AVOID Public Storage -- and take the positive reviews of this location with caution. I'll explain why later in this review. This facility can increase your rent dramatically and without meaningful limitation because the contract allows them to do so. In my case, rates nearly doubled with little warning. If your payment is even three or four days late, expect repeated calls and text messages. If you fall behind by roughly two weeks, they will lock you out of your unit -- even after already charging a substantial late fee that can average around $40 depending on unit size. In my opinion, that late fee alone should be sufficient consideration to keep the unit accessible. It should take a much longer period of delinquency and a clearly demonstrated pattern of neglect before someone is denied access to their own property. They will also cut your lock at the earliest opportunity and replace it with one of their own. Once you finally catch up on payments, you are effectively funneled into paying additional money -- over $20 in my case -- just to purchase one of their replacement locks and regain access to your belongings. Another major issue is the timing of their reviews. Customers are encouraged to leave reviews immediately after signing up, which helps explain why so many ratings appear positive. Those reviews often reflect only the initial signup experience, not the reality of dealing with the company over the medium or long term while your possessions are effectively being held hostage during disputes or late-payment situations. For military personnel specifically, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. In my case, repeated messages to management requesting that my account be converted to an active military account for a modest discount were ignored entirely. SPECIAL NOTE TO MILITARY MEMBERS: when researching storage options, ask companies upfront -- BLUF -- about military accommodations, lockout policies, rate increases, and protections for service members so you do not end up trapped in a predatory arrangement. I have personally experienced problems accessing military equipment because of these practices and policies. Yes, technically these actions are permitted under the agreement you sign -- but that does not make them reasonable, customer-oriented, or ethical by ordinary standards. The company appears to rely heavily on contract language that gives them broad authority to operate far beyond what most people would consider fair or proportional. Frankly, you may be better off renting garage space from a friend or pursuing another private arrangement. Military members should also look into MWR or NTS storage options, even if they require driving a greater distance. In my opinion, those alternatives offer far better protection, accessibility, and peace of mind for Department of Defense equipment and personal property. Stuff you may need to access in an emergency protecting the very people who are gouging you. read more

Y'know the place itself is just another storage facility, but this review is for the manager-on-duty, Guy! He is why I rented here. Initially I was going to cancel through their call-center; they're pretty bad actually, but Guy rectified the situation & kindly explained everything to me in detail with true concern. He saved the rental & my day! Lose him & y'all are in trouble. Thank you Guy! read more

My husband and I just rented one of the units at the Moulton/Laguna Woods facility. We were met by the manager, Guy, he was very polite and well informed. Went over every detail, gave us a tour to our unit and step by step instructions. Thank you for being so thorough Guy. You are an exceptional employee. read more

I love this storage facility. Guy was very accommodating and made the whole process painless and not stressful at all. I love that I have access to my stuff from 6 AM to 9 PM everyday. Would recommend this place to anybody. Keep it up read more

This review is specific to Guy and his facility at 23572 Moulton Pkwy. I like apps for the convenience, and PS has a decent one for account management and access. But I'd MUCH rather deal face to face with Guy. His personality combined with his customer service skills are off the charts. I swear, if I could I would hire him away, I would! There are are lot of options out there, but Guy is the only reason I rent at this location, for a few years now, and with no plans to switch. Good customer service has become, unfortunately, much too rare. Guy reminds you how it SHOULD be. read more

Guy and Edith are very through with explaining the process for access. The facility was spotless. I was impressed with their security.

I'm writing another appreciation and "Honorable Mention" about employee "Jim". He's nice, personable if you've got a question or issue when he's busy, he gives you an approximate call-back time and gets right back to you. He always has a smile..... And even sounds like he's smiling when you talk to him on the phone. He has great pride in his job. (I thought he was the owner. LOL.) and real "Keeper". It's so hard to get good Customer Service. read more

I recently moved across the country and could not have had a better experience at the below location. The manager Guy was so kind and so genial and so helpful. My wife and have nothing but condemnation for Guy and how he runs this hub. His customer service completely exceeded our expectations. We did not have one single issue on either move in or move out, nor did our movers. Thank you for everything! 23572 Moulton Pkwy Laguna Woods, CA 92637 read more

My unit was burglarized. I called the property to inquire and the person I spoke to said there was no unusual activity and no issues during the verified "lock check" and failed to mention that there was an actual bust made by the cops from thieves at their property. Not pleased with the deception and lack of sympathy here. The police said there was in fact no surveillance inside. Why am I paying out the eyeballs $80 a month for a 5x5 unit with no security? No empathy was given to me whatsoever. No apology. I wish I would have paid attention to all of the past reviews from patrons who had their belongings stolen. The people that stole from me hit multiple units. Property manager confirmed this but when I wanted to pull what was left of my stuff out and get refunded for March due to my belongings not being secure, he tried to tell me that the unit was secure and not their responsibility. If the properly was so secure, why are MULTIPLE units being robbed so often?! Horrible place! read more

After looking at several different storage options, we rented a storage unit at this location because we needed a unit closer to home and also needed to downsize. Guy, the manager, couldn't have been nicer and more helpful if he tried! He made everything very easy and followed up to make sure our move-in was smooth and trouble free. So not only did we get a storage space closer to home but also a place where we feel confident that this location is well run and we'll maintained. Did I mention that everything was very clean and secure? We're very happy with this new space and are looking forward to having Guy as our point person there. As storage places go, this one is pretty good! read more

Nice facility. Clean and taken care of.

I can't say enough about Guy, the manager, at the Laguna Woods location. I have multiple units and am in-and-out of my storages 3 to 4 times a week. Guy knows my needs and always lets me know when upcoming storage is available. I was at PS last Friday moving in a big delivery into several units. I thought I had locked each one carefully and left the premises. Guy noticed in his last rounds that although my door was closed to one unit, he found my lock on floor nearby. He locked my unit. And called me and left message that he had kept my lock for me to retrieve the next morning. I was beyond grateful for his personal service. He always seems to lessen my stress in moving and make it a more pleasant experience. He is professional, friendly and always on top of his responsibilities as a manager. read more

Public Storage never store there, run, never trust their advertising and lies. I stored household goods, art work and valuables for many years to my demise. This location is owned and operated by Public Storage Corporation. Robbers thieves burglarized this location on October 10, 2021. Fourteen occupied units has the doors smashed in and contents thrown in the hallways. This is a two story concrete tilt up structure which appears secure, they have giant tv screens in the lobby to display security cameras, twenty signs on premises that cameras are in use, they imply their are alarms on the doors but now I know they do not lock the rear doors. Some time in the past the exterior fire doors did have an alarm system and the company cancelled the alarm cost and the connections are cut and full of cob webs. Steve the employee called me at 12:40 after lunch to advise me of the break in the night before. Steve S refused to call the police although Public Storage property was also damaged in the burglary. I called and met the Sheriff at the location to find twenty some people wandering around, 14 occupied doors open, contents all smashed in the hallway, all my property broken and missing. I started cleaning up and making a list. Around 4:45 Steve told me a locksmith/handyman was on his way to fix the rear door and our unit doors. Steve left at 5:00 and I waited until 9 PM and no one ever arrived. The facility closes at 9, I loaded my car up twice and brought things home. The next morning 7 AM the rear door was still wide open and our units remained doors open for three days waiting for the fictional locksmith who had a flat tire. Meanwhile Public Storage employees allowed hundreds of people to wander around un attended, maybe to steal more. On the third day Steve and another Public Storage employee told me employees of the company moved our belongings back into our spaces and bent the door to fit (the door still opened without the use of a key) . Public Storage showed NO concern for the safety of our contents. Broken glass from my hundreds of antique Christmas ornaments sat crunchy all over the hallway for days. Public Storage employees touched just about everything I owned in there and moved the boxes and opened boxes AFTER the burglary. Public Storage advertises that they keep your treasures safe and secure your belongings but in reality they plan to steal them. No vacant unit was broken in, no unit with non payment was broken in. Only units who were full and longer term tenants - information available to insiders / employees only. There is zero security, none, the doors are so flimsy you can open them from the outside with a credit card. I never knew there were stairways to rear doors and no cameras on the interior of the building. The FAKE cameras only show the lobby - a scam to make people feel like their advertising is true. This building they advertised climate control, security, safety, and surveillance when I rented but that is lies. Public Storage knows the unit doors are easy to bend like cardboard and NEVER repaired the locks they just took a little crow bar to bend them back (probably the same crow bar used to break in). This Christmas I set up my manger set from my grandmother without Joseph and Mary because some Public Storage employee has him on his mantle. NEVER buy this stock they made me waste time making a claim and then Corporate employee LAUGHED at me. Short PSA read more

Be careful! I went to the facility to set up my storage unit and was VERY encouraged to take the Pacific Storage insurance (extra $15 per month). I was very upset that I had not been quoted this extra amount in the quote. The two employees on duty were very persuasive that my personal insurance would not cover offsite locations so I STUPIDLY signed up for the insurance. I went home and saw that my personal insurance DOES cover offsite properties. I returned to the facility the next day (less than 24 hours since I signed the contract) and cancelled the insurance ONLY TO FIND OUT that I was STUCK PAYING for the entire month!!!! I like to think people are on my side, helping me, guiding me with information. I was wrong - Just be careful. This was my first experience with self-storage. I am 66 years old and feel like a stupid child. read more

NO STAR here. "24 hour surveillance" give a FALSE SECURITY bc it only covers main doors to building, not the units/halls/floors. BEWARE: items stored in a locked unit are only as secure as the latch system PS provides is solid...NOT! When the thieves couldn't cut thru a cylinder lock they easily cut thru the steel latch to gain access. PS was of no help. No security. PS Never again. read more

We have been using the PBS company while I was posted overseas. On our return, We requested ONE day on a pro rata basis for the first of the month storage and not have to pay a full months rental. Good luck if you can ever reach anyone at their offices (first challenge.....you have to know a persons name then enter the name letter by letter!) It gets worse! We were told that this was impossible and was based on a one month contract. No discussion" When we appealed to them for understanding, the District Manager refused to discuss and just quoted the above. The District Manager Is so inappropriate in her role with absolutely no empathy or interest in Customer Service. Maybe it's become too large and feels it has no need to change and improve? For most house movers the entry into the new house can be done no earlier than the end of the month at midnight. Entry to the house is then is on the first day of that month. Seems that this is a great example of screwing the average Joe over a one day pro rata charge versus a month! Customer Service completely absent! Hard work to reach anyone!! UPS takes advantage of this situation for selfish greed. Hope new clients realize the "gotcha" before they sign up and find they want to move out. read more

I was helped by Kat. She was very helpful and a credit to public storage. She answered all our questions and even checked with other public storage locations. She sold the Laguna woods location to us over other locations without being pushy, just informative. She was very honest with all our questions. I would definitely recommend this location, they go out of their way to be helpful. I also spoke with Steve, the manager, he is very congenial and willing to help. This 1 star review relates to the business practice, which I'll go into later. The employees I've interacted with (Jim and Susan, I believe) have been very friendly and helpful. Why the 1 star: 1) My 4th month being there, I got a letter saying my rent is going up $20. It went from $140 to $160. Now I understand that increasing rent is normal. I'd be OK with $5/year. But that increase was 15%, and in this short period of time is absolutely ridiculous. Especially when I see on their website they have the same size unit, on the same floor, for LESS than what I originally paid. That's insulting. 2) The "oh, by the way" you need $11/month insurance. Plus making you buy their locks without buying them back when you leave. Annoying bait and switch/ hidden fees. We're in 2015 there shouldn't be anything shady like this anymore. 3) I recently went on consumeraffairs.com to look up other people's experiences with PS. 1.2 stars out of 5 with 109 reviews. That's horrible. Others feel similarly, regarding the price increases, insurance, people's units getting broken into and them not caring, etc. 4) I also don't like that there aren't any security cameras (at least I can't see them) to deter theft. Seems all to easy to go up there with bolt cutters and break in. The "mandatory" insurance only covers $3,000, I believe, which isn't that much considering most people store much more value than that. I suggest prior to signing up with PS to look at other companies, read reviews, and ask them how often they bump their rent. PS knows that moving storage units is a huge hassle, especially if you have lots of furniture. So they can unethically get away with these shady business practices knowing you're going to most likely stay no matter what. Hope this helps you make a more informed decision. read more

This place deserves negative stars . The elevator has been broken for months so the only way to get up from the ground floor is to get the person in the office to work the elevator for you. Since there is only this one employee on the premises , the office is often times locked and empty bc they are at lunch or otherwise occupied on the property . So you are stuck there on the ground floor with your stuff until they return which could be an hour or more . Every time I requested that the elevators be repaired , they would feign confusion and then state something to the effect of : " The elevators work fine " GASLIGHTING !!!! I have witnessed other tenants trying to get the elevators to go "up" and their attempts failed consistently as did mine . In addition they raise the monthly rate enormously because the contract supposedly permits it . The fee for my unit in October 2021 is $48 more than it was in Sept 2020 , a mere 13 months ago . If you are one month ( 30 days ) late , the fee is $99 . If you lose the key to your lock , they refuse to assist you in any manner ( even if you bought your lock from them as I did ) , they even claim that there are no bolt cutters on the premises . It's a storage facility !!!! They should have bolt cutters !!! They should have referrals to reliable local locksmiths !!! I had to hire someone out of the "ads " . I couldn't find anyone to come for days . When a locksmith finally arrived he informed me that the lock had to be cut off with a flame thrower " bolt cutters wouldn't work " ( a matter of opinion ) So He whips out this canister and all of a sudden a huge flame is ignited and sparks are flying everywhere in the narrow hallway . It stunk , it was dangerous and it was way to expensive . The only good thing to say about this place is that it's clean . read more
