Linguine with 1/2 lb lobster. Hard pasta, insanely salty. Don't order!

I will admit, I fell into my hotel's scam (Hotel Caravita). We had just arrived at the hotel and were hungry for dinner, and the man at the front desk recommended this restaurant, and I fell for it. From our hotel, it was quite a walk, up and down lots of hills even though he said it was only a 15 minute walk. I should have seen the red flag when he said "I'll set up a reservation for you". But after a long day of traveling I thought it was genuine. We arrive at the restaurant which was pretty empty. I'm sure the people who were dining in were also told to go by their hotels, whatever agreement the restaurant has set up with neighboring hotels. The restaurant itself was huge! But it was a red flag that there were maybe 5 other parties inside. This place is fancy, like appetizer, first course, second course, main course fancy. And expensive. And the waiter wasn't the friendliest and kept pushing for multiple courses. We just wanted one pasta dish each, plain and simple. Got the linguine with 1/2 lb of lobster and the spaghetti with meat sauce. Let me just say I have NEVER IN MY LIFE had pasta cooked THIS HARD and so insanely salty. Salty like the sun. The lobster was also over cooked and rubbery. It was such a shame for our first meal in Rome. The spaghetti with meat sauce was much better, but wasn't great. We couldn't get out of there sooner. It was also the most expensive meal we had in Rome. Avoid like the plague!

    Complimentary (has gluten)

What an amazing experience. I'm gluten free and our waiter was exceptional with keeping that in mind. He brought gluten free bread to start with and made sure the meal (with gluten free pasta) was perfect. And to top it off, he had a surprise for me at dessert - a frozen fruit tray. Perfect! We couldn't ask for a better meal.

We knew we were in trouble when they asked when we came in "what hotel are you from".... and being pushed on the (live!) pricey lobster. Service is very attentive and super friendly, but there is a lot of upselling pressure, so don't fall for it. Nice place (super quiet tho--- makes it awkward if only a few couples) and very good food, but didn't like feeling like we were in a tourist trap. Waiter knew we were budget conscious (well, we pushed hard for the 80Euro/kilo lobster rather than the 130E/k) so at the end we got lemoncello on the house with some cookies. Lots of Americans. It was someone's birthday so they put a flame stick in a cheesecake, turned off the lights and sang. Memorable, and amusing to bystanders. Very good fresh food, expansive menu, some outdoor seating, tucked on a quiet street.. just bring a big pocket $$$ book!

This is by far one of the best Italian restaurant I've ever been. My boyfriend took me to Roma for the first time and this was the first restaurant we went for dinner. recommended by our hotel Life in Roma. The atmosphere was just perfect , my waiter Fabio estupendo , the waiters on point , the fabulous owner who went above and beyond to make sure our night was Vip at all times Mr Daniele & Vincenzo. By the way ... because all was so perfect , we went back the second night . This is a most on your list of restaurant in Roma! Thank you so much for such an outstanding hospitality . Mel & Gianluca

The food was ok. We got a large red snapper cooked for 2. BUT, the waiter/host suggested 2 items without mentioning price and they were WAY out of line with the menu pricing! It was 110 Euros for the red snapper for 2! And a desert of ice cream stuffed in fruits was 30 euros! They seemed to up-sell to make the bill as high as possible. The place was loaded with tourists and no obvious locals. We enjoyed the food but ended up feeling cheated. This was the most expensive meal we had in Rome but not the best.

My husband and I sat on the patio and enjoyed an amazing meal and bottle of wine here last night. Tushar and another gentleman were our waiters and together they made the experience even more enjoyable! Highly recommend!

Received a recommendation from our hotel, Roma Luxus, which was a short walk away. The outside area was full, but our waiter set up a table and chairs for us nonetheless. (Goodfellas style! ) After we picked out our fresh seafood, the chef prepared it two ways for our appetizers and entrees. Our waiter suggested a delicious prosecco and we finishing with tiramisu and cannolli. This was the best meal we had in Italy and on par with our best meals ever. If you are on a budget, this is not the place for you. But if not, sit back and enjoy the fresh seafood, ambiance, service and opulence. Molto Bene!

    Lobster Linguini

Stopped by for lunch as I was staying in the Rome Central area. I looked to Yelp for a recommendation and this got great reviews (albeit only two). I was warm/y greeted as I entered the brightly, but cluttered restaurant. The staff spoke very little English, but I was able to order the lobster linguini and a split of chardonnay. The food came promptly, there was only one large party of 7 people in the restaurant with me. The linguini was slightly salty and the lobster came in pieces of lobster in the shell. I was not willing to work for so little meat, but managed to make it through. I forgot about the "bread charge" where they charge you in lieu of tip. He made out more than okay, but that is alright because I really enjoyed the experience. Everyone was extremely nice and accommodating. I really did not eat enough to judge the food for a recommendation. But if you want to be waited on in style, this is the place. It was an expensive lunch....

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)

I was surprised when I read the Yelp reviews that a few of my awesome Yelpers also dined here too and gave high marks so I was very excited to give them a try. After ordering some tasty vino we went the Focaccia with mozzarella, black truffle with a truffle cream sauce. The Focaccia was lite and a thin crust. Topped with some delicious mozzarella and black truffle made this appetizer and home run choice. After the Focaccia I decided to stay on theme and went with the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e porcini (fettuccine black truffle & porcini mushrooms). Holy cow, a delicious culinary delight. Some other hits of the table included the beef fillet with green pepper sauce & Digione mustard. Astice grigliato, verdure al vapore e maionese alla curcuma (Grilled lobster with steamed veggies in a mayonnaise turmeric sauce and a Lasagna, tartufo nero, funghi, mozzarella e grana (lasagna with blach truffle, mushrooms, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) All were just amazing. Impeccable service and an old world Italian charm decor made this a delightful experience.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
