The food was extremely good and super filling! I ordered the pad pen which was so delicious and a little bit spicy but I liked it. My friend ordered the chicken fried rice (I believe that's what it's called on the menu, correct me if I'm wrong). But this place had really great food and super nice service. The only thing that threw me off was how long it took for the food to get to us, ~ 30 mins. However it was Memorial Day and they were really busy with take out orders, so I understand. But other than that, great service, great atmosphere, great food, would go again! read more

This place is fairly new. I'm very excited to get a new sit down Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. My bf and I came here for lunch today. They had the lunch special - an entree with a free spring roll or salad. We really liked the vibe and the decor of the place. The food was beautifully presented, and tasted great! Service was great too. Definitely coming back here again soon! (P.S. We had the Thai Pumpkin Custard for dessert, something we've never had before, and we it was heavenly! The restaurant desert that is Amsterdam Ave is looking a little bit more like an oasis. Kind of... Shrimp Tempura & Roti Canai were delish. My daughter loved her Pad Basil Tofu. "Perfect amount of spice" she says. I basically drank the Roti Canai sauce, it's got the balanced amount of chicken, curry & coconut. omg. Great portion size. We will go back to try out their desserts soon. One very tiny drawback is the music. I felt like I was going to fall asleep. They need a set playlist or something more lively. If I were at a spa getting a massage maybe it'd be more acceptable. But who wants to fall asleep over their Pad See Ew? Not I. To end on a good note, River is a great addition to the nabe. Beautiful restaurant with great food. The restaurant has gorgeous decor that sets a wonderful ambience. The service is excellent. The food is delicious! I have tried their Tofu Pad Thai and Vegetable Green Curry. Both were about ~$15 which is a little pricey for vegetable dishes in that area but on par with prices downtown. And if you're not too hungry, you can get two servings out of a meal. The Tofu Pad Thai was very saucy which I like. Dry Pad Thai is the worst. The tofu was lightly fried and not soggy which was great. The flavors were great. The portion size on this dish was large. The Vegetable Green Curry was also great! This dish usually comes with tofu and vegetables but I opted for vegetable only as I'm not fan of tofu in curries. The only thing that could improve this dish is if their curry was thicker. The curry is on the watery side but somehow still packs a very authentic green curry flavor which I usually don't find with curries that aren't thick. This portion size is more true to a single serving if hungry. I look forward fo trying some of their other dishes. I highly recommend. read more

This restaurant opened a few days ago as a sister restaurant to Mumbai Masala. I don't eat Indian food but I'm down with Thai, so I went with some neighbors tonight to check it out. We were not disappointed! The service was top-notch and the food was delicious. I also liked the clean, interesting decor. I go to a LOT of Thai food whenever I am in a new city. The first thing I do is order a Thai Tea because in my experiences I have noticed if the Thai Tea is premixed or not prepared properly then the food is typically bad. I guess the reason being is that if they don't take time with the Thai Tea which is t the food then they may not take much care with the food either. The Thai Tea here IS GREAT. Not premixed, separates, smoky flavor, not too sweet, just sweet enough. Admittedly I like it sweet and with a little less crime but that's just my preference. I got the Pad Thai and it was EXCELLENT. Every bit as good as the best Thai I've ever had. Restaurant has a very calming effect. Atmosphere and ambiance is very relaxing. Lighting is great. Space was maximized and plenty of variety and class in the entire look of the restaurant. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. They are NEW here and only open about a month. Come check it out. I would come back any time I'm in NYC. 5 STARS!!!!! read more

Excellent Drunken Noodles! I got mine with mock duck and it was PERFECT. Spicy enough to clear the sinuses but not spicy enough to make one run for milk. Delicious! Also I got the clear broth veggie soup which offset the spice of the drunken noodles perfectly. I will order from them again. One day I may even go there but their delivery is so incredibly prompt that I can have their fabulous food in underwear and socks. Ok. TMI. Just know the food is super good. read more

Welcome to fabulous Thai served in a stylish setting with a smile. So happy we finally have a downtown style Thai place uptown. I went with a small group and we tried 3 appetizers including fish cakes - all were outstanding. The papaya salad was as good as any I've had in Thailand. Tasty! My friend had massaman curry with shrimp and I had Thai fried rice with squid. Both were outstanding. My mate had pad Si yu with beef and he loved that too. The Thai iced teas were perfect- too sweet for me as usual but well done and "good if you like it". There is no liquor served here as the place is owned by the folks at the halal Indian place right next door. I'm glad they hired an all Thai cook and waitstaff to present a quality "real" Thai experience in Hamilton Heights. This place is sure to become popular as aren't any decent places for a nice sit down Thai meal for literally miles around. But even if there were tons of other places, River would stand out. This was a delivery order through uber eats:The food came well packed and everything was well prepared and was fresh! Everything I ordered was so flavorful and delicious! The beef drunken noodles had the perfect amount of spicy, the beef was tender and like I said so flavorful. The Pad chicken was also very good, good amount of chicken and vegetables and the broth well seasoned. Also had steamed vegetables dumplings they were a little too soggy but what are fingers for, right? Lol besides that they were yum. Absolutely lovely! The restaurant allows for BYOB- so my husband, and our very good friends- another couple came here for dinner. We sat out front sipping our wine and enjoying the delicious food. I never had Thai Iced Coffee before but we tried it and it was sweet (but not too much) and the coffee was smooth, not bitter at al. The waitress -Gigi- gets 6-stars, sweet, friendly and helpful. Food and Service was great! No complaints at all. Food was full of flavor and fresh. This was my first time trying Thai food so I don't have anything to compare it to. The restaurant was empty but delivery was very active. The appetizers and food arrived fast and hot. Our main dish arrived before we finished our appetizers. No complaints about that! This is my go-to neighbourhood thai restaurant. The staff are welcoming and get to know regulars. I've never actually eaten in the restaurant, only done pick up and delivery orders but everything I've had off the menu is at least solid and goes up from there (and i've tried a LOT of the menu at this point). I particularly like the curry puffs and roti canai from the apps. Don't sleep on the thai iced tea and the lunch specials. read more

We both had the chicken pad Thai and the chicken basil steamed dumplings one night this week for delivery. I say that they had good reviews so far so figured why not give River Thai a try. The delivery i kid you not showed up 30 minutes earlier than expected. Pad Thai had the classic flavor that you're looking for the dumplings were tasty and fresh. Very surprised by all the 4 and 5 star reviews. Perhaps I caught them on an off night but my experience was not good. When I walked in no one greeted or seated me. There were only two other tables eating and it's not a large place so I assumed someone would show up soon. I sat for about 5 min. before someone came and asked me if had ordered already (?) I said no and asked for menu. Ordered Pad Thai (boring, I know but I like it) Food came out quickly enough but was very bland, no peanuts or scallions on top and was pretty dry and flavorless. No one came to check on food until I was about half finished. Told the waitress it wasn't great, didn't have much flavor, and why no peanuts on Pad Thai? She basically just looked at me and smiled. I asked if she could bring some chili oil and peanuts (why do I have to ask?) Another person came by, Indian dude so I assume one of the owners (since they own the Indian place next door as well) I told him same. He said "the chef is off tonight" I told him that's funny because I'm eating here tonight, and you are open. He made no attempt to do anything. Otherwise service pretty spotty. No one refilled my (empty) water glass. Check came, paid and left. They seem like nice people but made zero attempt to do anything about a bad meal. I guess I don't get the point of asking how the food is if you are not going to respond when the answer is "not so great" Doubt I'll be back. read more

Glad there's a Thai spot in the neighborhood! Went in for lunch and both food and service did disappoint. They serve your basic traditional Thai fare. I recently moved nearby and was excited to try this place, esp since there was no Thai in my old nyc neighborhood. River Thai is awesome. I know it's a bit cliche to order pad thai, but I did anyway because I like comparing it to other places, as well as the pad thai I had once upon a time in Bangkok. River Thai held its own against the best pad thai I've had. My boyfriend had a curry dish that was equally great. We went on a Thursday night and it was empty, which was fine by me, but I hope for their sake that the weekends are busier! Great service and friendly staff. I've been to River twice now since they opened two weeks ago, once for lunch and once for dinner Each time I found the service fantastic and the food well above average for your basic New York Thai. The restaurant is quite small but beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. The staff is highly accommodating and will adjust levels of spiciness and also explain the dishes to you. (Also, while I am not a huge chicken satay fan, I can confirm that it is available although it's not on the menu.) They seem very proud of their restaurant, and they should be. I hope they get a lot of good support so they can stay in the neighborhood for a long time. read more
