Sunswick is a corner tavern serving cold beer and hot meals. The bar has many seats and the beverage options run the gamut. Food skews American: burgers, fries, cheese sticks, tacos, nachos, soups, salads, etc. The eats have been tasty the few times I've dined here; tots poutine are a gluttonous treat and the cheeseburger sliders are big and ideal for sharing. The ambiance is pleasant. It's a clean establishment with a variety of tables and booths including high-tops by the front windows that, on a recent Saturday afternoon, were adorned with decorative Oktoberfest-patterned runners. DELIVERY REVIEW -- I would honestly give this place more like a 3.5 since some things have been amazing like their chicken quesadilla that has a nice crispy tortilla and their breakfast burrito, but then there has been a really bad miss with their Mexican cactus salad (so soggy and bland). Since that's out of the way, I will say, this is the second or third time I've gotten their quesadilla and it's been ON POINT every time. The chicken and peppers inside are flavorful, the salsa they give with it is delicious, and their guac has actual chunks of avocado in it unlike other places that most likely just got store bought guac. Honestly one of my favorite places for a quesadilla. It is always still warm when I get it too and the top is still crispy. I've also been a fan of their boneless chicken wings and my fiancé is the breakfast burrito fan. We went all the way to Sunswick from my neck of the woods by Ditmars just to try their Ahi Tuna burger because my boyfriend raves about how out of this world delicious it is. Unfortunately, our server told us that it was taken off of their menu a few month's ago since it wasn't popular enough?! Please bring it back, and if not then please remove it from the actual menu because it is misleading. We opted for Quesadilla's and they were both very delicious! We had the hanger steak quesadilla, and the mushroom and epazote quesadilla - wow! It was very fresh and the tortilla was nice and crispy, and you get a small side of guac, sour cream, and a salsa. Definitely a must try, and even though my feelings are hurt about the Ahi Tuna Burger, you've won me with your delicious quesadilla's and we will definitely return! Cheers and good eats! read more

Overall was just ok, seems perhaps to be a bit hit or miss on different items. Appreciate the breadth of the menu and the fact that items are fairly priced. Chicken was good. Waffle fries weren't good, stale and chewy. The veggie breakfast burrito was fine, the veggies are stir/pan fried that taste like leftovers, versus fresh with any crisp left. The overall effect was an iffy, solely soft texture to the burrito. The mac and cheese itself was good! Went to Sunswick to meet some friends to watch the Super Bowl. The food was delicious and the drinks were good and strong. Highly recommend the Shrimp Tacos and wings! The space itself is dark and cozy - will definitely be back! read more

Apparently this is the go-to dive bar in the Kaufman area. Service is good, drinks aren't particularly cheap but whatever. It's a neighborhood spot with your ordinary bar food. Not much else to say. Oh, and I heard it's a Steelers bar that doesn't actually show the games. LOL. read more

It's been a while since I have been cat-fished by a restaurant's photos, but it happened here. Everything that I ordered for this delivery was extremely disappointing and I am so confused as to the food that arrived since I literally looked up this restaurant including checking out photos and I am dumfounded at what I received. 2 stars since I didn't find any bugs or hair in my food. 1 star since they did not forget to include anything in the order and read the notes. I think of the most disappointing thing to me may have been the 'Old Fashioned Chicken Sandwich' which I thought would be coming on an old fashion biscuit, stacked w mashed potatoes. (see photo that I found from another review) The fries were also incredibly disappointing and didn't look anything like the photos, were soggy upon arrival and didn't reheat well. I ordered both 'pomme frites' and 'shoestring'. I wasn't expecting the Pomme frites to be as good as the ones sold at 'Pomme Frites' an east village fry spot, but these were def. not great and both seemed to be frozen to be honest. Please look at other review photos of their fries. It def will not show you these pasty soggy frenchies. Should have checked the Seamless reviews as well, but perhaps food is better to be eaten on site and the great reviews are for people who thought the food was great because they already had a couple of cocktails and beer. Came here 4 years ago and things have changed. It's so dark you can't see the floors and it feels like the furniture is very worn out. No one came to take our order so we ended up going to the bar to place our order. It got busy because of trivia night which made it lively and fun. However food came out very slowly and the beers on tap weren't very good. All in all if it wasn't for trivia night I wouldn't come back here. I usually go here for fries. The straight fries are pretty good. I wouldn't recommend the crinkled fries. The staff is pretty nice too!

My husband and I used to come here to eat years ago. We always loved it. Never had any complaints. Service was fast. Wait staff were excellent and friendly. Food was amazing. Today we ordered take out to celebrate my husbands 4 th anniversary of his lung transplant. The food was amazing as usual. We were told it would take 30 minutes. When I got there the food was already packed and ready to go and it was less than 30 minutes. We can't believe how much food we got for such a reasonable price. . The hamburgers have to be one of the best if not the best. The nachos were amazing. Can't say enough of this place. If you haven't been here, go see for yourself. Dive-ish looking bar off to the corner on 35th and 35th with a surprisingly extensive beer list and some good bar food options available. Was not crowded on either the weekday night or weekend afternoon that I stopped by, as there is plenty of seating available inside. Draft beers range from $7-10 depending on type/size, and if there's nothing worth getting on tap then the can list has unique options as well. For food, have tried the Guacamole+Chips ($12), Pico De Gallo+Chips ($8), and the Mexican Street Corn ($6). Chips are always warm and plentiful - pico de gallo is a little too sweet but fine flavor, guacamole is creamy though could be spicier. The corn is the best of the bunch - a large cob topped with cheese, mayo, and some spicy seasoning. On the weekend the service was fantastic, waning a bit more on the weekday night. Not the most hopping place for a sports bar, yet better for more of a chilled vibe. read more

Great beer selection and friendly staff who seem to enjoy waiting on people, answering questions about beer and serving them quickly. Went with some friends for a few beers on a Saturday night and got multiple tasty beers and some onion rings which were spectacular. Sunswick....tucked away quietly on 35th avenue just far away enough from the bustle of Broadway you'll find this dark, cool piece of paradise. Woodsy, and did I saw dark? BOO! hahaha. A great selection of on tap beers and a great variety of canned elixirs as well, always cold. Always fresh. And the food.....omg....bar food to DIE for. Huge portions, which my taste buds love and keeps my gym membership going. All of the sandwiches are sinfully delicious, and the Mexican food is better than many Mexican restaurants. They always have good music playing too! Rock and roll baby! Cons....I would have liked to have seen some more PRIDE fanfare, c'mon guys we're in Astoria not Arkansas! Some of the bartenders seem to be in their own world at the time. They need to improve that but otherwise, Sunswick has become one of my favorite retreats for some delicious num nums and cold beer. read more

I am really disappointed in my delivery experience. This is my first order from this restaurant and likely will be my last. First, I ordered a chicken chimichanga which was 50% mashed potatoes. Nowhere have I ever had mashed potatoes in Mexican food and if this is how they serve this dish (I don't know how this could be a mistake) I think it's important to make that clear in your delivery menu. It meant I had to deconstruct my entire meal just to taste anything but mashed potato. I ordered spin artichoke dip and it came with unsalted flavorless chips and a weird texture to the dip. Too many times I've been wandering around this part of Astoria late at night, only to find Sunswick open. Whether it's simply a late night get together, a midnight west coast sports viewing, or just inclement weather and no rush to head home, this is my spot for beers, food, and good company. Not too divey and not too big, there isn't much room to mingle and move around sans the bar itself. There are quite a few tables, with waitress service to boot. It's good place to sit and drink while grabbing a bite of food with friends and/or dates. There are plenty of taps to satisfy most beer lovers and a very impressive selection of craft beers. The bartenders know what they're doing when it comes to whipping up a stiff cocktail. Don't be afraid to ask for more pour action. On the food front, it's pseudo mix of American pub fare with cafe style execution. There are going to be nachos, wings, and quesadillas, but there is also a decent selection of salads (big ups to the beet salad!), soups, and sandwiches with a semi-gourmet edge. If one orders the signature burger ($14), just know the fries ($4) are an additional charge. The menu admittedly feels pricey for the area, but then again most nearby drinking holes aren't the Sunswick either. The crowds are never much of an issue and the corner they're located at (35th & 35th) is sleepy enough to consider this an ideal neighborhood bar. Aside from the men's restroom being a bit whack (urinal is constantly broken and it's claustrophobic), stay for live entertainment, solid food menu, drinks for days, and be sure to bring fun people. read more

Sunswick has great bar food, and friendly bartenders The ambiance is laid back, the customers seem to know each other. So it feels homey, depending on who you are it could be a nice thing. For me it is, I appreciate when the bar tender greets me and knows my drink, which is why I continue to go back to them. The music is also not crazy loud so it allows people to speak at a normal volume and allows others to study. So the food, it's justly priced and the food is so good, the first Item I've ever had in the menu is a buttermilk chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, it blew me away. Decided to check out this bar from a recommendation from a friend. I've always walked past it but never went inside. I've always thought it was a tiny bar, and going inside it was still pretty small. I do love their large assortment of beer offerings all presented on an electronic screen. Staff seems really friendly. Great pitcher deal. We ended up getting $26 IPA pitcher. Food was pretty good. Very flavorful and delicious. Downside there is no waitress service and you have to place all your orders at the bar. Other than that, will have to check it out again. This bar is easily my favorite bar in Astoria. It has a great vibe, and I don't even mind all the TVs with sports games blasting; the sports is not the main event if you don't want it to be. The bartender was informative and let us taste some stouts before choosing an entire pint. I saw some beers advertised that I hadn't seen since I left Hopleaf, my favorite Belgian bar in Chicago. However, I was sad that three of the beers I would have tried were all out, including one I had been searching for all over the city (Dogfish Head Punkin Ale). Granted, the beers that were missing were seasonal, but it just got my hopes up. Then again, I'll definitely be back again soon to try some other beers. This appears to be a cafe/carry out offshoot of Sunswick. They have coffee, bagels, etc, and Mexican! With Stumptown coffee, it's very exciting for the neighborhood. So far, we have only had a coffee, but the place looks/feels great. Staff is friendly. Looking forward to future visits! read more

Visited this bar on a Friday evening. My friend and I came from the Museum of Moving Images and we were looking for somewhere where we could grab some drinks and eat good food. Our drinks were fine, there's a good selection of beers but I wasn't familiar to the selection that they had to but the one I chose was good. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name lol. For our food, I got sliders and waffle fries. I didn't enjoy my sliders at all, they were dry with no flavor. I only ate one and I was done. The waffle fries were pretty good though. I wish I would have just got an order of those. My friend got the got the honey chipotle wings which were okay. They weren't bad but there wasn't anything special about them. That old fashioned chicken sandwich is absolutely disgusting. The gravy is an unappetizing color and tastes like it's made from cow parts that's been rotting for weeks. Why would you load a mayo filled coleslaw on a sandwich with friend chicken, mashed potatoes AND gravy. You're asking for it to be disgusting--just put some of that shit on the side. The biscuit is so dry, and even when fully cooked still manages to take like raw dough. I used to like Sunswick, now I just feel like I'm wasting money ordering from here.
