This is a fun and easy concept. You pick your base, the protein and then 4 toppings. I decided on the rice noodle, bulgogi with cucumbers, seaweed, cabbage and bamboo. I then decided on a miso broth instead of the sauces. It was so yummy!! It is a pretty dish, it is ordered and served very fast and had great flavor!! I'll be back!! The staff was friendly and the establishment was clean. All the toppings looked fresh which is nice to see. Who wants to see a stale presentation or overlooked/heated food. However, the noodles were a little scarce on volume. I'm a 5'2 woman who is still left hungry after eating a whole bowl, and I added on bulgogi. 3.5 stars. Solid and interesting lunch spot downtown. You fill out one of three types of slips of paper (rice, noodles, gluten free) with your desired toppings. Don't forget to add some more substantial vegetables! I got a rice bowl with chicken, mushrooms, nuts, and spicy peanut sauce... it wasn't until the bowl arrived that I realized it would have benefited greatly from some broccoli. The spicy peanut sauce, however, was quite tasty and the chicken was well-prepared. They have a nice variety of options, and because you write down your order the lengthy line moves quite quickly. There are plenty of options for everyone, since it can be build-your-own versus choosing the restaurant suggestions, and the portions are great. Highly recommend if you are nearby and in need of a quick bite with healthy options. Rice bar got bibimbap on automatic, a la taco/salad bar, with all the requisite vegetables on standby, all ready to go. We chose the temple/vegetarian with brown rice and tofu (4 large pieces). The portions were substantial for lunch. And we were seated in 2 minutes flat. I appreciated the available choice of proteins, vegetables and sauces and then more sauces on the table, especially the Korean sesame oil. This is yet another Chipotle style restaurant, which is kinda cool, but unfortunately my experience here wasn't the best. At places like this, it seems that no matter what combination you try (because you pretty much pick and choose everything you want, which can be daunting sometimes), I think overall it should mesh pretty well and taste great no matter what you choose. Sure some combos might taste better than others, but it should still taste pretty decent. Unfortunately what I chose, was kind of on the border of Gross. It's kind of my fault because I chose it, but at the same time, given all the choices it "seems" like you can choose any of them and create a unique dish right? I chose buckwheat noodles, miso broth, eggplant, cucumber kimchi, and sprouts. The buckwheat noodles were Wayyy too soft...... it was gross. And I actually usually have buckwheat noodles with cold broth or as a cold salad, so having super soft noodles in a hot miso broth was not the best. Having the cucumber kimchi inside the soup was kinda weird, as normally korean style you would have it as a side. I took a few bites and made my husband eat the rest. To be fair, my husband's entree wasn't bad, it was a special item curry. The purple rice was good, the curry wasn't too strong (I wouldn't mind it being stronger but it was fine), had potatoes and carrots... But that was a bowl that was pretty much "pre-made" and you would just choose the protein and some toppings... My meal was completely created by me and it was not the best. My suggestions would be for the restaurant to have some "choice" menu selections that have the whole shabang already picked out, say for a rice bowl, for a noodle soup bowl, or a noodle salad bowl posted up, like "suggestions"... and then if people want to create their own meal that's totally fine too. Bulgogi is well marinated and tastes good and the whole bowl is fresh;) One thing that can be improved is that when they put all the materials together the juice would make the bibimbap watery at the bottom. So it would be much better if the server can pay attention to this. Also, the server (not the Korean girl) is unfriendly, making it an unpleasant dine-in experience. This place just opened couple of weeks ago and now I have visited it at least once a week. Because it is a "make your own" type restaurant there are so many selections and variations of bowls that you can choose from. I was really excited to try this place out and was really hoping I'd like it as it is so close to my office... but sadly, didn't meet my expectations. As soon as you enter, you will find a station to your right with a 3 different colored pieces of paper, with pencils on the side. You have a choice of choosing a pre-made bowl or you can make your own rice (or noodle bowl). You check off what you want on the piece of paper and then hand it over the counter for them to make. Then your paper order basically just get handed down the line and different people put the ingredients/toppings/protein in the bowl and then you pay towards the end. To me... the ingredients didn't taste fresh. I got an added order of egg (because what is bibimbap without it??) and the egg was cold. It basically looked like it had been sitting on the counter for awhile. Most of the ingredients (including my protein choice: bulgogi) was luke warm at best. To me, this is very similar to Takorean... but with more choices, but I probably would choose Takorean which is only a few blocks away from this at Eat National. read more

This is another rice bar that recently opened that I just had to try. This place is also very clean and I still love the fact that you can literally make your meal however you like. This place also has a very simple and clean look to it. I like the unique light fixtures they have and how bright the place looks over all. I should've kept walking...not because the food was that bad but i admit that I'm not a rice person. But the guy sitting in the window had what looked like an amazing rice bowl with all kinds of goodies. Once inside, it's clean, bright and contemporary. The food on the line looked good if somewhat unfamiliar. My finished product tasted ok. The chicken was stewed with a somewhat bland flavor. The greatest offense was the wide variety of temperatures. The biggest drawback with eating here is that they tend to nickel and dime for every single topping. So for example, the Bibimbap is $6.95. When you want to add a topping, it's an additional $0.79 per topping. and protein is ~$2 per item. When you compare to other casual places like Chipotle or Cava, you'll see that there is typically a threshold of a couple free toppings. I love rice bar! The food is delicious and fast! I love that you can choose from several different bases and toppings. I have to eat gluten free and there are a bunch of gluten free options and they even have a gluten free menu. I'm confused by the bad reviews. They usually involve someone saying that they don't really like rice, so they didn't like their food at rice bar. There are several options one can choose from other than rice, but if I didn't like rice, I probably would not eat at a place called rice bar. Food was pretty good but the ordering menu was a little hard to understand for first timers I would say. You order from a paper menu in the front with a pencil then give it to the cook to prepare. Luckily I had a friend with me to explain everything in the process because she had been before. I have been to bibimbap restaurants before but I prefer them to help you along the way getting your choices. I chose the udon noodles with teriyaki chicken that was just okay, I've had better. They do have a lot of choices to add to your bowl which was nice. They have a long table if you want to eat in or you are able to take out. They also take Apple Pay which I like. read more

Stumbled onto the news that they recently opened a location near my office, so I figured I'd give it a try since it's frigid outside. Really good, enjoyed the bulgogi noodle bowl to-go (ramen noodles & clear broth, plus chili oil), and given its huge size it was well worth the $12. Broth isn't as rich as a normal ramen or pho, but with the toppings and some gochujang it was delicious and perfect on a cold day. I ordered a pre-defined bowl, but there's a ton of options for customizing your bowl if you'd like. Service was also very quick and friendly. Some customers were confused about the ordering process (fill out one of the paper slips by the door), but the workers were patient in helping them. Really my only complaint is that I had too much broth, I wasn't able to fit it all in the bowl of noodles/toppings (the broth is packaged separately, which was really useful for the walk back to the office). Not that I'm particularly upset about having leftovers for tomorrow, but I could easily have done with a smaller portion. All in all, I'll happily go back and try the bibimbap or another type of bowl in the future. read more

I love this Rice Bar Bibimbap restaurant because their food quality was so good and it was delicious as well. A lot of people were in the restaurant at lunch hour but it took about 5-7 minutes. I didn't have to fill out the menu paper and told them what I want. I tried spicy chicken signature but changed to teriyaki chicken at the meat section. I liked this place! Was with a friend who is a picky eater (I know right, pickier than I am?!) who had never had Korean food (or, to be fair, Korean fast food) before. But it was great. Loved that there are flexible options for different dietary needs.
