Kalbi Noodle Bowl
Tori N.

I recently went to Rice Bar for dinner and had a great meal. It's a fun setup, like Chipotle for Korean food. The restaurant isn't huge but there are probably close to 20 seats, where you don't feel too crowded. The service was good and quick, and the food was delicious. My only complain is if you make your own bowl, you can only have 4 toppings for free. Each additional topping was $1.39, which felt crazy expensive. I was able to swap out a veggie in one of the signature bowls, but it would be too expensive to add more toppings, which is disappointing.

I was really disappointed with this location. The other location nearby had a really long line so we came here but the service wasn't great and the food was mediocre. They gave me 8 pieces of kalbi beef and the food wasn't warm

Great experience for a late lunch. I tried making my own bowl but really didn't know where to start. The helpful cook guided me to the Kalbi and I have no regrets. Flavorful and filling. Great place to grab a quick lunch in the area. You'll leave full and happy.

Spicy Chicken

My first time having black rice which was a bit dense, not fluffy, sticky; or sweet. I had spicy chicken with veggies; and spicy peanut sauce it was very flavorful and as saucy as the chicken was, it was a bit dried. The service was fast and the place was small, cozy; and packed.

A quaint restaurant located in a larger suite-style building, the restaurant is packed during lunchtime on weekdays. Although, service is quick and efficient. The seaweed salad topping was refreshing, but the teriyaki tofu lacked substance. Overall, the food here was fine and inexpensive for DC.

The udon was great, unfortunately they were out of a few ingredients forcing me to switch it up, but despite the missing ingredient my dish was great. The staff was great though. Its small and nice for a quick lunch, solo or with a friend or 2. The music was nice as well.

The spot was ok and usual rice bar selections. It did not look as clean as I imagine. The chicken seemed overcooked. I have never tried a rice bar before. So hope their other locations are better bibimbop

Tofu Bibimbap

Fresh, fast, delicious, and reasonably priced. I got the vegetarian bibimbap with tofu, which was flavorful and full of Korean radish kimchi, spinach, bean sprouts, and marinated mushrooms. You could choose to add gochujang (pepper paste) and sesame oil. My husband got the bulgogi bibimbap. I lived in Korea for two years, and my husband is Korean, and we both thought the food was authentic. You can also customize your food the way you want and choose a variety of veggies and sauce including peanut sauce and noodles to make more of a Thai-styled meal. I would definitely come back for lunch again.

Clean and welcoming place. The person who served me was nice and accommodating when I asked for some customizations. Food was okay for a quick lunch

Extremely mediocre. Some wilted, ice cold ingredients mixed in with medium-warm broth. Bleagh.

I made RSVP for this Korean restaurant on a Sunday evening...and it was bustling!…read more Despite RSVP for the main room, we got seated in an extended part of the room (more like an indoor patio?)...so frankly, the ambiance was a bit off for me. So was the overhead music. Guess I expected a more authentic Korean experience, but the place was more or less an Americanized Korean bistro. Still, the foods seemed authentic! We ordered a few things to share... Mandu, Dolsot Bibimbap, and this Ssam Board. For drinks, my husband got some beer (?), and I got this fruity cocktail (??). First, the positives! The Mandu was really, really good...and quite meaty! The Dolsot Bibimbap was good in that it came with a generous load of fresh veggies. Now the problems. The Bulgogi in the Dolsot Bibimbap was problematic. It was a bit too fatty...and too chunky...and just hard to eat. It was also a bit bland! They should have cut it up a bit...or provided us with proper cutlery, like a fork and a knife! This is a pet peeve of mine...but nowadays, hardly any restaurant gives you the full set of cutlery. Just fork, or just chopsticks!! Then the Ssam Board. While it looked luscious, I personally had a problem with the meat. While I love Galbi, cuts of Galbi was all-out rare. The waiter didn't even ask for our preference, by the way. If I knew it'd be prepared that red, I would have ordered something else. If it was medium-rare, for instance, I might have liked this dish. My husband prefers a much more rare cut of meat than me, yet even he thought this was too red. Also, I expected something more than raddish for sides. Not sure if this "Board" was worth $42. We also tried this Black Sesame Ice Cream dessert. I loved the flavor...but nothing too special. Service was a bit off as well. While friendly at our table, our waiter wasn't too attentive...especially in the beginning. If he stopped by our table earlier, I might have gotten them to bring back the Ssam Board to cook the meat a bit more. Frankly, I was underwhelmed with the foods, the presentation, even the service. Overall, there were just too many things amiss (or just underwhelming??)...so much so that I doubt I'll pick this place again.

I visited on a Friday around 6:30 PM and sat at the bar to catch the end of happy hour (Mon-Sun 5-7 PM). The bar was empty at the time, but a few other people showed up later. The dining room had a handful of tables occupied. In short, easy to get a seat. Drinks were good. I like the Somaek ($6) which is a small beer and a shot of soju. Beer ($7) was beer. We got some beef and pork mandu (dumplings) that were pretty good. 6 pieces for $10 on HH. We got two entrees, the Ddukbokgi ($28) and Yukgaejang ($29), which came with four banchan. Ddukbokgi is chewy rice cakes, gochujang, onion, and bulgogi. We thought it was only ok -- we've had better, including at Mandu in the past. Yukgaejang was a new dish for me. The menu described it as a "spicy beef stew, brisket, noodles, shiitake, bean sprouts, and egg." I expected the brisket to be sliced and recognizably brisket, but it was pulled -- it looked and tasted more like pulled pork. The dish also didn't have any noodles in it. I didn't like it. The banchan was seaweed, bean sprouts, kimchi, and cucumbers. It was okay. Service at the bar was fine.

For $45 per person, the all-you-can-eat experience feels like a really solid deal considering how many protein options and side dishes you get. They start you off with a variety of banchan (side dishes), including a salad with this super tasty dressing that had the perfect little spicy kick. For the BBQ, we kicked things off with the spicy bulgogi and butter garlic shrimp, while the others tried the pork belly (I don't eat pork). Later we ordered the steak, spicy brisket, and grilled squid, which were all delicious. The spicy brisket especially was a standout for me. The guys also ordered two rounds of fried dumplings that looked amazing, but since they contain pork, I had to sit those out. I'd love to see Chadol add a veggie dumpling option to the menu! As for the sides, the kimchi and cold glass noodles were both hits at our table, and of course we all added white rice. The "mashed potatoes" though? Definitely more like potato salad and unfortunately very bland. On the other hand, the cheese corn costs extra but is 1000% worth adding. For drinks, the guys enjoyed the Woody Old Fashioned while I had a mezcal margarita-style cocktail that was smoky and refreshing. We also ordered one of the chicken options but never received it and eventually just gave up on it. One of the coolest parts of the experience is the ordering system. Most meats are ordered directly from a machine at your table, and the food comes out quickly on this conveyor belt-style setup which was honestly so fun. Drinks and side dishes are ordered through the servers. The atmosphere was lively and energetic without feeling overwhelming. The restaurant is actually much larger inside than I expected, with a modern setup that works well for smaller groups. That said, I didn't really notice tables for larger parties, so I'm not sure how they accommodate groups bigger than 6 people. Service started off a little rough because our server wasn't very attentive, but after I called it out, he definitely stepped it up and things improved. Overall, Chadol was a really good experience and absolutely worth the price. The 1.5-hour seating limit makes sense too, both to keep things moving and give others a chance to enjoy the experience. I'd definitely go back!
