The Hideaway hosted an event for us in their back room and it an amazing experience. Food and service were far beyond what we expected. We were having a hard time booking a different venue for our event so I reached out to Max just in case it fell through. Max responded to my inquiry right away and set up a call to discuss the plans for our event. He offered to hold the room for a couple days while we made our decision, which was unexpected and very much appreciated. Based on that interaction alone, we canceled on the original venue we had been communicating with for months and went with Max and the Hideaway. I wish I had known they did events earlier. They were amazing! They were flexible on the time, let us arrange the tables in the room as needed, were very personable and somehow knew exactly when to come by to get us more food and drinks. Was pleasantly surprised by the adjustment to use of space. When I walked in regulars at the bar had to get someone to seat us. It was as 5p, so I'm assuming setup was still occurring. (Parking lot is still ridiculously small with the same mammoth pot holes- iykyk). We ordered the Brussels sprouts which were next level with the crushed peanuts. The crispy tofu with miso grits and slaw- tofu incredible, but the grits were a miss and slaw needed more seasoning. Still I would order it again. I had reservations on 07/26/25, the space is inviting with a hip feeling, me and my party were excited for the food. The drinks were good, we all ordered the pretty bird and our server was great. The food however wasn't good, I ordered the shrimp and scallop risotto my pallet was ready for a creamy consistency that I unfortunately didn't get. The risotto was stiff and lacked flavor, I would of appreciated a pinch of salt and pepper. The chimichurri was a little off to me - it was very parsley/oregano forward and needed to balanced with more acid/salt. But the fries were absolutely amazing, I was literally eating some of my friend's after I finished mine lol. I thought the steak was a bit small for the $33 price point, but it was tasty nonetheless and cooked well. My friend had the Seafood Risotto - I tried it and although the seafood was all cooked nicely, it was a bit under seasoned. After adding salt/pepper it was much a better bite. In the words of my friend this place was MMM MMM MMM! I have been to the previous Hogan's hideaway at same location, which was excellent, and was surprised to find out it had changed. The menu is smaller but the food was absolutely delicious and a lot of it was homemade. I went during lunch too which is now open longer compared to the previous location. Unlike other downtown locations, there is parking in the back. Park Leigh is also next door which is a fun place to peek in while you're there. I would definitely check this place out! read more

This place came to my mind yesterday after finding out from Apogee's that the cake has been sold out. We ordered a buffalo chicken poutine and a gazpacho. The gazpacho is fresh, flavorful and well chilled. The buffalo chicken poutine blew my mind. Being raised eating authentic poutine, I still don't understand why the cheese curds are not well melted with any poutine I have tried in Rochester... until yesterday! The poutine is hot and the cheese is well melted. The fries are crisp till the last one in the bottom of the plate, and the chicken has a delicious char. I am not too fond of poutine that are not made with brown gravy, but this one made me change my mind. This place is cozy and comfortable. Spacious and has a great ambiance. The staff is always extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions you have about the menu. The outdoor seating in front or on the back patio is perfect for these hot summer days. The Turkey Wrap is a MUST HAVE for lunch with a side of the gazpacho soup (seasonal), very refreshing. They also have a long list of burgers to choose from, I have only tried the California Burger and it was amazing. When I went for dinner I ordered the NY Strip Steak and it was one of the best I've had in ROC!! If you are looking for a heavier meal, the Fried Ravioli with bacon Alfredo is to die for. Got a Fall Harvest Salad and Squash Bisque Soup to to bring back to the office today for lunch, and while the flavors of my salad were ok (albeit too many onions on my salad), I was overall left feeling pretty meh about my meal. In addition to a few sketchy looking pieces of lettuce and a small piece of plastic in my salad, I was disappointed to see the sad state of the bacon. What I was expecting were yummy bits of crunchy cooked bacon, but what I got instead were some cold clumpy chunks of soggy bacon that clearly should have had the fat rendered off a bit more. Also, this could be that they haven't updated their printed menu or I read it wrong, but I was led to believe there was ham on the salad? The soup, while hot and creamy, is bizarrely sweet. Perhaps there are others that would enjoy the flavor of the soup, but I won't be ordering it again. The Hideaway has been one of our go-to restaurants for years. Whether for a date night or friends/family visiting Rochester for the first time, The Hideaway has proven to be a staple in the Rochester community for quality food and a great atmosphere. So when we discovered that the Hideaway had a catering business and worked with Arbor venues, we had to oblige for our wedding. And I will say, they did not disappoint. Max, the owner of the Hideway, took the lead in our planning process. We had many sessions with Max where we went over appetizers, main dishes, and dessert options. We brainstormed about what would work for a wedding of our size (initially close to 300 and then due to COVID was reduced to 175 persons). The options were endless but Max was able to help us narrow down our choices in a way that reflected who we are and what we wanted for our wedding. He was very professional and upfront throughout the entire process. And even when we had to put our initial wedding plans aside due to the pandemic, he regularly checked in on us and made sure that we were not only doing ok and in positive spirits but also that he was 100 percent behind us when we were ready to plan again. His honesty, attention to detail, professionalism and most of all, his delicious food was a highlight of our entire experience with the Hideaway. From our first meeting to our event, we were never disappointed with Max and the Hideaway. My husband and I had lunch outdoors here during Park Ave Fest and it was pretty disappointing. I had the Lettuce Wraps Lunch, which was described as: "Build your own wrap, includes bibb lettuce, carrots, cucumber, and tomato with seasonal vegetables, hummus and house sauce. Vegetarian." First of all, the lettuce had dirt on it and it was teared, which made it impossible to use as a "wrap". I have no idea what the "seasonal vegetables" were supposed to be - it was mostly carrots. There was also no "house sauce," just some olive oil on top of the hummus. My husband had the Turkey BLTA Wrap Lunch and said it was "just ok." The service was awful! I understand they were busy due to the festival, but there is no excuse to be waiting well over an hour for a simple lunch to arrive. The server did not bring utensils or napkins until we flagged him down after the food was delivered. We watched him do the same exact thing to the people sitting across from us. He never checked in with us, so I didn't have the opportunity to complain about the food, nor to order more drinks. A bad experience all around. read more

I came to The Hideaway for a charity event that they hosted! The bartenders made room behind the bar and allowed representatives from The Make a Wish Foundation and Operation Freedom Ride to bartender with them to raise money for their organizations. Each group had members around the bar talking about their work and what they do for the community. The bar itself is very cozy and welcoming. The bartenders, that actually work there, are polite and friendly. The drinks were all delicious and well made. There is also a section for sitting at a table setting.
