We ordered the large Sausage Roasted Garlic pizza. What a great pie, from the crust to the toppings. I can't think of a place I have been to for quite some time that was better. One small item, the plate were cold, so we just used them for crumb catching. Hot pizza on cold plates isn't ideal. We'll be back for sure. read more

It's no surprise to me that Spitfire announced this week they are closing. What had started out as a great pizza place when they opened slowly went downhill. Yet I wanted to experience their take on Detroit pizza one last time before they lock the doors for good. Yesterday, I called to order a Detroiter pizza, my go-to pie since they opened, for takeout. The woman who answered the phone asked to put me on hold for a "short wait." Ten minutes later I was still on hold and hung up. Today, I decided to try again. I called at around the same time, 4:30 p.m., which normally has not been a busy time there before the dinner rush starts. This time, I was told to call back. What? So I went online and ordered there for pickup. I got an email back immediately, saying my order had been submitted but that it wasn't confirmed until I got a second email with my pickup time. More than an hour later, I'm still waiting for that second email. What a horrible operation they've become. Their pizza was excellent in the beginning and I didn't mind driving across town to a convenient location near the airport to pick up one of their pizzas. But as their quality slipped, I found myself going there less and less. Today's failure will be the last time I try before they close forever. All I have is the memories from better days. read more

Received a friendly greeting when I walked inside and ordered the Korean BBQ PIZZA - Detroit style. As the only customer I thought the food would be ready soon. The pizza took 25 minutes but finally came. Deep dish pizza was loaded with toppings. BBQ pork, jalapeños, peppers, and pineapple with a unique sauce. I have been looking for a pizza place to try since moving to Boise and I finally decided on Spitfire. I planned on just trying the Detroit-style pizza, but after looking at pictures and reviews, I decided on giving the calzone a go too. I picked them up and the boxes were hot, and they smelled amazing in the car, but when I finally got home and got the first bite - both were really disappointing. The calzone had a lot of crust and it wasn't crunchy at all. The bottom was super soggy. I know perhaps the steam could cause that from the ride home, so I did pop it in the oven to reheat a bit, unfortunately no improvement. Honestly, I suppose I would have even accepted a soggy crust if the inside was full of goodness, but there was such a small amount of ricotta cheese, I actually had to look for it. The meatball tasted old and the pepperoni didn't taste like a quality pepperoni but maybe Hormel brand. Despite being disappointed by the calzone, I decided to try the Detroit-style with a clean slate. Unfortunately, it was also very underwhelming. The outer edges didn't have that crispy, salty cheesy crust that great Detroit pizza has, and the inside of the pizza dough was nearly raw. Again, the toppings were definitely not of high quality. I thought for sure it would match Jet's (a franchise Detroit-style pizza place in the midwest), but Jet's put this place to shame. Not a good start to the Boise pizza scene. read more

Delicious every time we go in. It seems that I'm on the Vista-side-of-town a couple of times a year. One of our go-to's is Spitfire. The Good - the food Cheesy bread sticks. Wow, these are delicious. Olive oil, garlic goodness, just the right amount of cheese make these a great appetizer. If you're not too hungry, an order is a meal. Two of us snacked on these this week and weren't sure we even needed to orde pizza... but we did. The beer selection is always good in my estimation. It's not a huge selection, but they have a nice variety. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The Meh - Inside is nice enough. It's clean, functional and organized. Good use of the space and TVs around for sports likely make the Spitfire a good local's place. The Bad - nothing to report here. read more

I ordered The Detroiter ($18) - Smoked pepperoni under cheese, natural casing pepperoni on top. This is the small size. There's also a larger size available for $28. This was my first time trying the pizza, I was doing take-out, and didn't plan to eat the pizza in one sitting, so I asked that they only put the pizza sauce on top (as is traditional with Detroit style pizza) of two of the pizza squares. They sent me home with extra sauce. Spitfire is new favorite pizza!!! The crust is exceptional. The combination of the carmelized cheese, nice chew, and buttery flavor is unbeatable. The pizza sauce was nice and savory, and the pepperoni was high quality. The pizza was perfectly cooked, as evidenced by the pepperoni cups. Spitfire also offers hand tossed or thin crust pizza. They offer hand tossed Gluten - Free pizza. They have five Vegan pizza options on the menu. They offer 16 PNW craft beers, which are constantly changing. Spitfire has a nice neighborhood feel. Not sure how problem occurred but I'm pretty sure I ordered a vegan pepperoni pie and when I got home with our pizzas it was a standard pizza which was of course no use to me and which had cost me like 20 bucks. One star is for their response when I called which was basically "too bad so sad for you." Very poor customer service--it's basically Customer Service 101 to offer to replace the order. read more

Spitfire has great pizza! If you order at the restaurant, be prepared to drink a beer or two, as it takes a little while for the deep dish to cook. The pizza is always delicious. Staff is friendly. My only suggestion would be to pull the weeds out front, put up a couple signs to let customers know that they are open. Inside could use a good cleaning. Very disappointed with this place. Went there with family and friends. Ordered several pizzas, one was for my son (half cheese and half mushroom). They brought out our food but had forgotten my son's order apparently. By the time they brought his pizza we were done eating. Then they served him this garbage. Half his pizza had burnt cheese while the other half was about halfway cooked. They must have forgotten to add mushrooms and added it later. It was disgusting and inedible. We took it back to the counter and they gave us some halfassed apology but no refund for the pizza. I will never eat here again. read more

Great pizza, long wait...This one is tough. The pizza was really good. Looks like they were short staffed and the owner was doing what they could. Building wasn't super clean. We visited this restaurant in mid afternoon before catching a flight. We chose it due to proximity to airport. Yelp reviews seemed to be good but not so for Google. In a nutshell, great food but welcoming atmosphere was less than desirable. Only one employee (I'm assuming the owner) with no personality. He did, however, get our food made, and delivered to our table in a timely manner. Only three other patrons in the restaurant at the time. I would've given four stars, if there was a sign that said, " Please seat yourself and order at the register or bar." You will not get a "Hello, thank you, your welcome, what can I get you. One meatball sandwich came out 15 minutes before the other so we couldn't even eat at the same time and it was crumbled meatballs with what tasted like canned tomato sauce and hardly any cheese on them.
