I feel compelled to update my review. For probably the last six or seven years, I would say the quality of the flavor has gone downhill. I will also say the hours are until 8 PM but several times they have turned away to go orders starting at 4 PM. I don't understand the difference between offering someone to dine in or to go. If it's a small order, I could just put the food in it to go box myself at the table..... if there's a reason they're not taking to go orders they need to state what it is. About the flavor difference I don't know the potatoes taste different. The burnt ends taste different. The brisket taste different. They have also made several menu changes and changes to how they advertise in the actual brick-and-mortar location. With all these changes over the last six years, it just does not feel or taste like the same restaurant. And I'm turned off by the refusal of to go orders. I would much rather drive down the street to the other barbecue location. read more

I popped in for some burnt ends and brisket to go. I've been here 10 minutes already, and still have not been served, with only three parties in the place and two of them already have their food. The two servers behind the counter are completely discombobulated. And, one of the employees just touched the inside of my sanitized to-go container with their bare hands after being out on the floor, touching dirty dishes, handling the dirty cash register, touching other surfaces. and everything else. The other server seems to be completely lost and staring off of the distance wiping counters while there's orders pending. My order. She really doesn't seem to be able to focus very well and know what to do. For example, there are plates of food sitting on the prep table, ready to go out and she walks over and looks at my ticket and then just stands there and wipes the counter. My to go order would literally take probably 30 seconds to put it into a container, weigh, and hand it to me, but she just won't do it. And, the other patron's food is getting cold. It seems like the guy that's on duty is the brains of the operation and he's doing all the work. I get out to my truck and the burnt ends feel really light in contrast to my brisket order. I ordered a half a pound of burnt ends, and 1/3 of a pound of brisket. Something isn't right. I take the burnt ends back in and show the guy that was at the register when I came in, he agreed something went wrong. It looked like a third of a pound, but I would argue that it wasn't even a third. By the way, this was prepared by the girl working that was daydreaming. He then made it right and handed back my tray, which I was grateful. He was apologetic and he took care of it well. Just to be clear, he did not give me more than half a pound but he made it right. And then went to go pick up a plastic fork, that's usually over in a cup on the counter, but there were none. So I had to get their attention quickly and ask for a fork and they pulled one up from behind the counter, after I was told they were over by the beverage machine. They both seem surprised that there were none up there ready to go. The food as usual was delicious. This is the sad part. The service is all over the map and completely in need of some serious management and restructure. I realize that it's very difficult to get good help these days, but this is a training issue. I can't go back in now knowing that the last 3 to 5 times I've gone in there. I've always had a problem with service. If the food was piping hot when it arrived, I might not be so bothered, but this lack of efficiency causes the food to be delivered cold. That's not my definition of a good experience. If you have a lot of time on your hands, and you don't mind waiting, and you don't mind your food warm instead of hot, then I would say venture out and try this place because the flavor and textures are good. Just set your expectations accordingly. The atmosphere is comfortable and rustic. A little loud because of the openness, no booths, just tables and chairs with 1/2 booth. Lots of self service going on here so be careful before you tip at the register. By the way, I chose not to tip at the time of payment when I walked in because I don't like tipping in advance of receiving the service. The purpose of the gratuity is to compensate your server based on the service they delivered, not will deliver or should deliver. Or in this case didn't deliver. I realize that not tipping on the front end gives the employees a chance to retaliate with poor service because you didn't tip. Oh how the times have changed. read more

I travel around the country as an instructor for USDOT. With that said I always try to sample their regional BBQ. This restaurant was recommended by an old friend. When we walked in we could smell it was definitely BBQ. We both had the two meat platter with beans and a smashed potato. The meats were brisket and ribs. There was not a whole lot of flavor. There was very little in the way of a smoke ring. The brisket was sliced about "card stock" thin. The ribs were cooked properly as to temperature, not completely falling off the bone, just right. Flavor was added by the variety of sauces. The sides were the hit, both being good. The best part was an order of burnt ends and the sauces packaged "to go" for me. With traveling back to Western Washington they went into a traveling refrigerator until tonight. They were very good, the best part of the meal other than spending it with a baseball teammate I hadn't seen since June 13, 1969. read more

I had family over last week and found myself in a pinch for what to make. I had no time really and lots of hungry people coming over. I decided to order takeout from Rib Shack in Eagle, and it turned out to be the perfect decision. I picked up two racks of baby back ribs along with several sides, and everything was excellent. The ribs were tender, flavorful, and a big hit with everyone at the table. The potato salad was also especially good. One of the highlights was the selection of BBQ sauces I asked them to include. They gave us a variety to try, and it ended up being a fun part of the meal. We all compared favorites, debated which ones were the hottest (and which ones might actually be too hot), and had a great time with it. The restaurant itself wasn't overly busy, but there was a steady flow of takeout orders and that is always a good sign. The inside was clean and orderly. The staff was friendly, helpful, and quick, which made the whole experience even better. If you love good ribs and want to support a solid local business, definitely stop by Rib Shack. I think this is one of the best bbq places in the treasure valley, if not the best. They have changed their menu a few times over the last decade but their meats stay solid. The ambiance of this place screams bbq from the minute you walk in. Decor is great and the smells are just as inviting. Its always pretty clean and tidy. Their service is stellar, and speed is determined on how long the line is but you get your food in a reasonalble time. Their brisket and brisket burnt ends always hit the spot! They have good smoke rings and they season it texas style with some personal pit touches flare that I enjoy! Their ribs are fall off the bone full of flavor and sauces to pair with are always fun. A friend recently recommended Rib Shack BBQ. We have lived in the Treasure valley for a little over a year, and had not heard of it. Since we like BBQ and trying new places, we gave it a try. Today is Tuesday and we came between 3:30 and 4 pm (we're retired) and had the place all to ourselves. It is located on State Street west of Eagle Rd, in a small shopping center. The entrance is from the State Street side and exit within the shopping center. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. We decided to get the "Love Shack" meal, 12 baby back ribs with two sides. We chose onion rings and spicy potato salad but they have many choices. When we first walked in the young, bespeckled man at the counter gave us a free sample rib end, so moist and juicy. There is a bar with many BBQ sauce selections in squeeze bottles. There are plenty of rolls of industrial paper towels. Tables are wood, some in the center, others along the wall with padded benchs on one side an chairs on the other. Besides the young man, there was another employee visible, a nice woman. The young man did a nice job of promoting the restaurant. The ribs were good, not as moist and tender as the rib ends, but with plenty of meat and very good with the sauces. I enjoyed the onion rings but was not a fan of the potato salad. It was a little try and not that tasty, even with salt. We will definitely be back to try more menu options. read more

Wanted to try a rib place while in the area. A friend told me this was the best. Had the half rack of baby back ribs with a side of fries. I liked the Texas BBQ sauce best. The ribs weren't what I consider fall off the bone which is fantastic. Fall off the bone suggest too overcooked. They were really good but not as juicy as St. Louis ribs. The fries were super good. The service was good also. If they had juicer ribs it would be a 5 IMO. read more

I can't believe I haven't been back to this place in five years. We were at Green acres on Father's Day and I ordered from the rib shack barbecue truck. The tacos I ordered there were amazing. Ever since then I've been dreaming about visiting the restaurant which just so happens to be right in my hood. So it's my daughter's birthday over the weekend and we brought her and her friends here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place was lively full of people enjoying barbecue. The cashier was extremely helpful explaining the menu to our party of five. I definitely ordered the brisket tacos again, hoping for the same amazingness that the food truck delivered. Our party also ordered individual sides to share - cornbread, broccoli salad, and the nachos as well as a few other meals. The tacos at the food truck were slightly better to the ones that we got at the restaurant. The difference seem to be that the food truck offered more meat or it appeared to offer more. It was tender and flavorful and melted in your mouth. The restaurant tacos seem to have toppings: pickled onions and jalapeños, on them when the food truck tacos I think had just a single jalapeño. I don't know if it mattered. I don't know why but I just remember the food trick tacos being so good. I can't say that the tacos disappointed either time just slightly different. The nachos were great. I definitely would order those again. They put them on potato chips with meat of choice, cheese, and toppings. We had all the spicy stuff on the side and it made it very enjoyable for us to pick the heat level we wanted to experience. The brisket on the nachos was A+! Everybody enjoyed their food, including my picky son who ordered nothing and then ate two of my tacos with glee. The biggest reason why I can't give them a five star review is that the restaurant was full of flies. Don't ask me why, but there was 1 million flies in the women's restroom. And I noticed some were all about the dining room. This is quite disgusting. I don't know what's going on and I don't even want to imagine why there were so many flies that day. The place looked clean, and the sauces were well stocked. The service was good, very friendly. The food was so so. My son's pulled pork was cold and dry. Food came out cold and there was more fat on the meat than there was meat. The potato salad looked like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for weeks and the fries were soggy and lukewarm. Service took ages and we were waiting for what felt like endless periods of time for our order to be taken, food to come out, and check to be delivered. The food came out and honestly I couldn't even eat it it looked so disgusting to me. The pull pork looked like some type of indistinguishable flesh from some animal that wasn't a big, and the brisket was a gelatinous mess of fat. I don't know who their pit master is but Gordon Ramsey needs to come pay this place a visit and help turn it around. How they have such a high rating on yelp is insane! read more

They had live music and there's lots of seating, good place for groups. Ordered a take out order and arrived 5 minutes after the recommended ready time. The restaurant was empty, less than 5 people in the restaurant. I then waited 35 minutes additional for my food. 4 ribs, 3 orders of chicken strips, nachos, corn bread, Mac and cheese and beans. Besides the delayed service, which by itself isn't terrible. The food quality is the problem. The bread on the chicken tenders was very old, as if I was sitting all day in a warmer. The fries were marginal, beans didn't have good flavor and we paid $130. We had a group of 23, reserved the private room, they knew we were coming. One of the most popular items is the Burnt Ends, and with a large group coming in at 5:00 on a Friday night, they are already out of them?! Shame on them. I will never go back here. The tri tip plate was just average, the meat was ok, but on the dry side, good thing I had the KCO sauce to help it along. My sides were disappointing. Smashed potatoes were not even hot. The coleslaw was so lame! No flavor, nothing. It's like they took coleslaw out of a bag and added water. My friend got onion strings, and I was like "wow" i wish I had known, but their menu leaves a lot up to guessing. Just a chalkboard crowded with people, you can't see everything. Well the onion rings/strings only told me, they need to change their oil! So gross. All I tasted was rancid oil! We grabbed Rib Shack to go for dinner tonight. My nephew wanted to go there for dinner for his birthday but due to scheduling we grabbed it to go. They had everything packed and ready for us. They also packed plenty of BBQ sauces for us to choose from. Dinner tonight consisted of brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans and smashed potatoes. The brisket was tender! You can cut it with your fork tender. It could have been seasoned a little more than it was. There wasn't much flavor to it. The pulled pork was delicious. Slap that pulled pork in a soft bun and top it off with some bbq sauce..... chef's kiss! The coleslaw has always been one of my favorite sides. It usually has a good amount of acidity to it and a hint of bitter from the black seeds that they use. But unfortunately the coleslaw wasn't hitting today. It lacked flavor. It was like eating raw wet cabbage. No acid, no sweetness, not much of nothing. The last few times I have ordered it it's been disappointing. I had it one time few years ago and it blew my socks off. Since then it's never been the same which sucks. Same with the smashed potatoes, they used to be so good! They were disappointing today. I will have to say the baked beans were good today. It had big chunks of meat in it. It also had a slight kick to it which added a nice element to it. Overall it was a decent meal. I really enjoyed the brisket and pulled pork. We had ribs ends, burnt ends and turkey. Generous portions with quality product. Then, there are the sides: So many sounded delicious, but we got the bbq beans and mac n cheese. Both were some of the best we've ever had and we've eaten our fair share of BBQ in the south. We were excited to try their wide variety of sauces, which did not disappoint. The South, Bama and Cherry Bourbon were favorites. Finally, the service was what brought it all home. Our server, Kota, was informative, intuitive and hospitable. He was one of the best we've had. I've eaten from Rib Shack numerous times and never been disappointed. Today, I tried the phenomenal Tri-Tip Nachos ($13.00). OMG these are absolutely, insanely good that the only reject I have is ordering one to share instead of just for me. The meat is deliciously tender and smooth, literally melt in your own like butter. The chips used were thick cut, well seasoned BBQ chips. I wish they weren't so stingy on the caramelized onions and jalapeños. I recommend asking for extra if you like any of those. I am going to go right in the middle on this spot and will highlight the highs and lows...I was excited to find another BBQ in the area because this whole area is starving for great BBQ. I also am a huge BBQ snob and work at it at home to perfect so I always go into any BBQ with that in mind. Walking up my 1st sign was you didn't smell smoke? Kind of weird for a BBQ joint? Inside great lay out with lots of tables and open concept. For a space like this I would suggest getting some more TV's and make a spot for people to come watch multiple games in different TV's. The one TV they had wasn't even on the morning Sunday football game. They have a walk up counter which is fine and have a ton of selection along with a few daily specials. Placed my order of burnt ends, 1/2 rack of ribs with my sides of onion rings and coleslaw. The food came out pretty quick but what I could tell right off that the food was reheated. The ribs had a good smoke ring but were lukewarm what mad it up was the selection of different bbq sauces. Loved the hit and Carolina one as a preference. The burnt ends while pretty good weren't that tender which they should be more meaty and not more tender. The sides were ok I liked the coleslaw and the onion rings but the onion rings are frozen and they did cook them well. I honestly felt like the food tasted more like a Dickey's BBQ and not authentic but again what made up for it was the bbq sauce selection. I would come back during the week to see if the preparations are fresher. Now what dropped this in my opinion was the staff on Sunday 9/24...while friendly taking my order I didn't appreciate the unprofessional comments, cursing loudly where everyone could here and a few of the other patrons looked up as well while the antics where going on. Really felt like a major lack of leadership. With that I have higher hopes and like I said will give it another try because I so want to find another staple BBQ option in the Treasure Valley. read more

The sides are good but the brisket didn't have any bark, the pork belly burnt ends were over done and tasted like they have been stored in bbq sauce, the turkey well.. it needs work. Have been here many times over the years. Great BBQ. You can smell it as soon as you open your car door. Great lineup of BBQ and sides. That being said you need to get what you pay for. Had a friend pick up an order that they pre-ordered to bring over for dinner. Would've preferred to resolve via email, but no email option, so I felt the need to leave a review. Many items were ordered by the pound. When we were looking at the packages, everything looked small. So, we put them on a scale to confirm. All packages that were supposed to be 1 lb. were between 8 to 10 ounces, 6 to 8 ounces short of what was ordered. This needs to be done at the restaurant, and to deliver the amount that was ordered, without exception. This is just not acceptable. I do hope the quality control is taken more seriously going forward, else I am done. read more

I consider myself somewhat of a bbq lover and I have had bbq from all over the country. Florida Texas Kansas City just to name a few! And when I walk into the rib shack I get this warm cozy down home country feel with super nice staff that helped me decide what I should try. I ALSO told them I have never eaten there before AND THEY GAVE ME A FREE RIB, while I decided what I should order. The brisket was seasoned perfectly and my favorite sauce was the Texas style sauce. They also served me some Wagu type steak that was BETTER than filet mignon! It melted in my mouth. I fries and the fries had the skin on which I love crispy and the cheese sauce was homemade and to die for! The beans were also delicious with chunks of real meat that were very tender without being mushy. Those were my favorite! They also had a variety of delicious craft brews that were unique and I enjoyed a nice lunch with my family there! Another time I spent they even had live music! Which was nice and in the small space wasn't too loud or obnoxious! And I didn't have to yell to talk to the person next to me! If you're looking for a warm family style environment and exceptional food choices that you can tell took a lot of time to cook, I could taste the love that was put into every dish I tried! We are here exploring the Boise area so we came up to the Hidden Springs area to see what it was all about. We were surprised to find this hidden gem of a restaurant in this area. The craft beer selection was small, but enough to choose from. The food was delicious! I definitely recommend the pork ribs and smashed potatoes! They had a great selection of sauces. The cherry vanilla bourbon sauce was so good-I would eat that by itself. This is my go to for the Treasure Valley area. They have the best bbq. Today was the tri tip with their famous signature macaroni and cheese and broccoli salad with the Cherry Vanilla Bbq sauce.
