While Sweet Spot has ample tv's around the bar and serves as a spacious establishment to watch the game, their service can be greatly improved. I have been there for regular games here and there and have felt the service, drinks and food have been just ok. Their food is pretty generic in taste, and if you're looking for regular alcoholic beverages, they'll do. What I find concerning is how they choose to conduct themselves during larger sporting events. Now, understandably crowds can be larger but that doesn't mean the respect that you give your customers has to diminish. The reviews recapping a confrontation with management are not over exaggerating. If you come into Sweet Spot, and you're not ready to order a drink in the first 30 seconds you get there, the bartenders will signal the manager to come over to you and rudely tell you that you need to order a drink or leave because they need to keep the lights on and this is not your house. Mind you, in my case, having been there for all of seven minutes, I was about to order drinks, and I also wanted to see a menu but it's service like that, that will completely turn you off. Sweet Spot was a one-and-done for us. We came in before the FIFA match and the host asked what game we were there to watch. We told him honestly that we were just there for food and didn't care about the game. He said they were sold out, but we could eat for an hour and then leave. Totally fair. Then I asked if my husband and I could sit in one of the many empty booths in the completely empty dining room. The answer was an immediate no because we were "only a party of two." Again, the restaurant was practically empty and we had already agreed to be out within the hour, so it felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming. Our server, Laura, seemed annoyed from the moment she approached the table. No smile, no personality, no warmth whatsoever. I had to ask for a refill and she said, "Sure," without mentioning that refills for tap soda weren't included and would be charged. Surprise charges are never a good look. The food was a mixed bag. My husband enjoyed his burger, but my chicken sandwich bun was toasted to the point of tasting burnt. Under normal circumstances I would have said something, but based on the overall attitude we were receiving, I didn't feel like dealing with the hassle. The final bill? $97 for two people, including the unexpected refill charge. Good food can sometimes make up for mediocre service. Great service can sometimes make up for mediocre food. Swung by in a rainy Saturday afternoon for brunch. It was pretty chill with only one other guest at the time (roughly between 1:30-2:00P). Fast and friendly seating and service by Tina (I think that was her name she was super sweet). The 3 stars are for the friendly & fast service, but the food or at least the dish I ordered was not the greatest. I ordered the cast iron egg skillet and sub'ed the bacon for eggs. One of the best spots in Astoria to watch a big game! Most frequently visit Sweet Spot for Football Sunday but its truly a great venue for all sporting events. They have TVs galore and show any and every game you could possibly want. The bar service is typically very quick and accommodating. Food also comes out very fast especially for items like burgers, wraps, and wings. Their Jack Daniels Burger is one of my favorites in addition to the Santa Fe Wrap. Could not stop thinking of the wings I had last week. I am a wing person and week 2 NFLI decided I needed more wings. These are gigantic and the best wings I have had in NYC.. Had dry dub this time and parmesan garlic. Last time they had the dry rub with hot honey added. These only type of wings I have had which are better are slow smoked in a Texas BBQ pit and then deep fried. I would put them up against any wings in the 5 boroughs. My friends and I love visiting this spot when in town! They have cheap beer towers, great frozen drinks, and yummy fries! The atmosphere is neat and they have sports games on, so it's a perfect spot to slip into to catch a game. The other day I went I asked to put on the Yankees and Mets game and within seconds there they were ! In perfect view for me to see both. Tried Sweet Spot for the first time for brunch. This really couldn't be more of my kind of spot. I'm obsessed with the bar scene for starters. They have a lot of domestic beers on tap (bud light being my favorite.) the menu was to die for including absolutely delicious wings with about 10 different sauces to choose from. I would recommend mixing the hot Buffalo with the parmigian garlic. The burgers are delicious as well and have many different combinations to order from. I went with a classic single with cheese and their special sauce. I seriously couldn't recommend this place enough. I've been to Sweet Spot multiple times in the past..always a delightful experience but only came to have drinks. Saturday I returned and sat down to have food and drinks. Being that is was the Final Four weekend, the place got crowded quickly to watch the games on their very many big screen TVs. For drinks we had our usual Coors Light on tap  which were cold and refreshing. I had the Lobster Mac & Cheese off of the small plates menu which actually isn't small at all. It was soo tasty and it had really big chunks of lobster.  It comes out sizzling on a skillet so be careful you don't burn yourself! My boyfriend had the Sweet Spot burger with fries which was hugeee and overflowing with pulled pork. I can say that he enjoyed himself very much and ate everything on his plate. Everywhere you look there are flat screen TVs so even at times when it's packed to capacity, you are still able to see everything clearly. Sweet spot is definitely a big spot and has a separate place in the back away from the bar that is a lot more quiet and less congested. They even have a party room downstairs that looks very spacious, good enough for private events.  Our waitress was soo sweet and very consistent with her service, always kept our glasses full!. Passed by here several times as it's right outside the N/W train station. Decided to give it a try during Labor Day. It wasn't packed but it wasn't empty either. The long bar was almost all full and then there were a few tables occupied. They had sports playing on the millions of TVs. Literally, MILLIONS of TVs lol. There's TV along the bar wall, there's TV along the table wall, there's even TV in the bathroom! Talk about not missing a second of the game! The Tennessee vs Georgia Tech college football game was on and so was the US Open, alternating TVs. The bartender, John, is absolutely the best. He will go above and beyond for all his customers. We asked him if it's okay to change one of the TVs (the one we were sitting right in front of) to the UT football game and he didn't have any complaints doing it. I ordered a blue moon and it tasted like orange soda, just didn't taste right. Told John about it and he swapped it out with a different beer, no complaints there either. Found out later on that evening, the guy in the back had put the hard cider keg where the blue moon tap was. Other customers were giving him a hard time but he handled them well. Some customer asked for the Boston game to be played on the TV. I don't think the bar had that channel that the game was playing on so he apologized for the inconvenience and offered him a free beer to try to get him to stay. He ended up leaving anyway. Some other customer kept asking if he could play a specific song he wanted to hear. He said that the audio was done by Pandora so he wouldn't be able to play a specific song. Like what's wrong with some of these customers? Smh. And by the way, the music playing was awesome. As we were attentively watching the football game, when it got closer to midnight John turned off Pandora and let us watch the TV with sound. It was amazing!! I've been having such a hard time trying to find a good sports bar in Astoria because most places are just pubs and/or places to relax and talk. Sometimes we just want a bar, yell at a TV, and have a good time! We also ordered chicken wings, 10 pcs. John let us pick 2 toppings because I don't like spicy but my boyfriend does.
