Lasagna

I enjoyed lunch at this establishment. I had the lasagna, I expected more from it. However, since it was my first food experience in Rome I'll give it a 3 star. If you do visit this location, sit outside because it is scorching hot on the inside and the fans do little to nothing to assist.

Street side seating, convenient and good..

The restaurant was around the block from our hotel and we arrived after along day of touring the city. We had six in our party and so they asked a couple to move to the end of a long table (several tables pulled together) outside. So we sat with one couple on each end of our table. A little awkward but it appeared to be the norm so we went with it. The menu has plenty to offer for everyone. Wine choices are about like you would have when going to an average pizza joint but all Italian. Complimentary bruschetta is brought out for everyone. My favorite item was the truffled pasta - delicious. Definitely try this place out.

We went here just because it was a local area. Even though Yelp has it at less than 4 stars we didn't care since we went by word of mouth. They served some of the best pasta I ever had. I got the pasta with alfredo sauce. Guess what? I HATE alfredo, so you know this place had to be good for me to want to eat it. We even ended up getting a carafe of white wine and coffee.

My experience at this restaurant was one of the greatest dining experiences I've ever had. It has been a month since I left Rome and still my mouth waters when I think of the delicious food here. I tried multiple dishes at this restaurant. Because I went in a matter of two days, not once or twice, but three times. This was hands down the best pizza I have ever had. The service was absolutely incredible. The wait staff here were friendly from the start... And welcomed me with open arms every time I returned. I regret not discovering this gem earlier on in my stay in Rome but this will be one of the main reasons I return. On my last night in Roma I was fortunate to share it with some of the new friends I made from this wonderful restaurant. If you're reading this, miss you all and already planning my next trip back.

Honestly one of the best places we ate at in Rome. It looks tiny and old school but the food really is worth it and you can't beat the prices. I had a seafood linguini that I fell in love with and the server was attentive and nice (something that doesn't happen often in Italy). I was impressed - definitely check this place out!

Roast pork, cooked until it couldn't remember it's past life.

So, I'll tell you now so you don't have to read too far if you get bored easily. The €2 house wine is the best thing about this place. I understand waiting for fresh food but I waited about 40 minutes for absolute garbage. I just drank more and more of the wine cause the drunker you are, the better the food tastes. I got the roast pork and the spaghetti carbonara. The roast pork was cooked to death, brought back to life, and baked to death again to make sure they killed it the first time. The pig didn't die to be disrespected like this. It was so over cooked I couldn't believe it but I wasn't gonna walk anywhere after walking around all day so I forced it down. The spaghetti carbonara was curdled and lukewarm. CURDLED! Fam it was curdled. I thought Italy was supposed to have the best pasta but Olive Garden does better than this. I feel like they get away with crap food because they are next to a hostel full of drunk youngins but not today...eat somewhere else for your own sake.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Great first meal in Rome!…read more I loved my artichoke pasta dish with bacon, it was a daily special. The amaretto dessert was delicious! Carbonara was super al dente. Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)

I was surprised when I read the Yelp reviews that a few of my awesome Yelpers also dined here too and gave high marks so I was very excited to give them a try. After ordering some tasty vino we went the Focaccia with mozzarella, black truffle with a truffle cream sauce. The Focaccia was lite and a thin crust. Topped with some delicious mozzarella and black truffle made this appetizer and home run choice. After the Focaccia I decided to stay on theme and went with the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e porcini (fettuccine black truffle & porcini mushrooms). Holy cow, a delicious culinary delight. Some other hits of the table included the beef fillet with green pepper sauce & Digione mustard. Astice grigliato, verdure al vapore e maionese alla curcuma (Grilled lobster with steamed veggies in a mayonnaise turmeric sauce and a Lasagna, tartufo nero, funghi, mozzarella e grana (lasagna with blach truffle, mushrooms, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) All were just amazing. Impeccable service and an old world Italian charm decor made this a delightful experience.

You see mostly locals here, and they're regulars. The restaurant is spacious but also intimate and the men serving were efficient & welcoming. Not super friendly but can tell they're very hard workers. It was located near our air bnb & worth the walk everyday. We actually looked forward to it after doing our daily activities. The workers eventually recognized us and treated us like friends. Hence the name of the restaurant- Buoni Amici = Good Friends. Plenty of wine choices and great food to go with it. The penne was missing something but good thing we ordered it with the steak as an extra dish. Everything else we had was amazing, we had it everyday & tried with one other new dish each day. No complaints! We would even get there nearly closing time, & never felt like we weren't welcomed. Almost asked them if they needed help wiping each glass & cleaning up lol There was a dessert that we seen others eating during lunch with strawberries that we were going to come back for at dinner but sadly was all gone, so I imagine it's a hit. We enjoyed the sorbetto al limone every time though! I could go on & on about this place but I'll leave the rest to your imagination. Highly recommend We'll be back on our next trip to Rome! Grazie Mille

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
