I'd like to give a review of the food, but they never served any. After hours of walking, we decided this was the best place to try based on the menu. In a seat outside with a open view to the restaurant, three giant groups of tourists had consumed the entire inside. Upon reading the history of this place, I noted the promise by the owners that they would take great care of us. They did not. After twenty minutes I tracked down a server and ordered wine, water and our meals. Ten minutes came and went, then fifteen before they brought a bottle of water, but no wine. Forty minutes then passed while we drank the water and had nothing else. Others seated nearby complained. It took a group of three twenty minutes to get their credit card back after their check cleared. Forty-five minutes in, our water was finished and they decided to set two empty plates down, so we waited and waited and waited... It was getting late, the chance of finding a meal before other restaurants closed was closing in. Enjoy a wonderful lunch, as a starter my husband had the squid salad, I had the French onion soup, for lunch he had the Osobuco a la Romana, I had Veal scallopini and for dessert La torta de Nona. Le Lanterne is 3 stars below Olive Garden with half the food choices at twice the price. I love seafood pasta in general and found myself working to find the small pieces of mussels and shrimp. The food is very basic in flavor and presentation. I suspect my kids would have been happier with my overcooked penne pasta with Ragu sauce. The pictures on Yelp and TripAdvisor don't match my experience last week (April 2019). The dirty conjoined bathroom with a busted toilet seat reminded me of something a restaurant owner (friend) always tells me. . . you can judge the cleanliness of the kitchen by looking at the bathrooms. Too late. Dinner was served. There was an accordion player who accepted my tip of 5 euros and walked off without playing a tune. We had a street vendor selling bracelets who wouldn't leave us alone until I got pissed and said, "you need to leave!" Le Lanterne was our worst restaurant experience over 9 days in Rome. My advice. . . keep walking. There are some nice trattorias down by the Colosseum that are much better. My favorite is a little joint called Trattoria da Valentino on Via Cavour. We dined here 5 times during our 4 day stay in Rome. The service is great compared to other places in Rome and the food is simply amazing. The tiramisu is out of this world. You should also definitely try the lasagna and their pizzas. Give them a try and you won't regret your decision. read more

Good food and great value. This more like a $, not $$. My wife and I are in Italy for our anniversary and we're starving so we stopped here. Didn't know what to expect and probably didn't expect much value since it's close to Trevi Fountain. Food was very good, though, and plentiful. We had starter salad and it was plenty for two. I had tomato and salad on my pizza, which normally I would not get but table next to is had it and it looked good. It was huge. Wife had Gnocci with clams and mushrooms, again, plentiful and delicious. We did not get the table wine, but will next time as it was very inexpensive and the table next to us (from NY) said it was excellent for table wine. read more

Don't waste your time. You can find a MUCH better restaurant to find authentic, good quality Italian food. Originally, my boyfriend and I stopped here because we saw that it wasn't very busy (total of 10 other customers at the restaurant). We ended up waiting 40+ minutes to receive our food after ordering, and people that showed up after us were served sooner. The staff was rude and the food was flavorless. We ended up going somewhere else after eating our dishes to eat something better (Burger King fries are better, believe it or not). The only redeemable factor was that the wine was in pretty decent. Extremely unenjoyable food experience. Their "Pasta with wild mushroom" took 40 minutes in total and at the end, pasta was way undercooked! It was like chewing on rubber-bands...Not to mention the mushroom was quite awful as well. The restaurant was not busy at the time so I seriously wonder if they had forgotten my order...?! Staff was lacking food was lacking. I don't like giving bad reviews but I feel I have to to warn anyone coming to Rome. The food was nothing special I'm sure you could find better food easily. The waiter literally told us to hurry and order drinks when we had been waiting 15 minutes for anyone to approach to our table to greet us. I also have to add the restaurant was pretty empty. For our last meal in Italy, I had a lovely little wine bar scheduled for a visit. From where we were on the Via del Corso, it was kind of far, plus, at the time of night, we knew there'd be a lengthy wait. We decided to settle for something a little closer with no wait. HUGE mistake. Not only was the food at Le Lanterne the worst we had in Italy, it was one of the worst meals I've EVER had. My lasagna was mushy and cold in the middle (meaning it was obviously reheated) and my wife's risotto consisted of goopy, yellow rice. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Great vibe, we sat outside on the patio and had sangria with some salads, pasta and antipasti. We had 3 different salads and they were pretty dull. Just mixed greens with small portions of crab, feta, corn, etc. the spaghetti was amazing, and the grilled vegetables were exactly what was expected. Staff were super friendly and quick to help. Would recommend sharing plates as portion sizes for salads were pretty big. read more

I downloaded yelp to make this review. If you want traditional Italian food, do not go here. Pizza was bland, service was poor, and we waited over 35 minutes to receive our order (people arriving after us were served before us). Wine was pretty good, but not worth the time wasted. One star for the lasagna/prompting me to write my first yelp review ever. Briefly- Servers could care less about anything. Rude. Careless. I get it's a big city so the customer service tends to go down but a little more effort at least, since the food was terrible with the exception of lasagna which would be 3 stars. Bruschetta was basically canned spreads on toast. Fried vegetables also terrible. How can you mess up fried food ? My pasta was undercooked, flavor nothing special. We also had some salad with tuna and olives which came with no dressing whatsoever not even a nice lemon to squeeze on top and the tuna tasted off. If you see the 3.5 star rating and think eh maybe it's more of a 4 than a three- you are wrong please don't waste your time or money read more

This was the best food I had while in Rome. I liked that this place was out of the immediate tourist sites and therefore quaint. There's patio dining as well as indoor seating. I had dinner here one night, and it was so good that I came back my last night in Rome. The house wine is pretty good for the price, but I can only speak about the white wine as that's all I tried. Between the two nights, I tried the grilled mixed seafood (mild flavor, served w a lemon wedge), mixed grilled meats (tender and juicy but not much flavor), the Italian antipasto (delicious but quite a large serving for two). The best dishes were the pasta. I'm not much of a pasta enthusiast, but the pasta here was the best I ever had. The ravioli with the tomato cream sauce was superb. The second night I tried the pesto linguine, also equally delectable. The servings are shareable if you plan to also get a main course. I'm not a big veal fan, but why not try Osso Bucco when in Rome? The meat was so tender, I didn't need a knife to cut it. None of the sauces were too salty, which seemed to be a problem at some other more touristy eateries. The service was just fine, the waiters were kind and came by to check on the table every so often. The waiters also asked in which order I'd like the food to come out. Nice thin crust pizzas and house wine at a reasonable cost. It was a nice lunch break from stomping around the Trevi Fountain area - the "under construction" status of which took the wind out of our sails. Service could be a tad bit more attentive but that was probably my hangryness. read more
