On the whole, have enjoyed elsewhere for years handpulled noodles from Central Asia, so The Handpulled Noodle perked my interest... although had earlier made it up to this Harlem location. Decided to try an order for delivery via GrubHub and compare dishes with two separate noodles, based on what they recommended for each best for delivery: Beijing Bolo with a fermented black bean ground pork sauce, a.k.a. Zhejiang Mien, including Size #2 pressed noodles thick like udon, scallions, and cilantro, plus Cold Sesame Noodles utilizing handpulled lagman. Both dishes I ordered medium spicy. The Beijing Bolo came in a bowl, while I needed to plate the Cold Sesame dish. Both were flavorful with tender noodles. Next time, more likely to go in person over delivery, and explore other dishes on their menu. It's a great option particularly for this neighborhood! I happened to be in Harlem and noticed handpulled noodles, so of course I had to try it. The reviews were solid. I placed a pickup order, but when I got there my food hadn't even been started yet, so I ended up standing around for another 10-15 minutes. That part was annoying. I started with the cumin dry rub wings. They were just okay. Very tangy, not very spicy, and honestly a bit over cooked/fried. I'd skip the wings. The steamed chicken and shiitake dumplings were the highlight. They had peas inside and were actually really good. Super flavorful and easily my favorite item. I also ordered the cumin soup with hand-pulled noodles, medium spicy. Everyone warned that spiciness was intense, so I played it safe, but medium ended up being pretty underwhelming for me. So initially, I really love this location and love the fact that we had a handful noodles in the neighborhood and I went to visit again after having a great first time visit and they got my order completely wrong and we're frustrated when I asked them to correct it prices also increased randomly so after waiting another 20 minutes, I grabbed my order went home to eat it and found Hair inside of my food. I decided to visit this location and I have to say I prefer this one because the customer service was outstanding. They were just so friendly and helpful with helping me decide on what I wanted and what level of spice. I mean it was just the way I was greeted and treated. I have to say I enjoyed my noodles a bit more this time because of the flavors and I actually got to pull my noodles this time, but I still think they need to find away to make it better for those who are taking it home. I've only had delivery but the food has always been good. I haven't gotten the spiciest level but the next level down is SPICY. Do not play with that option and I can't imagine the next one up lol. I ordered the cumin stir fry which starts at $14 but I had it with lamb and the handle pulled noodles so it cost $18.50. They were good, not my favorite though. Some of the lamb was a bit chewy. I also ordered the hot and tangy pork & chive dumplings ($10.50 for 6). I love how they came in the broth/soup but it at the same time it took away from the flavor of the dumplings. If you order high or crazy high there's a note that states "no refunds" Took at least 10 minutes for Mr to get my order to go. This place might just be my new obsession--I ordered two days in a row! And yes, I've got the receipts to prove it. Both times, the food hit the spot. Feeling under the weather from traveling, I went with the Herbal Beef Soup with their special hand-pulled lamein noodles and the hot and tangy chicken and shiitake dumplings (you do have to pay extra for those noodles). The flavors were so rich and comforting, I was genuinely sad when I finished. You can tell everything is made fresh--the noodles and dumplings were next-level. The lamein noodles were thick and flat, which made slurping a bit tricky, so the next day I ordered the same soup but switched to lo mein noodles. They were thinner and perfect for slurping. We ordered the noodles traditional style with lamb, it was seasoned well and the regular noodles were firm not chewy and pretty tasty, Thai sweet chili chicken wings were cooked too hard and dry , the sauce dribbled on them didn't make em any better, it didn't stick to the wings enough for me (thumbs down) and we got the broccoli with garlic sauce. My friend and I came for a weekday lunch. We were the only ones eating here; this spot mostly has a strong delivery and takeout game, it seems. The eat-in spot is fairly bare and counter seating. The menu is short but well curated. You can order on a tablet, which shows pictures and lets you choose spiciness levels. (The hottest level is described as incredibly strong.) We split two dishes with medium spice, which I'd say was still quite strong. Great noodle texture, though noodles were so long that it was hard to eat/cut with the utensils we had. I can tell right away the noodles definitely hit the spot if you need some noodles, some heat, and a tinge of home! The pricing is really fair for the quantity and the quality speaks for itself. Know that its not the usual long crimped chinese dumplings. These are pretty juicy with a robust flavorful filling and chewy dumpling wrapper. Basically don't need the sauce. The nice man also offered spicy sauce. 1/5 - pork bao (buns) - definitely not a personal favorite. The filling was insanely salty (and I love salty foods...) and also sweet. Not my preference. 3.5/5 - peach tea, $3 a cup. Very affordable. Tastes a bit watery but can't complain at this price point. Refreshing. They have plastic cups to self serve water. Hubs had the cumin stir fry with beef and size#2 fresh pressed udon like noodles. Son had the curry stir fry with lagman handpulled lamien. We all had medium spice. (Funny how no refunds are for any spicier) Everything was delicious. My portion size was great, but we were disappointed by the sizes of the stir fry dishes. They came in just one chinese white takeout container. This portion seemed small and for my husband it wasn't filled to the top which made is seem smaller. So not sure about the stir fry value. After driving around for 15 minutes we find parking and went in at 10:07. Inside we saw a handwritten sign that said dine in closes at 10. We were fine with that, but before we could order the guy working the front told us the kitchen closed soon. When i asked about it closing at 11, the guy said it did, but only for delivery. Not sure how delivery is different than take out, but whatever. I approached the screen to order when the guy, once again, intervened and essentially told me that i couldn't order from there either and my options were very limited. Unless i wanted delivery. Again - difference? At that point i was simply mad. If you close at 11, then you should honor that when someone walks in an hour before close. The noodles here are so amazingly full of flavors , I usually get the traditional stir fry traditional lo mein style noodles with a mango peach green tea as a beverage the noodles I get are medium level hot-spicy you can change the level to your preference. The service is very quick and easy every time I go I pay through the tablet that's there on the wall pay and I get my receipt and wait for my number to be called or they bring it to you. The food is VERY good. Flavorful. Good menu. The portions are GENEROUS. I'm a big eater and my entree was definitely sharable. I ate the noodles with lamb at 1:00pm and it's 5:30pm and I'm still full! I also had bok choy in garlic sauce. Very good. Note there is only seats for 10 at a counter, and there is no bathroom.
