will probably really love Roberta's take on it. As for the pizza, if you DO NOT like garlic or onion, stay away from the Glover. It is extremely heavy on both. [Cue bad breath.] Finally, my friend also ordered the London Fog (Earl grey tea latte), which was really yummy and helped cleanse our palates after our super garlicky/oniony pizza. They seem to have a decent selection of wines and beers on tap as well. Honestly, their food is 5 stars! However, the bar-like pizzeria atmosphere really seems to clash with what they are trying to go for in terms of the menu, which is much more high-tiered and vastly pricier than what you would expect from the way the restaurant looks itself. I mean, I doubt that the upkeep of the restaurant in its current state would merit the obvious upcharge on their menu items. Honestly, if I were paying $16 for a head of cauliflower (no matter how delicious), I'd expect to at least be sitting at a private table on a cushioned seat instead of sharing a long communal table and sitting on a hard wooden bench. read more

This place is so easy to miss as you drive past; look for the red door! Once inside you walk into one of the most Instagram friendly restaurant. You'd want to take pictures of everything here: from the oven cooking up fresh pies, to the cute decor. It's just very picturesque! They serve up a mean pizza, they're thin, with nice little charred bubbles from being cooked in the oven. Their speciality is the Bee sting, and it definitely lives up to it's name. I saw this place in a lot of best nyc pizza lists. The place is definitely got Brooklyn vibe to it. Cute decor and friendly staffs. But they don't have enough bathroom stalls and it's unisex.. so you will find yourself standing next to people's tables when waiting in line.. Also, pizzas were freshly baked from the oven but the veggie on my pizza were all burnt I couldn't really eat it. White pizza was pretty decent though. The capers on the pizza added a nice flavor that blended in very well. This pizza had jalapeños too; I love some spice! Location was difficult, we actually ate at the take out shop. The actual restaurant is behind a fence with many other units. We took a look in the actual restaurant and they offered the same pizzas but more on the menu like soups and sandwiches. Upon arrival you feel the hipster attitude but, it's nice and inviting. There's an epic wine and beer list to accompany the Italian food and you can't lose if you're into nerdy stuff. We ordered the Lil Stinker with Speck and the Original pairing them with Lambrusco (while "Wannabe" by Spice Girls played in the background [insert heart eyes emoji]). And, already Roberta's gets +1 for offering the fizzy red on their drinks menu; always an ideal beverage pairing for a quality thin sliced New York or Italian style pie. The pizza is thin as you'd expect, but surprising sturdy! I was a little nervous that it'd be soggy towards the centre with all the (crazy amazing sauce), but no. I remember being a teenager, coming across "Can I Kick It" by A Tribe Called Quest and Loud Reed's "Walk On the Wild Side" - every bite of Roberta's pizza is as euphoric and "New York" as that moment (I assume you had the exact same moment, no?) Both of the pizzas we tried were the bomb diggity and took me all the way down to flavour town, but I highly recommend the Lil Stinker and adding speck. It's a fairly (read: insanely) garlicky pizza, so if that's not your thing, caution. It is, however, my thing and hit the spot. All the spots! I had been looking forward to my visit here for some time. Roberta's has a reputation as one of the best, if not THE best, pizza in New York, and that says a lot. Famous people make the trek here. My gf had to wait a couple of hours for a table here once before giving up, and discovering later that the delay was due to the fact Bill and Hillary had come by for a couple of pies. I should point out that Roberta's serves things other than pizzas; they have salumi, desserts, drinks, and a lively bar area. But I came here to try the pizza, and well . . . it was yummy pizza, it really was, but there were some problems. For one thing, there is only one vegan option (only one, in a Bushwick hipster joint?), and it is the standard rosso, basically a crust with tomato sauce and lots of sea salt. It was nice enough, but I expected better. There are no vegan cheeses served here. There are also only 8 kinds of pies (with cute names like Cheesus Christ and Vladimir Putinesca (har har!) We also tried the widowmaker with a little honey (that is a Roberta's trademark, putting a little honey on the pie - and it is a nice touch), and that was nice, and creative. The crusts are, as one would expect at a famous pizza place, very enjoyable and prepared just right, springy, but with a crisp outer layer. The service was brisk, and the prices were fairly high. The environment was shabby but cool, with skylights, dim lighting, and a rough hewn look to things. I am being a little stingy with the number of stars I am awarding -- consider it a penalty for being overrated. I don't think I will be heading back over to Roberta's any time soon, but I am glad I got to experience it. read more

I've had Roberta's before but Sunday was my first time having it AT Roberta's. My hubby and I popped over from Ethel's Club and we almost thought it was closed because it's sort of tucked in to a building that reminds me of old Williamsburg before all the rich people moved in. But the door's just closed and no one's outside because it's cold. On the menu, I zeroed in on the Lieutenant Dan because Gary Sinise got profiled on CBS Sunday Morning just that morning so it felt like a sign. We decided to split one and a side of turnips and I know you're thinking ... Ew. Turnips. ... but these were bomb. Great flavor! We waited a while for the main event. They comped us a beer to say sorry. The lieutenant Dan was equally delicious but I think it needed hot sauce. Next time I'll ask for it. As for the wait, it was Sunday night and it was around 7p. We were quoted 45 minutes and invited to put our names down and wait at the bar. If something opened up at the bar before we got called, we could stay there because the full menu is available. We hovered around the bar, ordered beer and just as they were being poured, the perfect corner bar seats freed up. Believe the hype. Roberta's has a cool outdoor, covered, and heated patio with full service bar-- ideal! They had a hot cider that you could choose whiskey or rum. I don't discriminate so I had to try both and I'm not sure which I loved more! We were sat in one of the back rooms with dim lighting and Christmas lights and rust-styled walls. There was a radio room connected to the room we were sitting. For dinner we got a margherita and a broccoli rabe pie. We also tried a few of their beers and honestly, everything was on point.
