We used Rich Nelson's moving crew to help move us from Lake Forest to Encinitas and had a great experience overall. The crew was amazing - helpful, communicative, inquisitive and friendly. The crew leader David (and there rest of the crew: Jeremy, Liu and Alfonso) all introduced themselves properly when they got the house, had big smiles and never complained about a single thing, even when we had to move things from room to room after delivery. Most importantly: nothing was broken, nothing was lost and 95% of our stuff was delivered to the exact room it was supposed to be in - including outdoor patio items. The move took a little longer than expected because we had so many plants which is no fault of the crew. Personally if I was to look again I'd take the estimate and over-inflate it a bit just so you don't get surprised at the end of delivery. I can't say enough good things about this crew, seriously. I'd hang out and have a beer with these guys because they were so friendly and helpful. We hired Rich Nelson Moving Service for a local move, including bringing some furniture out of storage. We had 3 men handling the move. They all worked quickly and efficiently, moving as much as possible in each trip up the elevator. They were careful with all our goods and furniture, and helped to rearrange our furniture when we decided we needed to change. We had an excellent experience with Rich Nelson Moving Services for a move from Orange County to San Diego County. We started with a FaceTime call with Rich to show the amount of furniture and boxes to be moved. Within 24 hours Rich sent us an estimate with several options which he discussed in detail. We opted for a flat rate and larger trucks. I read several reviews on other moving companies where the movers moved slowly, took long breaks, etc. This did not happen with the Nelson Moving Services. We had 6 people and 2 trucks. The movers were all very energetic and hard workers. They were friendly, polite and had comradery. All our furniture and boxes arrived safely - nothing was damaged or missing. They placed everything in the right rooms and even helped figure out furniture placement. Moving is a pain and if you want to make the best of it then hire Rich Nelson moving to do it for you. I called a few different movers and they all were in a few dollars of each other in price. My neighbor who works for an escrow company recommended Rich Nelson (as he deals with a lot of realtors and only heard good about this company) and I am glad I took the recommendation. The crew showed up at the time scheduled. They take great care in protecting your items as they wrap and cover almost everything. They lined my wooden steps and floor both in the new and old place to prevent floor damage. It may have taken a little longer for this process but so worth it! Since we didn't actually use their service the only thing I can review is their response in our initial inquires. I called them last (27, 28 of Sept) week, talked to Rich and told him I would contact him the following week. On Monday, Oct 1, as no one answered the phone I left a message but did not hear back that day. The next day I called a few times, each time going to voice mail until Rich answered. Told him who I was, refreshed his memory about our move and he said he would call me after he got back in at the end of the day. Did not hear back and still today (Wed) have not heard back. In my years in corporate America I learned that failure to do what you say, returns calls, reflects on the quality of the services of the company. That being said, I have moved on to a company that is responsive. The 2 stars are only for management, not the workers. read more

Severely disappointed in the service. First, they take a lot of breaks driving up your total fee because the charge is hourly. It took them 2 days to move us when another moving company did it in half a day and we had the same amount of stuff. They also don't wrap valuables or appliances and are quite reckless with them. When they break, their claims department will not replace them to the full value but rather 60 cents per lbs so for valuables, you are left extremely short of what it costs to replace. This company gave us an estimate with a date and time. We accepted the estimate and said we would call if we needed to schedule a different time. This company scheduled a different customer on the same day and cancelled our move without notice. They claim to be such great customer service but they failed us in a major way. Excellent experience from start to finish! Rich came over to do a walk through and gave us an estimate on the spot and explained to us what to expect. On the day of the move a team of three guys arrived on time and ready to work. Super polite, organized, and hard working, these guys managed to move my bulky furniture down 3 flights of stairs of my old place and up 3 flight last of stairs to my new place. No easy feat but they did it. Another great thing the company did for me was deliver to my door 3 bags that I had left in an old piece of furniture I asked them to haul away. Really considerate! This organization hit a home run on all the important issues for my wife and I as we moved from Lake Forest to Rancho MIssion Viejo. Rich estimated the efforts required, the time and resources it would take and its related cost with perfection and did not waiver in their commitment to us. We needed a large children's Swing Set (jungle gym with two slides, rock wall, deck, three swings, etc) disassembled, moved, and reassembled with only a few days notice and Rich's guys got it done. I called 30+ moving companies and even a few professional swing set moving companies and NOT ONE company came through in time except for Rich. They moved the swing set fast, made sure everything was tightened well and secure for the kids. They even made sure to set the equipment up keeping the kids in mind, how we would be able to see them from the house, make sure no trees were in the way, and made sure while going down a slide the kids wouldn't hit any sprinklers. I went with Rich Nelson Moving Services after good reviews here & on my neighborhood Facebook. It was a disaster from the moment the truck arrived. Rich assured me a 26 foot bob tail truck would arrive with 3 guys. A 20 foot truck that fit into a regular parking spot arrived. I contacted Rich immediately who conducts his business from Idaho & has a partner Derek who runs the business here locally. Derek claimed he wasn't informed of the 26 foot truck. A 20 foot truck should be big enough for a 2 bedroom apartment. Not to mention the day of moving was almost 100 degrees. The 3 guys did not work in sync. Rich & Derek ended up having 2 guys with a 15 foot truck come to help in the afternoon when they finished their job. With having 2 extra sets of hands you would think would making unloading faster plus with me helping. I ended up paying 9 hours plus 2.5 hours for the 2 guys who showed up. Never had an experience like this. Will not recommend them to anyone. read more

Overall rich and his team were great. My only caution to people is to make sure you completely understand what you and or the moving company are responsible for if any type of damage occurs. Also be sure to understand what the insurance you have the option of purchasing is covered. My wine cooler was broken somewhere along the line between my previous house and the new one, and when I inquired about it, I was told it was not covered by the moving company or the insurance I had purchased. I was pretty much told it was my problem. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. So just be sure to ask all the questions and understand what is and is not covered. read more
