I ordered from Yang Garden for the first time tonight, based on a couple of recommendations in a local online discussion board about neighborhood Chinese takeout. I'm left wondering what the folks who recommended the food were raving about. Have they ever had OTHER Chinese food? This food was passable at best. I will say that the woman who took my order over the phone was very nice. The guy who delivered our food, also very nice. (I'm sorry, I accidentally kept your pen. But I did give you a big tip.) According to my wife, the Szechuan Beef was pretty good, but the Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce was bland. Like another reviewer mentioned, she said the chicken looked weird and had an odd texture. Like it was reconstituted. My Spicy Bean Curd w. Hot Garlic Sauce was cooked well (nice texture), but where was the spice and the "hot garlic"? Cold Sesame Noodles--better than some but only after I added sriracha and soy sauce. Probably wouldn't order again. The complementary steamed veggie dumplings (thank you) were also bland and very doughy. I actually put them in a pan with a little oil to crisp up the bottom and add some texture. The String Beans with Spicy Sauce was the one thing that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The price was decent--a bit cheaper than some other local spots but I can't say that Yang Garden will be in our "take out folder" for future orders. We stayed at an Air BNB right around the corner to this Washington Heights hole in the wall type Chinese restaurant. I decided to visit it and was pleasantly surprised. I got their lunch order of pork lo mein and it was really really good. I'm glad I chose it and I would definitely eat there again. read more

It is as good as it gets in Washington Heights. You just have to know what to order. Some items are really decent: fried shrimp dumplings, spring rolls, the fried chicken, yang chow fried rice. Delivery is lightning fast and courteous. You can ask for free bottles of water instead of soda. I tried all the Chinese restaurants in this neighborhood. After months of ordering from the same place, we decided to try a different Chinese place. We did a thorough Yelp search of nearby Chinese establishments, particularly interested in what other Yelpers had to say about fried dumplings. We thought we found the spot with Yang Garden, and except for the egg rolls the food was pretty terrible. We ordered 1. fried pork dumplings -- horrid! They were suuuuuper doughy and the pork was extremely unpleasant texture and taste-wise 2. beef with mixed vegetables -- barely edible. The beef itself was slimy and chewy. 3. sesame chicken -- wouldn't recommend. It was fine, but not great. Overall, extremely disappointing culinary experience. I have a very cheap friend who does NOT waste food, and he found himself unwilling to eat the dumplings or the beef. I would recommend going to Fu Sing on 176th -- the shrimp egg rolls, chicken and broccoli, and shrimp with mixed vegetables are delicious. read more

Unquestionably the staff is nice and you get a lot of food for your money. However, our first order will likely also be our last. The sesame noodles had a very gooey consistency but amazingly almost no flavor. The spicy garlic eggplant was decent in flavor, but a bit monotonous - not broken up with a single vegetable or texture point so the whole dish is rather soft and gooey. Lastly and worst was the sesame bean curd - the tofu was very spongy and just completely swimming in a sesame sauce so sweet that it tasted like eating a jelly donut. In the large order there were just 3 small pieces of broccoli hiding in the bottom. It's edible if you're in a pinch, but from our limited experience I would say that you could do a lot better for cheap Chinese food. read more

Great neighborhood Chinese. Delivery and take out is always good. Super fast delivery, arrives HOT, and fresh made and tastes it.

Quick. Cheap. Quality is highly questionable. If desperate, maybe? Chicken looks weird always. Beef is somewhat suspect too. Shrimp is ok, but again I always wonder if it's fresh. During rush hour they tend to make mistakes, and it can be annoying. The best thing they have going for them is speed. if you're careful in ordering, the food is fine and a bargain. The house special Mai Fun is my favorite. the "home made iced tea" excellent, the dumplings fine, the vegetable soup fine. if you're a regular, the food will always be fresh.
