Didn't arrive hungry but was refocusing pleased with menu options. Opted for the avacado toast which was outstanding. If looking for a place with good wine selection then look no further. Highly recommend! read more

Great dinner spot in East Memphis! Recently went here with my wife and a coworker visiting Memphis for the first time for dinner. This is a fine dining spot with a classy atmosphere. Unfortunately we never got past the service. I mean no service. Literally. We sat for 10 minutes and then approached the host. The hose gave us an attitude. Seemed like he did not want us there. The chef / owner was watching the whole thing and did nothing. So strange. Eventually we just got up and left ... No server, not even a glass of water. It was clear River Oaks did not want our business. We eat out quite a bit and will spend our restaurant dollars elsewhere. read more

This is a very classy restaurant in Germantown! It is a great place to dine for any occasion. The only reason that I give this restaurant 4 stars as opposed to 5 stars is because I don't like being greeted at the door with, "Can I help you?" This type of greeting from the hostess makes me feel like I am not welcome or that the hostess believes that I am lost and just happened to stumble upon a nice restaurant. I would gather that most people that dine at this restaurant are very intentional about this restaurant selection. For this reason, a warm welcome to River Oaks Restaurant would have been a much better greeting and most appropriate! To be fair, everything else about the restaurant, save the greeting was awesome! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and made great recommendations. I highly recommend the Herb Crusted Lamb Rack! read more

In the same lot as my hotel so I met some people after work for a drink. They have a great Bourbon selection and I thought their Bourbon cocktails were delicious. After a while I decided to get something to eat and went with the burger, which was absolutely delicious. We just sat at the bar for drinks and something quick to eat but I would love to go back and have a sit down meal. read more

The food was delicious and beautifully plated. Our server was so friendly, patient and helpful. Two of my party enjoyed the lamb, one had the filet mignon and another had the amazing scallops and angel hair. Everyone loved what they ordered. Not sure how this place gets 4 stars, it's definitely setup right and service was decent. The food was bland at best the salad to start I wouldn't pay a dollar for, but they charge you $8, steak frites was $30 steak was bland and super tough. Mushroom sauce was super bland, I honestly have had better steaks at Logan's. I have a hard time spending $30 on a NY strip when they are gonna serve a choice, or select, quality steak. Ate here last night. Nice patio. Service was not good but I am trying to give grace as the food industry is short on staff right now. The food was really bland and not worth the price. I liked the food...I just wish their ambience was better. The interior reminded me of a Houston's or chain steakhouse. And it is such a stark contrast to the precious exterior! Walking in, you see that cute white building and expect something completely different on the inside. Not boring artwork like the type you buy at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Anyways, the food? Fantastic. My crispy lemon chicken was perfection and the cheese plate rivals any in town (OK, maybe not Bari's...), especially that 3 cream brie...swoon!! I also enjoyed their wine selection. Normally when I try a few different merlots I only like one (if any)...but this time I loved every merlot on the menu! Very impressed. It was a lovely evening and I'm glad I finally got to eat here. Apparently people come here to celebrate because not only was I with a birthday girl, but four other tables were celebrating the very same thing. It is on the pricey side...$13 for a salad, $27 for an entree, $60 for a bottle of wine, and then a $12 dessert...but I think it is pretty fair. Other restaurants charge the same and are not nearly as good. So if you are celebrating something special, this might just be your spot! read more

A little more upscale -- it would be a very nice place for a date or a celebratory dinner. You'll find a good variety on the menu, including pork, steak, fish, and fowl. A good selection of soups that rotate during the week. Prices are a bit higher -- around $13 for a crab cake appetizer. Based on the positive reviews posted by my fellow Yelper's, my wife and I decided to give the River Oaks Restaurant a go. Bravo folks...what a nice restaurant. From the comfortable atmosphere, to the great food and service, I was pleasantly surprised. The dinner menu offered a nice selection of entrees. I was also impressed with their wine selection. I had the Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc, which I thought was great and went very well with the cheese plate we ordered. For our entree, we both had the roasted halibut which was cooked just right and presented artfully well. We'll certainly be back soon! read more

Though we enjoyed our meal and the service was good. We did feel as though the prices were high for the various dishes. Value was not great. An annoying thing that some restaurants do including this one is add the liquor tax. This is a bit deceptive and made the wine by the glass prices very high. Ordered take out and found this place pretty delightful. - Corn crab soup: they have different soups everyday (this was their Monday soup)-- comes with bacon too-- not a huge fan of creamy soups but this one I did enjoy....the small crunch from the corn paired with the softness of the potato and of course the lumps of crab was a prefect start to my meal - Salmon with cauliflower risotto: wanted to get steak but read the Yelp reviews so had to definitely get this to try-- salmon was a tad over cooked but nothing that crazy where I wouldn't come back again....the cauliflower risotto was good but I did wish there were more lumps of cauliflower to balance out the mushiness of the risotto The food was good. Staying at the hotel next door, walked over and they told me the kitchen was closed at 8:30 on a Wednesday. Hog and Hominy was amazing!

Fantastic steak. Ordered the filet mignon. It was an absolutely perfect medium rare. The sauce was great, but not overpowering. The sweet potatoes that came with it were a bit bland, but I came for the steak, not the sweet potato. Reasonable prices, very friendly staff. Food came out quickly and was perfect. read more

I don't normally order seafood in land locked states, but I would eat seafood here again. The restaurant is in a hotel parking lot, and was very clear that it has a ton of travelers as regulars. Even though it was a Tuesday night, it was busy! That is always a good sign. They have seats by the bar, tables by the bar, and larger tables for additional parties. The service was great. I had ordered the scallops which was rather salty but still tasty. Also, I ordered the volcano like chocolate cake with berries which was delicious. The caesar salad looked really good. The reason this review gets 2 Stars is because of Miles our server, who was fantastic otherwise I would have given it one star. We had the lamb chops-temperature was good however they lacked flavor! The Steak lacked flavor! The most flavorful item we ordered was the Pomme Frites-Seriously! To top to all off, we were charged $2.oo for an ice sphere in our cocktail. The salmon with cauliflower risotto out of this world and the key lime pie made me think I was at one of my favorite restaurants in Key Largo! Here's what sets most restaurants apart from the rest, the service. It started from the second I walked in when the hostess found me a table that they really didn't have open and Irene, very attentive and was on the money even though she started getting busy. Had dinner reservations once seated waiting on guest to arrive, waiter tells us about the perfection of the rack of lamb. We waiting got drinks and appetizers. Ready to order the rack of lamb only to be told they didn't have them. Devastated right, so she suggested the sea scallops with the angel hair pasta only to be told that they only had 1 plate of this dish. We had a party of 5 so everyone had something different. Great food and ambiance. We started off with the crab cakes and they were very good. The citrus dressing on the salad next to the crab cakes paired very well with the avocado and mango on the salad. The grouper was very good. The lemon flavoring was just the right amount where it did not over power the vegetables, potatoes, and fish in the dish and you could actually taste your food very well. My brother had the short ribs and said they were very tender and moist. My wife loved the lamb chops and said they did not taste wild at all. Definitely will be back. read more

River Oaks is considered to be a very popular local restaurant with a French flare. Always crowded and loud but manageable. Food is generally exceptional and on this Wednesday night I decided to try the two specials Corn Chowder soup and Fried Chicken. Started with a couple of appetizers that were delicious. A cheese pastry and cornbread muffin followed by a watermelon tomato cucumber salad with crunchy noodles and an olive oil based dressing making it superb. The ladies order as their entree the crispy lemon chicken pail lard and loved it. As I stated before I ordered the corn chowder but they dropped the ball and never brought it which was disappointing. However the much anticipated fried chicken that I heard people rave about with old fashioned mashed potatoes and green beans had arrived so I was content until I bit into the chicken. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Not only did it not have much flavor it was room temperature as well. Mashed potatoes wasn't anything special but green beans were delicious. The other gentleman had their burger which was delicious but the bun loses out because it can't contain the burger. Ends up just falling apart which made the burger hard to manage without getting very messy. I will go back but not for the Fried Chicken which didn't even rate in my top 10 just in Memphis. read more

This was my first time here. I don't think I would go back, by my own choice. Our server was friendly. We both ordered an entree and they were delivered to our table one hour and ten minutes later. The server apologized and offered us dessert, but it would have taken a long time and I don't usually eat dessert. Not the servers fault, but still. I got the halibut and I don't usually add salt, but I think they forgot to salt it at all, while cooking. It was very bland.
