We were on our way to the Trevi Fountain and hungry so we decided to try this place without any reservations or research. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by a smile from a woman who turned out to be the owner. The restaurant is extremely well decorated. The toilet is very clean as well. This is not usually the case in Italy. The waiter was polite and attentive and the food was delicious! The price was also reasonable! We happened to tell the owner, Emilia, how great everything was and we wound up having a great conversation! We really enjoyed our experience and highly recommend this hidden gem! read more

My carbonara was the perfect level of al dente and the sauce was so rich and creamy! The spaghetti had an equally robust sauce. The pizza was tasty but not on the same level as the spectacular pasta. This place was close to our hotel. When we arrived to our hotel Rome Trevi we needed help with how to pay for parking. The staff was super helpful then so we felt obligated to come back. The restaurant was highly recommended and only a few minutes walk from our hotel. We chose the outdoor dining so never made it inside the restaurant. The seating was only feet away from the road which added a little adventure. It was our first night in Rome so we had to try the Ragu alla Bolognese. It was of course delicious! We're not drinkers so the fancy wines were lost on us. The whole experience was everything we imagined a authentic Italian dinner would be. Although we were surprised they didn't serve bread with the meal, must be an American thing. I read extensively about Italy in preparation for the trip and specifically their tipping culture, so I was surprised when I paid the bill he spun the machine around asking for a tip like a true American. It was the only time during our stay that we were asked for a tip. If you're looking for a nice quiet place with good food at more than reasonable prices give it a try. read more

Soo good we had dinner two nights in a row! It was a holiday weekend and we were so happy they were open. This is one of our friends' favorite restaurant in Rome. Reasonably priced and the "autentica cucina Romana" food was delicious. The pizzas and pasta dishes are very delightful. The pasta is handmade. I have had, however, better tiramisu. Service was friendly and prompt. They laughed when we returned the second night! We appreciated the limoncello since we are frequent guests!! Quite possibly the most underwhelming meal I've had in Italy thus far. Le Lanterne's claim to fame is its proximity to Fontana di Trevi in Rome and because of that, I'm certain it's the reason why it even has traffic to begin with. Like most tourists, my boyfriend and I decided to have a seat and opted for the outdoor seating so that we could enjoy the view. The beer was cheap, about 4€ a glass, and was pretty decent. The food, however, was very disappointing. I had ordered ravioli and only received about 8 pieces on my plate with an interesting pink tomato sauce. The flavor was so-so but I was sad that I wasn't even full from it. The service was next to nonexistent. Aside from our server taking our order (after having waited for a couple minutes) we never saw him until we flagged him down for the check. I get that we're tourists but damn, have a little respect! Located just down the road a bit from the Trevi fountain, this restaurant sits in a shaded alley and has wonderful outdoor seating. We stopped here several times during our 6 six days in Rome. As the first restaurant we dined in upon arrival we were very happy with the food, service and ambiance. The portions were on par with other European cities (I am from North America and my partner was raised in Europe) and I mention this only because many first time international travelers from North America expect much larger portions. The prices were also reasonable. We ate at many touristy restaurants during our exploration of the city and had more than one overpriced subpar meal but we continued to return to Le Lanterne especially in the evening because we knew we would have a good meal in a relaxed surrounding near our hotel. read more

I am a little surprised at some of the reviews of this establishment. I did not end up there from Yelp but rather from a referral from our hotel. I glad I did not look at Yelp because it may have skewed my desire to go. We all had differing salads to start...the waiter warned us they can be shared, which we did. It's hard to find fresh veggies in Rome, and these salads were perfection fresh and fully prepared. I had a pizza with spicy salami and my other dinner mates each had simple homemade pasta dishes. Portion sizes were very very good and the food quality was equal to that. Service was quick even though we were there at prime time. Additionally, this place is not pricey. Also, I like the concept of eating outside...but Rome is full of restaurants with objectively dirty alleys with outside seating. This outside seating was super clean and we were whisked inside when the rain sprinkles started. Inside and out, a very clean establishment. If you want a broad menu for picky eaters, with the tastes of Rome, this place is a good option while you're staying in here. It was for us. read more

Wow was this place fantastic! We showed up without reservations and they sat us quickly. They also endured my awful Italian! We started with prosciutto and melon and what a refreshing way to begin a meal. I got the spaghetti amatriciana while my wife got the spaghetti arrabbiata. Both were huts with us. I made the mistake to go to that restaurant. I know there is a very nice lady at lunch time but the servers at dinner time are extremely rude. I asked bread with my take away order. And asked focaccia bread. They brought nan bread instead, very dry. And they ignored putting into my take away box and served on a plate. And I didn't want the bread. Decided to eat here while vacationing in Rome given the relatively positive reviews and nice outdoor seating. The service was poor to average as the waiters knew nothing about the menu. We shared a gnocchi, which tasted store bought. Instead of light, fluffy pillows we encountered heavy, saggy stones. Looking past the fact that they completely forgot my father's main course, the salmon itself was terrible. I was given two tiny pieces of what looked like the tail that were both grilled to a dry crust. The side of grilled vegetables was nice but could not atone for the abominable piece of fish I was served. For those traveling to Rome do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

Came across this place last summer when I was in Rome with a girl friend. We were trying to find a place to eat and wandered down an alley to this beautiful place. They had wifi and a decent menu (English menu!!!). The waitresses were really nice compared to some of other places we've been to. Tourist friendly - thank god! Tables are kind of close together, so it wasn't the most comfortable place. We got seated outside (this was the end of July) so it was hot, but we didn't mind it. We ordered the Pesto Linguine and the Salmon Ravioli. Soo good!!!! Best pesto pasta I've ever had. It was so simple - no meat or anything else - just pesto and pasta and the pesto was just so fresh! This was quite a nice place despite the incredibly slow service (which isn't rare in Rome at all apparently) The food was relatively inexpensive, and the outdoor dining area is beautiful, hidden on a cobble stone path with vine encumbered archways...truly beautiful and picaresque. I had the lasagna here (€9) and it was honestly incredible. I was craving it after eating nonstop pasta and pizza, and it definitely hit the spot. Their house wine was decent as well, a little woodsy though - but again, inexpensive and good. Buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto were divine! The only downside is the service, which took FOREVER to take our order and give us the check. At least 45 minutes for someone to come check on us, or for a member of the waitstaff to even come outside...we could've totally left and no one would have noticed, but my friend eventually went inside to get someone's attention. My husband and I wandered into this place thanks to its convenient location and free wifi. The service was prompt and it looked like a pretty even mix of tourists and locals. Though the ambiance didn't have a ton to write home about, we enjoyed sitting out on their patio area on a warm evening. And we were definitely appreciative of the free wifi to coordinate our next move in Rome! We were really happy with the Margherita pizza and the penne that we ordered. I think those below who complained about the undercooked pasta may have still been getting used to the fact that it's cooked a lot more al dente for the most part in Italy than in the US. We found this gem of a place while walking back from a day of sightseeing. What a lovely patio and a great meal... We rested or tired legs and enjoyed a late afternoon lunch. We started with a half liter of White wine (very refreshing and only 6 euro). We also ordered a plate of prosciutto and mozzarella di bufala. The ham was so flavorful and not tough at all. And the mozzarella was the best we've had in country. Main dishes: Our son absolutely devoured a large plate of gnocchi con pomodoro. Delicate small gnocchi clearly made from scratch. I had the pasta alla giricia. Beautiful yellow semolina spaghetti noodles (handmade) tossed with bacon, pepper and cheese. The noodles had a proper boil, retaining that little bit of al dente bite. To one of the earlier reviewers, that's how proper pasta is cooked! Some people, geez. My wife went with the Quattro formaggi pizza. It had a light crispy crust and delicious amalgamation of cheesy goodness. Tiramisu plus a couple cappucini and we were on our way. The prices were very fair and the quality was excellent. Close to the Trevi Fountain, but off the tourist route in a lovely alley, we decided to stop for a quick lunch just after 1PM, on a beautiful Wednesday in late September. The advertise free Wi-Fi, but it was either not working or didn't reach the far end of the patio where we sat, unfortunately. Waiter was friendly & spoke minimal English (I heard the other waiter on the patio speaking far better English, though). We ordered a draft beer, an Italian aperitif/cocktail my wife quite enjoyed and a glass of red wine to drink. Wife had an onion soup- cream-based, lovely, mild flavour & a delicious pizza with prosciutto. I had only a spaghetti al vongole that was quite delicious- fresh clams, delicate flavours- just right. Can't quite understand why this restaurant doesn't get a higher rating; it was just fine &, although I might not seek it out specifically on a return trip to Rome, I would definitely eat here again were I in the neighbourhood.
