I made the reservations the previous night and highly recommended doing so. We sat at the bar and it had a lively atmosphere but we could still easily hold a conversation. We went for the first time last night and it was their Tuesday night Bottle + Board special. Order any Bottle on the menu and receive a free Chef's Special Charcuterie Board! We arrived early and were able to be seated without a reservation. They said they normally fill up quickly on nights they have specials, though there were a few open tables where we were seated upstairs. We ordered a Bottle of Cava to start, and then went on to try the Shrimp Nachos and their "famed" Beef Wellington Popovers. We finished with the Dessert Board which was delicious and at the recommendation of our server I tried their seasonal cocktail Morning Dew, but replacing the gin with bourbon. First and foremost, I want to give a shout out to the staff from the server, the bartender, to the chef. They were all great both times we've gone so far. They stay busy and fill up fast so make sure to make a reservation. They have my favorite wine ever, Tintero Moscato, that I literally have only ever seen at 2 different restaurants, one being Ripple and one being at a vegan restaurant in NC. So that's what initially brought me to Ripple and then I found out about their food menu. We went for my birthday and the server bought the glass of wine for me which was so unexpected and sweet of her! We got the potatoes which were creamy and cooked to perfection and seasoned so well. We also got the shroom pasta without the cream since we are vegans and the chef personalized it for us with his own seasoning suggestion with lemon and garlic. It was one of the tastiest meals and we were so appreciative that he was able to customize it for us since technically that isn't the original menu option. Dumbed down service.... That was what one of the owners said they offered when I asked why a wine bar does not pour the wine ordered by the bottle or half bottle. Ok, call me old school, but I like to have my wine poured when I pay for a bottle or half bottle of wine. But now a days maybe I expect too much. If I go to a 4 star restaurant they still hope for the same percentage of tip. Your door dash still expects the same amount of a tip just not to play with your food so I'm told. But let's get serious. Tonight I asked one of the helpers to please pour my wine and she did nicely. But then a server rushed out to finish pouring off my wine in a huff and rush off with attitude. So, the service as a whole is 4 star and could so easily be 5 star. But that huff made it 3 star. But the rest of the help carries it so far past that. And because of attitude like that and a comment like dumbed down service I just can't give it 5 stars. So 4 stars it is. I found this place with a referral and after the first time there I was hooked and started going 2-3 nights a week. I was curious why they did not pour your wine but it took me a couple of times to ask. But after that attitude I got tonight, I have to walk away and not go back. Great place with lots of drink options and amazing bites to eat. A reservation is recommended as this place is usually pretty busy. This is my fourth time here and I can honestly say the service is subpar. Each time that my friends and I have visited we were barely checked on and almost felt a bit unwelcome. During this particular visit no one even offered to refresh our water or take a beverage order so we did not have the opportunity to try any of the cocktails on the menu. However, the tables beside us were promptly serviced. The proprietor is ever present and seemingly makes it a point to make his rounds to every table greeting and getting to know his patrons--except ours. The owner/manager will walk past our table several times, look us directly in our eyes, and keep walking. Not even a "hello". Once we finished our food and were ready to leave I had to flag down the manager during one of his many visits to the other tables near us to receive our bill. During that time I mentioned how we felt about the service and he shrugged it off. I feel that it is important to note that my friends and I are African American. I unfortunately will not be back. Ripple has all the appearance of a great wine bar without the substance. The wine list, while extensive, is basic and heavy on recognizable top shelf grocery store brands, well known producers, or the most popular international grape varieties. This may be one reason why service interaction, on the night my wife and I visited, was minimal. With a basic wine list, there's no need for educated servers to explain unfamiliar wines to guests - just pour, rinse, and repeat. The menu, on the other hand, is good on paper, but, on average, light on execution. A dish of "caramelized" carrots stood out for being mailed in - or rather passed through a pizza oven for the palest degree of color - after being lightly steamed. Shrimp and grits were passable, but then drenched in an "Alabama white BBQ" sauce that was definitely 99 percent mayo and a few drops of hot sauce. It's hard to fault the kitchen, though, since it's the size of a walk-in closet. Menu items that can be made in advance on the order of catered apps are probably the way to go here: a solid crab cake is an example of what they can put out in spite of their size and equipment limitations. Ripple's interior decoration is beautiful and their cocktails can be creative and generous in size. A "Devil's Margarita," apparently inspired by a New York Sour, given the beautiful Malbec float on top, was tasty, Instagrammable, and large enough in punching power for two, judging by how tipsy my wife was 20 minutes later. If it were easy to pop in while waiting for a reservation elsewhere, we would probably return. However, Ripple appears to usually be quite busy and reservations are recommended - in fact needed during dinner hours. In that respect, they hardly need our patronage. Although we are living in a near golden age of restaurant possibilities here in the Cincinnati and NKY area, it's still true that a bare minimum of real substance is all that is needed to succeed if you get the appearance of substance right. read more

The exposed beams add dimension and visual appeal, and the second floor and patio makes for ample space for social distancing. The staff wore masks and the bar area had plastic partitions to separate guests. We ordered the beef tartare and it was so flavorful and a perfect introduction to tartare for someone who has never tried it before (me). The Sicilian flatbread was also to die for with Italian sausage and the hot honey. So good! Jade was our bartender and she was extraordinary in her knowledge of the wine menu and what to recommend to us. I ordered a cocktail that she had been perfecting with rum and dried pineapple.
