I got the lunch special chicken and broccoli, it came with fried rice (chicken, pork or veggie) for $8. Overall pretty standard, fried rice was fluffy and not as oily as some other places which is a plus. I do wish it came with a drink or a small app, but for that price I guess you can't beat it. I can't resist ordering from this place when visiting the boyfriend. We've ordered the same thing so many times, I'm sure they know it's us. Absolutely obsessed with their Sesame Tofu (extra crispy) which comes with a little bit of broccoli and a side of white rice. We've also had their veggie fried rice (no cabbage), broccoli in garlic sauce (light sauce) and scallion pancakes. Definitely give them a try! Oh, and they're always early! I ordered First choice my first night in my new apartment in 2013, and it's been my go-to ever since. My usual is the cold sesame noodles, which are outstanding and the sesame noodles I compare all others to. The egg rolls are also excellent. Other menu items of note are the sweet cheese wontons, which are delicious, the pork spare ribs, the scallion pancakes, the house fried rice, and the steamed pork dumplings. They're always quick also. I got really scared this summer when I thought they'd closed, but they're still going. This will be my place as long as I live uptown. read more

This is my go to Chinese spot in the Washington heights area. Honestly, I get the same thing every time. General Tso's chicken with either fried rice or lo mein. This dish is made perfectly in my opinion. The chicken isn't soggy and had a little crunch just like I like it. I also like their sweet cream wontons. You can get 10 for $5. Both of these meals are enough to make two meals out of honestly. The curry chicken was good. Just what I was looking for in taste. Not spicy like the description suggests, but that's fine. However, it doesn't save well. I put it in the fridge and ate it a couple days later and chicken was fine, but the rice with the curry sauce was not that good. It's like it had seeped too long in the sauce. The reverse is true for the General Tso's chicken, though also not spicy like the description suggests. The chicken is better when it's fresh because you can still feel a lil crunch on it. Still good though. I got it with pork fried rice. There were easily 10 pieces of tiny pork cubes. I called tonight to order for delivery and after a prolonged amount of time placing my order since I wasn't understood properly, I told the man on the phone my address. He said he doesn't know where that is, that he's sorry, and hung up on me. What the hell? You tell me. He didn't even ask for the cross street, directions, or anything else. He just said he doesn't know my address then the next thing I knew the line was quite. My delivery address isn't even far away from this place - it's pretty much in the same neighbourhood. And to think I was looking forward to trying this place after all the positive reviews. If I ever actually try First Choice, I'll update this review but for now, I'm appalled at the disgusting customer service. For an American-Chinese place, it's actually not bad, even in comparison to large chains like Panda Express. I like to order delivery from here on my lazy/fat days or a busy day that didn't allow me to eat until very late. I like that: - they open late (until 11:30pm weeknights) - fantastic value (super cheap for tons of food) - consistent in taste, quality, and delivery - food tastes fresh, made-to-order and not as sodium-laden (versus typical pre-made fake Chinese that sits under the heat lamp for hours). Don't get me wrong, I still slide into a blissful food coma every time I eat from this place. But for a mere $5, I can get 2-3 meal's worth of General Tsao's chicken (and that's the "small" size). If you don't want fried, their Kung Pao chicken is pretty good. On my noodle days, I like Singapore mei fun. The dumplings are also a steal at $5 for 10. Wow, I just realized I order from this place a lot more often than I thought I do. The food definitely deserves 4 stars- I remove one star because of a bad delivery experience- I phoned in my order and gave my address. 30 minutes later, food had not arrived, so I called again. I was told the delivery person is on the way and should be there in a few minutes, so I waited. Nearly an hour later, I was still waiting for my food. The delivery person finally arrived after 55 minutes of waiting. Thankfully, the food was still warm and delicious. If the service was as good as the food is, this would be an easy four star rating. When the person who was delivering got to my door, he started calling and harassing me to come down to get the food. This used to be my go to place for cheap tasty greasy Chinese food. Something has clearly gone wrong the last month or two. I ordered from here last week and the food tasted like chemicals. Completely inedible. My Bf and I made peanut butter sandwiches and went to bed annoyed at the situation and with queasy stomachs. The chicken and broccoli which o have ordered easily 50 times in the past from this place was slimy. They gave TEENY rice portions with two large entree orders (not lunch portions or combo plates) and the piece de resistance a soda which expired 6 months ago. The soda tasted so bad I spit it out after one sip and hunted around the can for the expiration date. Now you may be thinking ... big deal you are not likely to get sick from an old soda. Call seamless, get your dollar back, go to the bodega and get a coke. I'll say this... there is no way a busy, cheap, decent quality Chinese food restaurant in Manhattan is buying "fresh" soda and not selling it for 6 months bast expiration. This means they are buying expired or near expired product to save a few bucks and then hoping their customers won't know. If they are doing it with soda are they doing it with the Bleach/sauce they doused my boneless spare ribs with? With my slimy chicken? I don't know but it doesn't give me confidence in the food.
