The low fences and lack of active security systems is an invitation for burglars. We were burglarized at 66 Tesla in Irvine. It wouldn't have been discovered until the next day except for a neighboring business being on the ball. Our unit was broken into last night along with many others. This, immediately after I told management that I would be moving out after an aggressive rate increase. I was told they would work with us on the price but local management refused and continued to raise the rate for a 10 x 15 unit to $325 from $245. They pull you in with a low introductory rate and then sure that you wouldn't want move so soon, do a ridiculous rate increase. The day after I told them we would move out, our unit was burglarized. Terrible experience of theft from company Extra Space. I don't take these words lightly but the fact is I have 2 units, one billed correctly on my credit card but the 2nd unit declined due to suspected fraud. The company send a demand and threat of taking all my contents inside the unit if I didn't pay immediately. When they learned the credit card issue was not my fault, they said the $47.00 late fee would not take that Off. Unbelievable and unreasonable! I have a storage unit that I rent for work. I occasionally have boxes shipped to this storage facility. The staff have been extremely kind to move the boxes into my unit. Yesterday, I was expecting to receive a lot of boxes. I accounted for all, but two. I desperately needed the last two boxes for work. So, this morning, I showed up at my unit and there was still nothing. This was before the facility was opened. At 9:30am, I called and spoke to Raymond. I asked if my boxes arrived just in case it did arrive late yesterday and they have not had the chance to move it to my unit. He said no and he offered to put it in my unit as soon as he gets it. Not knowing when it will actually arrive, I was planning on blindly stopping by during my lunch break and was rearranging my schedule to do that. By my surprise, I received a call from Raymond. He informed me that my boxes had just arrived and he moved them to my unit. I was so happy. It was very nice of him to give me a call. read more

3.5 stars, but rated a 4 because units are clean. I rented a unit at this location up until recently and overall am happy. Back when it was mini-U storage, they had the lowest rates. But with two rate hikes in the past year, it was time to clean out. Why would I pay $79/mo for a 5'x7' unit when the exact same unit currently booked on their website, the way I originally purchased, is $55/mo?! I wish I had seen this sooner. Way to not reward long term rentals! Even though I was paying significantly higher, I will say that they've always been the lowest price around town. I almost always see someone sweeping the grounds when I'm here, and the units are pretty clean. Minimal dust and spider webs, a tiny bit of mice poop but for two years in a storage unit, forgivable. When I've called they were amazingly cheerful and helpful. When it was time to move out, I just called and we agreed upon a move-out date, and I left a message when it was empty, that was it! I recommend storing here, but keep an eye on current prices, perhaps as leverage to keep your rate nlow. They'll lie to you I called in because I saw a great deal online. And so I called and reserved it. I specifically asked "are there any other fees?" The guy on the phone said "no" . Confirming I said once again, "okay so I'll just go in and pay $xxx and that's it?" Once we arrived, all of a sudden there are other fees We were required to get insurance. Then another move in fee. They clearly lied to us. They should've disclosed this when I asked. read more

I had to move out of my old place in a quick fashion, and had rented from the facility before (when it was Mini-U Storage). Extra Space had the unit I needed, at a reasonable price. The staff was new, yet knowledgeable and friendly. I have been renting there since March 1st, and just received notification that my monthly rent is being increased by $10/month. I would not expect the rate to go up that quickly, and find myself kind of disappointed. Unfortunately, that makes me knock the rating from three stars to two stars Looks like I will be seeking out a new storage facility. read more

Expect your low rate to double after 4 months. The low rate you get is 100% guaranteed to go up after at least once a year and likely within 6 months. Rate started at $80 and now has gone up to $130, and it will continue to go up from there based on ExtraSpace standard operating procedure. This place won't even negotiate. Oh, and let's not forget the their practice of mandatory insurance which only issued by Extra Space, which is just a profit center and kickback for them, which BTW you can't opt out of having insurance. As other people have posted, they WILL raise your rates as soon as you move your stuff in. I started in March of 2015. My first payments were for $39 starting in March. By August, the rate went up to $45/month without notification. Even though the manager is friendly, the owner decides the policies and he will increase your rates. Period. Also, the advertised price does not include "mandatory" insurance. If you are very persistent, you can get them to remove the insurance. I had personal property insurance that covered my belongings so I was ready to walk if they forced me to pay for insurance. read more

I needed to find storage space my boss would be happy with. He is moving from a warehouse he has been in for 13 years. He wanted someplace close, safe, clean with great prices. I found the perfect place at Extra Space Storage. The guys that helped me out were friendly, knowledgeable and even a bit fun. The property was very clean and they had just what my boss was looking for. I did research for prices in this area and this company was the best price in town. They made me look good. I'd look else where. Initially they were very nice. After 9 months they increased my monthly by $15. When I called the woman who originally helped me said she would "look into it" and she would call me back after she spoke with the manager. I never received a call so I called when I say my credit card was charged the increase. The man who answered said it was approved to stay at my initial rate, then he put me on hold, came back on the line and said, no it wasn't going to be approved. Uhhh, wow now there's some great customer service. In the mean time my renters policy had renewed and I just called to see if they needed a new copy. The Manager, David tried to tell me my personal renters policy wouldn't cover storage units - storage away from my home. I told him yes it does and specifically states it in my policy. Then he told me I needed to keep their insurance as a piece of mind because my personal renters policy deductible was so high. That's a pretty large assumption to make there when my deductible is and has always been $100. Then I asked him what the move out policy was, he told me 10 days. I asked if it specifically states this in the least. He proceeded to tell me there was a new lease, but when I asked where this new lease is because I never signed anything and certainly didn't receive notice of a new lease - then he tried to tell me nothing really changed in the lease, it just easier to read. So nothing important changed in the new lease but the move out policy went from 2 days notice to 10 days notice. I'd say that was rather important. When I asked for the site email address he was extremely flippant rattled it off very fast like he's was a pilot and I'm and air traffic controller. Apparently this guy is the manager of the facility too. Corporate office happens to be in Salt Lake City, UT - where I'm from, and typically known to have overall nice customer service, apparently he needs to fly back for some training. read more

Now I find that they are advertising one rate on their web site, but are charging me a different rate. When I requested to have my rate the same as the advertised rate, they refused. read more
