    Street Corn Named Desire

I have wanted to try Spitfire since it opened, but the fervor and lack of availability for me to go delayed my visit. I had a day off for my birthday and decided to celebrate at Spitfire to coincide with my first visit (finally!). We had to initially decide on indoor or outdoor dining. Since it was a 96 degree day, we opted for indoors...though the only downside is they have the outdoors only separated by a magnetic screen "door", which still lets in heat and flies. The happy hour menu was presented as soon as we were seated with a cheerful ask if we wanted to start off with bogo margaritas. Yes, please. Keep in mind, this is bogo per person, not to share around the table. I started off with the Huckleberry Acapulco, which was slightly sweet with a hit of tequila. Next, I tried the Tijuana Tamarind which was more savory and evenly balanced. Next came the "Street Corn Named Desire" street corn appetizer with chips. The corn was heavily seasoned and spicy. I can handle spice and it made me sweat a little...but it was crave-worthy spicy, not "burn your tongue off" spicy. Next came the plethora of burritos and tacos that the family and I ordered. I opted for a single smash burger taco, filled with a crispy-edged thin burger patty nestled with fresh iceberg lettuce, cheese, dill pickles and the "spitfire special sauce" (which closely resembles thousand island dressing) in a beautifully griddled flour tortilla. Every bite was like eating a balanced burger, but just as a taco. I genuinely each bite. Everyone eagerly gobbled up their meals with "yummmmmm" occasionally floating around the table. Next, they brought out the churro lava cake to celebrate my birthday. That cake was so uniquely fun and decadent. They made everything so special for me! With the exception of the flies joining us for dinner, I cannot wait for my next visit.

We ordered al pastor tacos, Baja California tacos, a burrito, and nachos with salsa, along with a margarita and a glass of wine. Everything was tasty and well-prepared, with good portions and a reasonable price. The atmosphere was lively and pleasant, and the service was friendly and efficient. Overall, a solid spot for casual Mexican-inspired food and drinks in Eagle.

As someone exploring the local culinary scene, I was excited to try Spitfire Tacos + Tequila. The aesthetic is spot-on--modern decor with a lush, green feel and ample seating between the two patios and the interior. Drink & Appetizer: I started with the Cabo San Fresca. It's a sophisticated cocktail where the elderflower and mint really shine. For an app, I tried the Street Corn Name Desire. Note: it is served off the cob. Despite a few salty chips, it was a delicious starter. The Tacos: 1. Pollo Asado (GF): 5/5. This is a must-order. The chicken chicharrones add a great crunch, and the guacamole balances the heat beautifully. 2. Korean BBQ Pork Belly: 3/5. A very sweet/vinegar-forward profile. If you enjoy a sweeter taco, you'll like this, though it felt a bit heavy for me. 3. Baja Mahi Mahi: 1/5. Unfortunately, this was inedible. The breading was so greasy it masked the toppings, and the fish was quite chewy. Service Reflections: I arrived just after 3:00 PM (Happy Hour is 3-5 PM), but I wasn't given the HH menu or informed of the specials. I didn't realize the oversight until I saw the signage by the host stand at 4:01 PM. While my server Emily R. was pleasant, I was surprised the kitchen or service staff didn't address the untouched Mahi Mahi taco or offer the promotional pricing earlier. I'll likely return for the Pollo Asado and the atmosphere, but I hope to see more proactive service regarding Happy Hour and food quality checks next time.

    Carne Asada Burrito

Love the tacos, the one on Eagle has always been great. Decided to go to the new one in garden city for lunch, 18.50 for a burrito that's barely wider then 2 fingers, things tiny for a 20$ burrito. Do better. Things like a Taco Bell burrito but costs 15$ more

Smash taco with government cheese? Pass

Tacos are on the menu tonight and the websites for Google and Yelp suggest Spitfire Tacos and Tequila have been recieving positive reviews. On a Saurday afternoon, the place was humming with people inside, outside and on the roof. A positive vibe was in the air. We got a seat at the bar and looked over a large menu. We started with the chips sprinkled with tajin seasoning and a delicious and savory salsa. The tacos looked intriguing, so we selected the alta California shrimp with tajin crema slaw, guacamole, cotija, pica da gallo and chipolte crema on a corn tortilla. I could not taste the shrimp as the slaw and all other ingredients overwhelmed the flavor. The smash burger taco contained ground beef, government cheese (does not sound appealing), dill pickles, lettuce and their special sauce. Again, you could only taste the cheese. I didn't love the tacos and found them both grossly over-powered by the condiments. Another bone to pick was the swarm of flies inside the restaurant. It was difficult in defending the food from the swarms of flies. Eating here again will not happen. Spitfire Tacos and Tequila has a good vibe, nice building, friendly staff but they first need to refine the taco profiles, so one can highlight the protein. Bug control is a close second!

Good breakfast burritos. The bacon bird had a little heat and great sauce. Good size for the price, too. Takeout was fast (10 mins). I would come here for a quick breakfast burrito to go again.

Over a year later and it is time for an update. We have been here dozens of times and I am happy to say the early growing pains are long gone. The front of house runs smoothly, food comes out fast, and quality has been consistent. The tequila and mezcal selection is solid and something we look forward to every visit. The house chips dusted with Tajín and the trio of dips are always a must. Do not skip the queso. When the weather is nice, the outdoor seating shines. The new top level deck with its bar and lounge-style seating has become our favorite spot to hang out. If you are hungry for tacos and maybe a little tequila, Spitfire Tacos is the place to go. Oh, and the smashburger taco, I know it sounds weird, but if you like burgers must try!

Fun atmosphere in downtown Eagle! Tacos for all kinds from vegetarian to classic carnitas to smashburgers in tortillas. We couldn't choose so we ordered the wheel (one of each) which comes with a goblet of margarita (which was fantastic). They fence in the patio so they have high capacity year round. Small parking lot and street parking. The rooftop patio would be fun in the summer!

Grabbed a quick dinner here on Monday night. It was quick seating while still being a little busy. There's a large selection of drinks and a great menu selection as well. Both of the tacos I got were delicious and had amazing flavor.

Wow. What a let down after a year. Service was nice but the food was not good. My simple taco was literally inedible. It was extremely slathered in Tajin and I think adobo. I can handle spice but it was horrible and soooo tart. My poor grandson ordered a chicken soft taco and little squares of chicken with weirdly grated cold white cheese and that's it - in a soft tortilla. He said he didn't want it. I was really embarrassed to take the fam there. It used to be good. Won't go back.

I don't smoke, & sensitive to all types of smoke...so I'd thought I'd have issues here... but their state of the art air purification system really works! I came as I appreciate quality & creativity when a full bar is present, being the Foodie that I am! Every staff member (as well as patrons) I met were all genuinely friendly, & full of ideas of drinks to try. (& fun info on cigars avail too of course... sounds like they have a great selection on that front too of course!)... As I'm a very light drinker, I qonly got to enjoy one delish drink this time , but I got to try another drink the 1st time I came, & I had a sip of my friend's drink ... all 3 drinks were fantastic... in quality spirits, in presentation, in atmosphere the drinks were enjoyed in... I highly recommend this as another downtown Eagle destination, even if u don't smoke, or u smoke but don't want to drink...as the cozy yet ample enviro lends itself to both intimate as well as group gatherings. I appreciate that I can bring my own food in, & that there is both indoor as well as outdoor seating. I rate it as very accessible, as multi seat types, multi entrances, spacious interior & exterior. Honestly it was nice to not feel rushed... & it was fairly quiet yet lively while I was there both times... so u can actually hear who u are talking to, unlike many restaurants (& coffee shops). Shout out to the great new GM & both bartenders who were very patient with this self proclaimed high interest low liquor knowledge gal

Ambiance is kind of like a dive bar. Food was not the best and a bit overpriced. I tried the beef barbacoa tacos and pulled pork sandwich. The taco was okay, but the pulled pork was pretty dry even with the bbq sauce. Ordered an Old Fashioned drink with my meal. I always judge a bar by how they make the traditional drinks like Old Fashioned, mojitos, and Long Island ice tea to name a few. It was bad. Not sure how they got it bad. Too much bitters? Cheap alcohol? I don't know. The "highlight" of my night was an interaction with the bartender lady. After all the eating, my friends and I stuck around outside to chat. I decided to go back in to grab a beer. The Yakima Blend IPA caught my attention so I asked for that. I pay $13 for it. Bartender gives me my cash change. I leave a $5 bill as tip (on a $13 beer!). She takes it and asks, "That's it?" Too good for a 40% tip? My company keeps an unofficial list of must-try and stay-away-from hotels and restaurants near our offices in various states. I had never been to this bar but my friend had done some work events here. She got a glass of her usual Pinot Grigio as wine is all she drinks. We had a nice time chatting and she then wanted a second glass of wine. I too, had a second cocktail. The bartender brought Chardonnay to her and then realized it was not the wine she originally had. She asked my friend if she wanted to drink it or if she would like the Pinot Grigio. My friend kindly said, "I prefer the Pinot". Although the bartender didn't appear upset, she abruptly threw the wine into the sink, possibly irritated. She then went out of sight to the kitchen where she was pouring Costco boxed wine. I thought this was odd that they would have Costco boxed wine and that it was stored and poured in the kitchen, being that this was a bar. I have lived in many states and this is something that I have never seen done, but all states have different rules about liquor and wine. Shortly into the second glass of wine, my friend's behavior began changing. She was about 1/3 into the glass, and she suddenly seemed to become heavily sedated, as if she had been drugged. Her speech was very slurred and it seemed her motor skills were very impaired. I had never seen her like this. She can easily handle a bottle of wine, as can I, without incident. We didn't engage much with anyone except a man who came in to get his missing phone. He was mostly talking to the bartender but we briefly chatted with him. People came in and out of the bar with costumes and spoke to the bartender and ordered drinks, to the left of my friend's seat. Nothing appeared to be out of order except my friend appeared very impaired. She went downhill quickly only partially through that second glass of wine. My friend was very incoherent at this point and she became paranoid which is totally out of character for her. She thought the bartender and man next to her were laughing at her. She actually started crying saying, "They're laughing at me. They're laughing at me". I assured her they were not. I then encouraged me friend to get up and we would go use the bathroom. She had apparently lost all control of her legs because when she got up from the seat she instantly collapsed to the floor like a rag doll. It was shocking. I had to help her up from the floor and into the restroom. To my utter shock she did not even recognize me saying, "Who are you? Where's bunny? You're not bunny!". It was bizarre. I was very concerned since I have never seen her like this and we are both seasoned and regular nightly wine drinkers for many years. Many concerned patrons came up to me to try to help. When we finally came out of the bathroom I said to the bartender, "I have never seen my friend like this. I think she may have been drugged. This doesn't make sense." The bartender seemed quite dismissive and replied, "Oh no, I just gave her a heavy pour." Yes, the wine glass did appear more full than a standard pour but my friend again is a veteran drinker and I have seen her drink two or even three glasses of wine and be completely fine. I thought it was interesting that the bartender would say such a thing and so quickly dismiss my suspicion. I also found it odd that she had thrown the wine abruptly into the sink. I also find it suspect that the wine is not being held behind the bar where customers can watch it being poured. Instead it is poured in another room out of sight. While I have no proof and did not witness any foul play I am sure that somebody slipped something into my friend's drink. She was not drunk. She appeared to be drugged. Was it a patron? The man who came back for his phone? Or another partygoer in a costume? That may be possible I suppose but her wine glass was within my view the entire time and I saw nothing suspect. Either way, I believe she was drugged. Again, I have NEVER seen my friend like this. She has NO memory of that night. All of that from a glass and a half of wine? I don't think so. Either way, I cannot recommend this establishment and I will never return based on this experience. It was a very dark experience and I regret ever going out that night. This situation has created huge tension between her husband and I since I am the one who returned her home in this condition. And this tension seems to have caused a rift in our relationship as well. I have reached out to her multiple times and no response. This event not only traumatized her but it traumatized her husband, myself, and my husband as well. It appears to have caused a rift in all of our relationships. It is hard to believe that someone would do such a horrible thing. Apparently I have run out of characters but I am not quite done. I have uploaded and image which is a screen shot of the rest of the story of the incident.

And with the view by the patio, how can it not be the most perfect setting to enjoy my birthday dinner. We just stuck with water since it was on the warmer side today. We just went straight in for dinner. As much as the appetizers sounded lovely, I was ready for the main event. So for dinner tonight I ordered the charboiled salmon with seasonal veggies in place of the salad. My salmon was plated beautifully with nice char marks on it. The veggies were a variety of squash and were sautéed nicely. And you can tell visually that they were seasoned nicely with spices and herbs. I dug right into my salmon. My first couple bites were delicious. I did spread some of the sun dried tomato butter on my salmon. The butter was fantastic! It added a nice flavor element to the salmon. After I ate about a a fourth of my salmon, I noticed that it was not cooked all the way through in the middle. With my new kidney, I can't have rare or undercooked fish. My immune system can't handle a parasite if the fish were to potentially contain any. I shouldn't have assumed that it was going to be cooked all the way since our server didn't ask how well I wanted it cooked. I did have to send it back and have another one remade. While my new fish was being prepared, my server gave me a small salad plate to transfer my veggies to. I got to work on them so I wasn't staring at my family eat. The veggies were cooked perfectly. They weren't overly soft or still raw. It had a nice bite to them while still being tender. Unfortunately, they were overly seasoned and was on the saltier side. I was hungry so I polished them off. But I did have to drink a good amount of water to help with the saltiness. Thank goodness the portion was on the daintier side. As hungry as I was, it would have been bad if it was a bigger portion. All that salt would not be good on my new kidney. My second round of salmon came out. Was it as pretty as my first plate, no but it will do. I'm sure they set the flame on high, let it sit on the grill for a while and then flipped it to cook the other side. I have cooked salmon well done plenty of times and have it come out tender. When you cook for a living, having cooking times for your dishes should be down to a science in your kitchen. Unfortunately, the salmon was super dry and flavorless. As hungry as I was, I ate it. The butter did help with the dryness of the salmon. But I shouldn't have to rely on butter to make the dish edible. For my birthday, I got a free dessert. I chose the gluten free carrot cake. My cousin eats a gluten free diet so I thought this cake would be perfect for all of us. I enjoyed the cake very much! The cake was moist. The spices in the cake were fragrant and very noticeable in each bite. I loved the frosting on the cake. Since the cake wasn't overly sweet, the frosting added a nice sweetness to it. I enjoyed the cake very much! Our server did a mid job. There were times when she would be gone for long periods of time and we had to wait for her. The patio was perfect with its stunning view. Dinner was ok but dessert was fabulous. Overall it was a decent experience. I do look forward to coming back and enjoying the outdoor patio with my husband for a date night. I just know now to make sure I vocalize everything to my server so I don't end up with dry salmon again. I do want to come back and have a better experience.
