Went to lunch here on a weekday. There were a couple other guests seated in the restaurant. The space is pretty small with maybe seating for 30ish people. I imagine it gets pretty loud if every table is occupied. My husband ordered a burrito and I got a couple of taco. The food was great but would have been better with salsa. Our server never told us about the salsa bar so we didn't know. (I found out by reading another review on Yelp) Our server was nice and the food came out quick, but they are a little pricey for chips and queso. I expected more than a styrofoam bowl of queso for $12. We would probably go back for lunch, but not really a good date night spot. No privacy at your table if there is someone seated at the table right next to you. PS the cocktail I got was very tasty as well! read more

We visited this place right after it opened a year or so ago. It was fantastic. We went back for the first time since then a few days ago. While the food was as good as it was a year ago, the service was terrible. It has severely declined. We were seated then it took 15 minutes for a server to visit our table! We were thirsty and starving. The table next to us was seated after us and not only was visited before we were, they were served before us. When we were finally visited by a server, we immediately ordered chips and queso, as did the table next to us. Theirs arrived in about 5 mins. Ours was ANOTHER 15 MINUTES and we had to ask for it a second time and the server told us he didn't bring them out, the kitchen did. Once the food and drinks finally arrived, they were as good as they were before. But do you think we were ever visited again? Nope. Our waters empty, margaritas empty, etc... my wife asked for onions and cilantro for her taco, that took over 10 minutes to come out so her taco was cold and the rest of our party was almost done with their food. Finally when it was time to leave, I let the server know that we would have ordered more drinks and could have used water. All he could say before turning and walking away was "it was busy". The server named "Dom" should be left as a dish washer and not a server. He's not cut out for that job. Although it was busy, he moved like a sloth and never once checked on us. It's hard to believe this restaurant is part of the same family brand as the other "Coa" locations. I know it just recently opened and there are always kinks to work out, but at this point, you'd be better off grabbing a taco/Mexican food almost anywhere else. I ordered the al pastor and carne asada tacos with a side of guacamole. The al pastor was nearly stewed, which gave it an odd texture, and the tortillas didn't seem fully cooked--they were rubbery rather than warm and pliable. My margarita was overly sweet; I ended up asking for a larger glass just to add water and make it drinkable. The setup is cafeteria-style, which can work well--but only if the food elevates the experience. Unfortunately, it didn't quite get there this time. read more

We have now eaten at Coa Cantina 4 times since they opened. What a great addition to our neighborhood. Food is great. Guacamole is always fresh. Chips are always crispy and just the right amount of salt and the salsa bar is fantastic esp the tomatillo salsa. We love the Al Pastor quesadilla esp when the pineapple really shines through. Drinks are yummy esp the spicy margarita with the Tajin rim. Have tried ALL the tacos and my favorite is the shrimp taco. Best yet is service has always been exceptional and our food comes out very fast. Absolutely love that we can walk or bike here. Consider us big fans! read more

The tacos were a little bland but the mango habanero salsa helped, and the chips were cold (gotta have warm tortilla chips). My wife and I recently went there for a quick bite to eat, which was quick. As it's a wait and serve yourself seating, we quickly trolled over a couple leaving a table and quickly sat down, so nobody would take it. Took about 3 to 5 minutes for the wait staff to clear and clean the table while we waited we looked at the menu and began ordering. Typically an order of an appetizer that comes out first but this time it came out with our meal. I ordered a chicken burrito and we had waffles and chips for dinner, my wife ordered a shrimp and a fish taco, a street taco. Nothing about this meal was amazing enough that I would go back for, I felt like my burrito was something I could order from Costco. The vibe of this place was hurry and hurry out, and I felt really bad for the wait staff because they were trying their best to keep on top of things. The amount of money that we spent for $60 for two people was outrageous and if I were to go somewhere of this caliber, I would expect Barbacoa or Barrio service for food. read more

I know they are just getting going, so i hate to flame them, but wow. Ordered chips and queso, side salsa and side quac, asada and carnitas tacos, side of rice and side of beans and a carne asada burrito. plus top shelf margs. On the positive side Space is cute, they moved the ice cream shop to the back where lemon tree used to be. Coa occupies the front space now. --margs were good --the burrito was also passable, not really a good value, i guess ok. Now for the bad --They have a salsa bar, the habanero salsa wasn't very spicy and was a bit of a disappointment. --The tortillas for the tacos were undercooked and kinda reminded me of polenta. Cold and a weird texture and just flaccid. The meat on the tacos was cold and greasy not much flavor and were topped with about a teaspoon of cabbage. Odd --Rice and beans were both cold. I ate one bite of each. Server didn't ask if they were ok. --I got up to use the restroom, came back and the tacos and burrito were there, server seemed shocked that we wanted the chips and dips first so we just cancelled. Wasn't planning on having them for dessert. Not sure if they are good or not. --4 margs, 2 crappy tacos and a burrito was $100 with tip, ouch. Barber valley desperately needs restaurants, i had high hopes for coa cantina but very disappointing. I hope they get it together. First off, I love any where you can sit outside! I love the building, all the outside seating of the restaurants around it and the VIBE! Its so beautifully decorated and really is such a nice inviting space. Everyone who worked there is lovely and the food was insane! Chips and salsa, delish! I loved the green salsa! Had a burrito with carne asada, but loved the tacos the best - al pastor was incredible. I live in California and we haven't had good mexican food when we go to Boise to visit my daughter, and we finally found our place! read more

My cousin got us dinner to go so I can't comment on the ambiance or service but the food was amazing! I had the chicken burrito and the chicken was white meat (which I prefer) and delicious! The guac and sides of salsa were amazing! This will be my go to for Mexican food!!! read more

We tried this place for lunch the other day. I have to say, I felt disappointed. The inside doesn't feel super inviting, the tables wobble horribly. The food was so-so. No chips and salsa to start, then we had some Nachos with carne asada. They weren't great and we were given paper plates to eat off of with no utensils. When one of our party asked for utensils, we got plastic!?!? I would think a place like this with the Barbacoa lineage could afford plates and actual silverware. The tacos were just ok. Very plain, and of course served on a metal pan (seems to be the trendy thing) Nothing offered with them, guacamole, sour cream, etc. in order to get any salsa you have to serve yourself like a fast food restaurant. I expected more from what I've seen posted, but it was a letdown. For the price you'd think atmosphere and service would be much better. Not going back anytime soon... read more

We had a party of six and had a horrible dining experience! The food, tacos, burritos, were mediocre at best. We were sitting at a table near the main entrance and they kept leaving the doors open letting in the cold air and breeze. Management claimed it was to keep the smoke out ?? After complaining for a 1/2 hour, they finally closed the doors. I don't see how this restaurant can make it. One thing for sure...we will never go back. read more

We had high expectations that this place would be good since they are linked to Barbacoa. Food is very average. Carne Asada tacos had no flavor. Guacamole had no flavor. No one in our group thought the food was good. Very expensive for the quality. Paid $70 with tip for 5 tacos, guac and kids taco meal. read more

This is a nice location and the servers were very pleasant and efficient. But the tacos were awful. One sorrowful little corn tortilla per taco with white and dry chicken cubes and white cabbage tasted as mediocre as they looked. Salsa was available at a bar, and that was the only thing that gave the tacos any moisture and flavor. The dishes need to be fresher, more moist, with more interesting flavors, and more visually appealing. The room was quirky as are all the restaurants in this group, but it was peculiar to have three huge tv screens in a small area. This is not supposed to be a sports bar. I hope they improve the food and ditch the huge tv monitors, and, for now, I do not have any desire to go back. read more

Wow! Barbacoa should be embarrassed to be associated with this place. 1/2 as good as Taco Bell and 4X times the price. I have no problem paying for quality food and ingredients but when I get served what looked and tasted like boiled inexpensive cuts of scrap beef and charged like it was filet mignon, that bothers me. If you want excellent tacos with high quality ingredients from the scratch tortillas, guacamole and real steak carne asada, go to Rosas in Garden City. read more

I absolutely loved Coa Cantina! i am a frequent customer of the other COA restaurants so i obviously had to give this a try. The staff is so friendly and the food came out so quick! perfect for a quick bite to eat or to relax and watch a game. My husband went in for super bowl Sunday and said the vibes were top notch! lots of TV's and great drinks. The tacos are a good size and they even had corn tortillas for a GF option! and a home made salsa bar. Definitely will be back! read more
