We had the most amazing dinner at Roam Cafe last night. Started off with an artichoke heart appetizer... so good. For our entrees we had Salmon with a dry rub and pork shank with a demi-glaze. Each dinner came with two sides, we chose the Mac and cheese, sautéed spinach and garlic, sweet potato mash and sautéed zucchini . Everything was so flavorful and def made to order, the pork shank fell off of the bone with ease, the chefs are A+ Our server, Mackenzie, suggested our meal choices and did not steer us wrong. We found this café through my Seed Oil Scout app. We have come to Rochester for the eclipse and I just purchased the Seed Oil Scout app so I thought I would give it a try while we're traveling. This restaurant was recommended as a safe choice and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious! I got the Paleo salad with beef tenderloins. The beef was perfectly cooked, better than most steaks I've gotten. My husband got chicken Parmesan and loved it. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful. We are so glad that we canceled the reservation that we had over in the Finger Lakes and decided to just stay closer to the hotel. Excellent decision! read more

So many reasons to love Roam: always friendly service with or without a reservation (within reason--you'll want to reserve on the weekends), friendky service, outdoor seating, sound cocktails and delicious food options. We love the buffalo cauliflower and it's very reasonably priced for a hearty portion. The Bella and Roam pizzas are good, with a nice homemade dough. Calamari salad is excellent as well. An intriguing photo of burnt pizza stared back at me from Roam Cafe's storefront photo on Yelp. I couldn't resist checking out the cafe that served up a charcoal from the Great Chicago Fire. Our party of 6 was seated promptly on a Saturday afternoon and our drink orders were taken right away. So far so good...but I'm really looking forward to that charbroiled specimen. We had a few questions about Roam's menu. Salmon source? Atlantic. Free range eggs? As in, chickens that...well, roam? Nope. Any chicken stock used to make the vegetarian chili? Definitely not, and I learned that the chili is made in-house and the chef a long-time vegetarian. Nice. The vegetarian chili was well seasoned and included kidney & black beans, and corn. I would probably order this again. The Winter Salad with mixed greens, beets, almonds and feta was delicious. Fresh and full of flavor. Both the spinach and green beans with slivered almonds were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The ribeye steak was closer to well done (no pink) than the medium rare requested. The result was a slightly drier steak, though still well seasoned and tasty. The highlight of the meal was my anticipation of seeing the charcoalesque pizza crust from the Yelp storefront photo. However, the Roam pizza delivered to our table wasn't burnt to a crisp as expected, but instead was perfectly cooked and very tasty. My hubby reheated a slice (shared by the original family member who ordered it) in the oven later that night for dinner and said it was delicious. Unfortunately, the Roam pizza never burst into flames for us at any time and as a result, my pizza photos aren't worthy of Archaeology Today, let alone a Yelp storefront. Roam has plenty of variety for a small restaurant and I love the idea of their Paleo-friendly menu options. I enjoy seeing restaurants include some offerings for people with special diets. The tables are large which makes it feel wonderfully spacious and the white cloth napkins add a nice touch. The lighting is soft and romantic with a casual, relaxed feel. Overall, the service was excellent. The owner, Drew, answered all of our questions and gave us the history of the restaurant including its former days as a Vespa store on one side and a gelato shop on the other. He seems very conscientious and it appears that he wants to make things right if they go wrong and sometimes things go very wrong when dining out. On this visit, I was unable to obtain any photographic evidence of a restaurant gone awry, and we all enjoyed our meals at Roam. read more

Yesterday, I went with 8 family and friends to Roam to celebrate my niece completing her first half marathon. We made reservations ahead of time for 11 am. We showed up at 10:45 and were seated. We ordered and then waited for an hour for our food to arrive. In the meantime, the server checked in on us only once. We ran out of beverages and had to call out for her as she walked by to ask for refills on our drinks. There were no apologies or explanations about why our food was so late. Another server came over and explained it was because we had all ordered the same thing, which is fine but no one warned us when we ordered or stopped over to explain what was going on. When the food finally came, one of the orders was wrong and one was missing (my niece's). The server gave us attitude, suggesting we had changed our order on her and she seemed to think this was our fault. We said to go ahead and cancel it since we'd been sharing our food with them, but then twenty minutes later the food arrived. When the bill came, she also charged the wrong credit cards and when we noted this, she again didn't apologize and seemed irritated with us for her mistake. All of us work or have worked in the food industry and we couldn't have been kinder or more patient. We didn't deserve to be treated like we were a nuisance. Some of our meals should have been comped and we definitely shouldn't have been charged for food that took almost an hour and a half to arrive and after everyone else was finished eating. This is just a poor way to run a business. read more

We have been here on a Sunday night over the long weekend of labor day for dinner. Our airbnb host highly recommended this place and it was a few blocks away from the house. So we decided to try. This place has a cool outdoor dining area. We had a steak and a salad with bruschetta as an appetizer. The steak and the sides were delicious, the salad was ok. The bruschetta had a different twist with a panini kind of bread rather than a baguette, which is different than the traditional Italian one, anyway we enjoyed the dinner as a whole. The drinks - Bourbon bliss and glass of Prosecco were well paired with our food and ambiance. Stopped here for dinner with a friend and at our request we sat at a table outside, which was nice. Our server was attentive and the food was really satisfying! We tried the calamari appetizer, and it came with a delicious cucumber wasabi dipping sauce that was so creative and refreshing. I ordered the spinach fettuccine fra diavlo for my entree and ATE THE ENTIRE THING. It was to good to stop! Plus, they were spinach noodles, so it's fine right?! Great experience and food. Came here after a failed experience at another restaurant in the area. I was so glad I did. I had a small wait for an outside table. The waitress Kristy was very nice. Overall we had a great experience at ROAM. We decided to stop here for lunch and I'm glad that we did. It was a nice day, so we sat outside. We had our dog with us. We were told that they are dog friendly, which is a plus. We heard about ROAM, but never had an opportunity to dine here until now. The food was really good. I had the white pizza with ricotta and garlic. The crust was perfect and the combination of mozzarella and ricotta and artichokes was just right. My daughter had the Caesar with Chicken, which is her go to dish. She said it was good and better than most. We also decided to share some french fries with parmigiana and garlic - why not, right? The Sunday Brunch food was just regular in taste and quantity, but extremely expensive! My three bacon strips were partially cold but they were crispy. My two fried eggs were just like any lower priced family restaurant would serve. I do not eat potatoes, so the restaurant was nice and substituted a small fresh fruit bowl. My rye toast was just regular bagged rye bread and seriously lacked any butter with just a tiny dollop of butter in the center of each piece of bread. That meal was $10; I guess that I am not accustomed to the high inflation rate recently as that was high for a simple bacon and eggs dish for me. Please only use the restaurant website only for pricing of each dish, as I was greatly surprised by both the YELP and GOOGLE websites showing my son's Steak and Eggs to be $18, but to my shock, the restaurant's actual menu and their actual website showed a real price of $29.99! The price of that dish increased from $18.00 to $29.99! I am definitely not prepared for recent price inflation. I did talk with the head wait employee but I was told to not rely on YELP or GOOGLE for pricing as the restaurant owner does not update pricing increases on those third party websites. read more

Roam has definitely become one of our favorite places to go eat in Rochester! I definitely wouldn't categorize it as a cafe, it's an actual restaurant with a bar. The interior is very cute and intimate, perfect for any dates or family dinners. It's fairly dim so you might need to pull out your phone's flashlight to look at the menu if you don't have the greatest of eyesights. It's pretty small too but they've been very accommodating for big our big parties (we usually come in as a party of 8-10). Now to the food! The food is DELICIOUS. My friend always orders their scallop salad (fried scallops over a salad, with green olives, tomatoes, and a creamy wasabi dressing). All the pasta dishes are amazing, but my personal favorite is their Saturday special: the prime rib (12 oz with choice of 2 sides for $20 or 14 oz prime rib with 2 sides for $24). The portion is HUGE, and the prime rib is incredible. You can tell they really marinated it. I got it last time with their mac n cheese and asparagus which are also incredible (sad they got rid of their tater tots side :,(. It's definitely on the pricier side but the quality and portions definitely make it worth it. Their drinks are generous too (if you're looking for the stronger drinks). We had a reservation for 3 this past week, at 7:30 p.m. We arrived on time and were seated. It was 30 minutes later before any drink orders were taken. Due to the delay, we placed our dinner orders. It was 9 pm, and no dinner, and no stop by from our server to explain, or offer more drinks, etc. Restaurant inside was not full. There were tables outside being dealt with. I went to the bar and asked the bartender for our check for the drinks only as we needed to leave. Our server finally stopped by. No sincerity, no explanation or apology, just a canned smile and the check. We left no tip. We have been regulars and have been more than willing to tip greater than 30% for usually wonderful service. Quite a disappointment and we will consider going elsewhere. read more

I was introduced to the owners and their child at a friend of a friends' party. Nice people. They told us about ROAM; the $2 mimosas was the main selling point. Months later when my mother came to visit, I decided to take her here for a brunch. I had the meat lovers pizza and she had the veggie pizza. I didn't really care for my pizza because I felt the dough was uneven (too thin at some points and way thick at others, with the crust being very thin). But my mom enjoyed her pizza. Conversely, I enjoyed the mimosas while she felt there wasn't enough "champagne" and that the OJ was from concentrate. I feel expecting un-concentrated OJ from a $2 mimosa is too high of an expectation. It's nice to sit by the window and people watch all the pedestrians on Park Avenue. There is a bar in the interior which is separated from the dining area by a half wall. Overall, I give it a solid 3 for the mimosas and the ambiance. Came here for lunch and I'm slightly disappointed. I ordered the 10 oz sirloin with a side of Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The steak, as well as my sides tasted very bland, there weren't any herbs used for flavor or any seasonings. The steak was a great cut, tender, but it was overly cooked (I asked for Medium, it came medium well). At the end of my meal I asked the waitress to please let the chef know it was overly cooked and she asked if I would like another steak, but I told her that wasn't necessary just to inform the kitchen staff. My fiancé and I were extremely grateful for Roam! My fiancé ended up working Valentine's Day, so we needed a restaurant for our date night on the Monday after. Apparently it is not okay to be open on Mondays though in the City of Rochester. Except Roam was open! We made a reservation for 6pm with no issues but the day of, we called and asked if we could come early. With no issues, they changed us to a 5pm. They even seemed appreciative that we needed the change. Great environment for a date night. Low lighting, quiet, great atmosphere. To start, we had their mule and some bourbon, neat. Loved their mule! It was fresh and flavorful. It wasn't too bubbly either so you could drink it at a nice pace without feeling stuffed. For an appetizer we shared a Crab Cake and the Bruschetta Trio. The Bruschetta Trio was amazing. We can have ordered three and ate it all night. Out of the three, my favorite was the bleu cheese one. My fiancé's favorite was the goat cheese. Hands down amazing. The Crab Cake was fantastic as well. So crunchy but smooth. Loved the cream on top. For our entree's, my fiancé got their duck special. I tried a little bite and it was amazing. Perfectly cooked and flavorful. The parsnip puree was a surprisingly great side. It was funky but fresh! I had the Gnocchi Funghi. Loved it! The sauce was amazing, gnocchi well cooked, and the flavor was there! Our service was attentive and polite. Definitely will come here for future date nights! read more

So we planned to come on Sunday 8/4 for brunch and called a few days ahead to make reservations. The hostess told us due to park ave fest there were no reservations happening but that's it - didn't mention anything about there not even being brunch that weekend because of the fest! SO- When we arrive for Sunday brunch we find out that not only are there no $2 mimosas but there's also NO BREAKFAST/BRUNCH. They had 3 breakfast items as specials but that was it (two breakfast pizzas and eggs on a croissant). When first asked if we can still get eggs the waitress said no it's a different grill and it isn't on and I asked well then how are you making eggs for a croissant sandwich and she said good point. I had her ask if we can still get eggs with something else on the menu and we were told no exceptions. The sad part is we told her we came specifically for brunch and it's unfortunate whomever answered the phone days ago didnt inform us what we'd be in for. As someone who worked in food service you do anything you can to make the customer happy. It's not like it's a prefix menu or there are no breakfast items at all on the menu... so at this point we were done... we finished our $30 caraf and left for another brunch spot The icing on the cake was when we first arrived we were the first customers and asked the hostess for a table outside and if she can just wipe one off since it rained and she responded well they're gonna be damp and I said it'll be fine once you wipe it (it really only drizzled & the sun was coming out) and instead sat us at a table under the awning that wasn't rained on at all because she didn't feel like wiping chairs and a table... ridiculous and honestly lazy.
