My friends and I came in for the first time on a busy Saturday evening. No wait for a table, servers we're super friendly and attentive. We are in the dining room area away from the bar, which was quieter of course. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer which were crispy, beer battered and delicious. They came with 3 sauce options which was really nice as well. My friends ordered burgers which were very tasty and worth waiting for. I had the Carne asada fajita chopped salad and it was fantastic! We always come to the Ripon Roadhouse when in the area. There isn't a restaurant in Modesto that compares with their food and service, so it's worth the few extra miles to go to Ripon. Everything is always excellent. Their bar is well-stocked and has made all of our special request drinks. Went to an event on the patio. It was great!! There was a band & a buffet dinner. They also served a buffet of desserts. Both were very good. The drink wait staff followed up on your drinks as soon as they saw them getting low. They quickly cleared your empty plates. The only downside was more umbrellas were needed for a 90 degree day. There were four of us for lunch.. visiting after not seeing each other for a very long time and asked to sit in the adjoining room where it was quieter....There's a place at lunchtime and the server was so sweet and accommodated us to a much quieter area... we all had a salad each one different and they each were wonderful!!!! We just moved to the area so we are trying to find our new "local joint" and give back to the local community, well we left there feeling like they should have given back our money!! First impression is that the place has character and seems to have an upbeat vibe. Arrived on a Saturday shortly after 4 and was seated immediately, points for that!! But then began falling into negative points when they told us we had to scan the QR code for their menu. We asked for a printed because of my hubby's eyesight is really bad and can hardly read fine print. Nope, none to give! Wow, you'd think they would print the same one they are telling people to go to on their site for those who need a bit of help. Or at least pay someone to sit and type it out and make some copies. So our adventure began of me reading everything to him since he left his glasses at home. Service was slow which I did not anticipate considering how many people were in there at that time. After reading the reviews I had high hopes for the food, but that quickly bumped the place down into an even bigger negative position for us. Ordered the meatloaf, never have seen one served shaped like it was a ribeye steak. Thick, large portion, well chard around the entire piece, edges and both sides. Tapped the top with the fork and clicked back. Then to top it off, it was just a squirt of ketchup over the top. No gravy or BBQ sauce like most places serve. It was dry and not at all flavorful; ate less than a 1/4 of it. We ordered the swiss garlic mushroom burger. They claim that they use Wagyu beef for their burgers but I could not tell since it was burnt, overcooked and the size of what you get in a slider. No pink at all, just dark brown from the outside in light brown throughout. No flavor at all and I generally do not put ketchup or mustard on my burgers but this one I had to hoping to moisten it up some so I would not choke on it. It was so dry!! I had them add bacon, two rubbery slices were added for $3.25. The fries were cold when they came out and fried together so that they were stuck like a big clump. I am big on first impressions and will give a place a second chance, but if both of us were disappointed in two different meals then I doubt they will get a second chance unless someone invites us out without telling us where we are going until we arrive at the front door. read more

We were searching for a restaurant for a rehearsal dinner. We stopped in Rippon to see what Texas restaurants they had on Main Street, and pulled up to the roadhouse. We walked in and saw the right spacious areas. It looked like it could hold our party 30 to 40 we were able to speak with Anthony the manager who was very helpful, he provided us with a sample menu for a rehearsal dinner happening that very same night. They were able to put down our reservation, gave us the menu to review the different food items, and select five items for the menu. I hate leaving bad reviews especially when the food is always good but the service here has just gone down hill. Today we went in for lunch and after our drinks we waited for our water to return to take our order. He talked to an older couple at their table for over 10 minutes. We ended up leaving and paying cash for our drinks on the table and going next door to the Mexican restaurant with much more prompt service. What bothered me the most was the other waiter looked at us multiple times but never thought to ask to help. Teamwork must not be part of the culture there anymore.
