While Rivercrest is a fun addition to Ditmars, it is bogged down by an identity crisis. It is trying to accomplish too many things at once which will be harmful to its reputation in the long run. At a glance, it appears to be a sports bar, but aside from the wings and tots, the menu is much more reminiscent of a trendy vegetarian spot. I had the buffalo falafel tacos and was upset by how much I enjoyed them. The flavor was great and the buffalo hummus tied the dish together. My friend enjoyed one of the vegetarian bowls in a similar manner. The food brought the rating from a 3-star to a 4-star, for sure. The restaurant's decor is pleasant and inviting and the circulating beer list offers a variety of local options that are on the more affordable end. Rivercrest's issue comes from not committing to one idea. It wants to be a sports bar but over half of its menu is vegetarian. The vegetarian options all sounded more enticing than the beef-filled counterparts. If Rivercrest were to commit to being vegetarian, its other qualities could shine. Ditmars could benefit from a vegetarian restaurant that isn't fast casual and offers the fun and laid-back environment of Rivercrest. Rivercrest just needs to learn how to sell that aspect and refine its offerings to fulfill that niche and thrive. read more

I am so happy with this addition to Ditmars, I was expecting another sports bar with greasy pub food and was pleasantly surprised by their menu. I often dine solo and can sometimes feel uncomfortable eating somewhere super trendy, but also don't like sitting in bars by myself. I feel this is a good in-between. Their frozen drinks are great and food has all been good. The fish tacos were delicious and a fave, as was the flatbread and parmesan tots. I love the spinach salad and it's my standard go to. Haven't had brunch there yet, but the menu looks great. Best part is the prices are reasonable. When they had indoor seating, I liked the layout and the clear separation from the bar. Hope they stick around as this has become a go-to. read more

This place is great! We came for brunch twice this past month, and each time we left very satisfied. They have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options, and I'm in love with their beyond sausage scramble (which is hard to find on a brunch menu). They have so many great local beers. Recently went with a couple of friends to watch college football in the bar area (2/3 of the restaurant is a bar and the other 1/3 is more of a true restaurant). We got a couple beers. Good selection overall. Every table has a good view of the TVs. Only con for me was having to serve ourselves. Every time we wanted a beer, water refill or food we'd have to go to the bar to get served (food was brought out to us). We ordered wings that I thought we're just okay. Two words: bavarian pretzel. It is huge, served warm, buttery, with the good high quality grainy spicy brown mustard. I've been here for late-night revelry with a featured DJ, for brunch, and for happy hour, and the drinks and food have always been solid with impeccable service. Rivercrest is one of those home away from home spots for me in Astoria, I've had so many fun memories there and as much as I love a drink or cocktail, what I look forward to most is the yummy upscale bar food. In October 2023, I hosted a surprise party at the cocktail bar at Rivercrest, and I can say hands down this is the absolute PERFECT venue for private events. Food and drink choices were very easy to select, and management was extremely accommodating with our requests. At the party itself, Shane (owner) was unbelievably helpful and attentive throughout the entire party! He made sure without a doubt everything was how we imagined it. Our bartenders were also incredible!! With almost 40 guests, we each received personalized service, and never had an empty hand. The food was delicious, all our guests raved about it!! Lots of comfortable outdoor seating, nice beer selection and multiple vegan options - all great things! And excellent service too. The roasted cauliflower is delicious and a large portion. Tots are great and marked as vegan too. On another trip, I tried the beyond tacos and while they were delicious, they were pretty small and there were only two so I was still hungry. I think I found one of my new Go To bars! The food and service was amazing! Shout out to our waitress Lauren who was so nice and personable from moment we got there. The atmosphere is dark and casual which is my perfect vibe. They adhere to covid restrictions and have a bottomless $25 brunch on weekdays that I can't wait to try. Ordered through uber eats during this pandemic and turns out I was their first uber eats order! The notes I put on the burger order didn't come through (uber eats orderers beware!) so I gave them a call when the burger was delivered with unwanted toppings. My boyfriend is an Iowa boy who considers his food ruined if theres vegetables or sauce other than bbq on it (lol). The woman on the phone, who I think was the owner, was so sweet and remade the burger and gave us a pint of our favorite beer! So above and beyond. Having worked in restaurants for years and currently being an essential worker- i appreciated everything about this customer service response. We threw a private event at Rivercrest and can't say enough nice things about the venue and staff. Our guests raved about the food and drinks and everyone one staff was attentive and kind to our guests. On the event-planning side, the team at Rivercrest was responsive and easy to communicate with, and happy to work within our budget. As hosts, it meant we got to sit back and relax as the event happened, as the staff had us fully taken care of. We went for brunch on Sunday 11/24 specifically because they have vegan pancakes (a truly rare find in Astoria)! The pancakes were very good as was the Beyond breakfast scramble, although adding a little bit of vegan egg or even tofu scramble to it, would make it just tops. Overall, we give the food a solid 4 stars and it's nice to see new restaurants with a vegan section on the menu, even if only a couple of items. I'm taking a full star off for the very sad bloody mary. A good bloody is the foundation by which brunch should be built and I can not overstate how sad this was, seemed like just tomato juice and voda, and in a 6 oz. glass. Had we stayed longer I definitely would have sampled the outstanding beer selection. The space itself is really nice, the bartender and the host we interacted with were very pleasant, service at the bar (where we sat) was very good and they put a soccer game on for me on request. The hostess and waitress were extremely kind and accommodating for me and my family, they adjusted tables and umbrellas to be sure we had some shade with my 3 year old cousin. Well after being turned away by Lefkos Pyrgos Cafe which a horrible place, we figured wow this is bar and we have gotten sandwiches from Sal, Kris and Charlie's deli, and were hoping that we could order beers and eat these sandwiches, which we had driven from Virginia to eat. The girl waitress was nice enough she moved the tables together. We were going to order appetizers and some beers but as soon as we put the bags on the table she made an announcement that we could not eat the sandwiches and had to order food. At this point with one kid in tow we just said f it and order some brunch. I never had been to bar or area that was backwards and draconian about eating. We would have spent more on beer but were made so Uncomfortable by the "Astoria "rules on eating. I think that corner has had a number of restaurants come and go due to management and lack of accommodations. I have been to many bars and you can bring your sandwich and order a beer but the changing ideas of decorum, millennial cancel culture and Greek ideas of dining ( façism =Greek). I am Done with Astoria and the whole neighborhood on Ditmars can just be without my money. I will stay away from Ditmars until there is a sea change in attitudes. Too bad it used to be fun read more

The management here is fantastic which doesn't happen many places. I had an issue w delivery and they addressed it which I didn't expect. I appreciate great customer service. While visiting them, the employees were really nice and the place is clean. Upon a third visit, The wings, bourbon bbq were yummy, had a huge solid pretzel and beer. This is a nice spacious restaurant/bar, and I look forward to them getting out all the new locations kinks. We went on a Saturday for brunch and sat at the bar. It was desperately understaffed. My boyfriend and I are are pretty low maintenance but we were lucky we were enjoying a lazy Saturday since we waited every step of the way, to be greeted, to have our order taken, to get out food and to get out check. The saving grace was the food was good and the bartender and server assistant were super nice. Wasn't their fault there wasn't enough people on staff. I had the wings and tater tots and my boyfriend had the burger. Food was good. Wasn't a fan of my Bloody Mary, but it was just my preference, there wasn't anything wrong with it. A very nice manger type asked us if we were enjoying our food and we were, but was kinda odd that after checking in tables, they were having conversations in the far corner of the restaurant when their staff was drowning. Eventually they noticed and jumped behind the bar and helped everyone catch up. I went to rivercrest on friday night and had a great experience. When i arrived, i tried to go to the bar, but was dismayed that it was completely full. Ended up being the best thing that happened to me. I landed at a table with an amazing server that turned my experience into one that i absolutely want to repeat. Kari (server) was extremely attentive to my needs, even recommending an ipa (garves (sp?) IPA that ended up being delicious. Throughout my time there, including a really good flatbread, the conversation that Kari continued on made me feel like i was the only customer in the restaurant. Good space with a ton of tvs to watch football. Asked us which game we wanted to watch and put it on the tv closest to us. Good bar set up, an area with sit down tables and a little private area you can rent out that has its own bar. Went on a football Sunday only to be told that brunch is going to be served until 4pm and you can't order off the regular menu. I hope they would reconsider only serving brunch on Sundays until 4 because if I go to watch a football game, I would like to eat some wings or burgers. We sat at the bar and bartenders were attentive for the most part, but did need to ask one bartender multiple times for our drinks after we ordered them. read more
