He then told us to go spend around $500 on new tires and an alignment first, saying that's about what he would charge just to diagnose the problem anyway. In other words, he suggested we spend hundreds of dollars before even identifying the issue. The moment I drove off the property, the clicking noise was still clearly there and easy to hear. It's hard to believe a mechanic wouldn't notice something that obvious. After reading other reviews, it seems several people have had similar experiences where they were expected to already know what was wrong with their vehicle, and if the issue wasn't immediately obvious during a quick look, no real inspection was done. I ended up taking my vehicle to another shop where the staff was respectful, professional, and actually performed a proper inspection. Trust this mechanic, I don't say that flippantly or without fantastic reason, which I'll share: I called to ask if I could bring her the used car I was considering buying from a local used car dealership to give the car an independent inspection. I simply said what I was hoping for, an independent inspection from a local mechanic (I live in Los Angeles & traveled out to Norco to look at this car), that I was looking for a used Japanese or Korean car, & my price range. As soon as I shared the name of the dealership (I didn't say anything about my experience or concerns with them, just the name), Kenni said she won't even do business with them, as they sold a used Mustang to her son whose clutch he asked them to fix, because he could tell it needed repair, they refused, and it went out about 800 miles after the warranty he purchased with this used car dealership expired, the clutch then costing $1000 to repair. Kerri also VOLUNTARILY gave me pointers for used cars, sharing that CVT's (Constant Velocity Transmissions, commonly known as Continuously Variable Transmissions) are not as reliable as other transmissions, which helped me narrow my search in cars in my budget.
