We opted for a new system. They had it installed and house cooled down when we returned on Saturday! We were also wanting to move our thermostat but wanted to talk through that. They came back on Monday to take care of moving the thermostat.

Several years ago, Airco installed a 3-ton variable-speed system in a house that had previously had a 2-ton unit (and a history of trouble keeping cool). After about a year of operation, our tenants reported mold in the ducts, high humidity, and a short-cycling unit. Our investigation found that the installer, Stuart, had never pulled a permit for the work. I want to be candid: it took a negative Yelp review to get Airco's attention. Jeremy reached out, recommended we upsize the ductwork, offered a very fair price, and agreed to close out the permits. I'm slow to trust, so I got second and third opinions from other HVAC companies -- they confirmed the system size was correct for the house, and that the ductwork should have been upsized at the original install. My own Manual J calculations agreed with Jeremy's. Notably, Jeremy was the only installer I could find who was actually willing to run a Manual J. He also followed through on pulling permits and getting the city inspection scheduled. Airco worked to schedule the new duct installation during the one week we'd be in town -- during peak season, no less -- and their crew moved fast and stayed professional, which I appreciated given how brutal a Texas attic is this time of year. A few days in, the system is no longer short-cycling, and indoor humidity has dropped to about 63%. Still a touch higher than ideal, but we think we can chase the rest of it down -- possibly window seals, possibly fan settings or duct leakage. I was impressed enough that I also used Airco for a plumbing call this week.

It's his business and you always interact with him directly. He gives you his cell phone number and patiently answers all your questions as needed. He does the scheduling and he's the one that comes to do the work. When working (I had a cooling check done), he made sure to explain everything about my particular cooling system to me and took the time to answer any questions I had. It's obvious that he just wants to do good work and leave the customer happy. He's not looking to make more money than he's reasonably owed. When looking for an AC tech to check my cooling system, I briefly chatted with a bigger company who gave me inflated pricing for simple maintenance (they were also oddly ambiguous about contingency pricing). Philip was straightforward when we first spoke and gave me all his pricing, including any potential add-ons (super dirty coils, etc.). It was an easy choice. His prices are very reasonable. It was $80 for a cooling check (incl. a light condenser coil cleaning) and $60-$70 for a heating check (in April of this year, obviously prices are subject to change based on economical considerations). The only problem is he's busy! Since it's just him, he's booked way out in advance for maintenance. He does always leave openings for emergencies so don't hesitate to reach out to him. But he still unplugged the AC power and checked the capacitor which is also good. He put the panel back and told me the compressor is bad and the rotor is locked, so he suggested to change the whole system with an estimation of over $9400. Then he put the AC power key back upside down which is off. After he left, we found the power key was not placed correctly and put the disconnect key back to on, the AC started to work normaly... The temperature of the day was 110 degree.
