Literally the best pizza I have ever had. We will definitely be back! Service was great, atmosphere was great, cozy and clean!

I would have liked to leave a good review because it looked liked a great place and had some great looking food options on the menu. Sadly the service was not very good at all. It was the first time I had been there and was not aware (until asking later after sitting around for a while) that we needed to order our food at the bar. After ordering the food started coming out pretty quickly for my friends and they were able to eat. However mine was taking a long time so we asked the waitress about it and she said she would find out. Well she did find out but never came and let us know, instead she attended to other tables and we had to go ask her again. Apparently the cook burned my food and had to start over (that would have been nice to know ahead of time because I would have asked for it in a to go box). By the time I did get my food my friends were all starting to leave so I asked the waitress for a to go box and instead of getting me one she attended to the other tables so we had to ask again for one. My friend who asked her for one the second time said the waitress didn't seem very friendly about it and more acted like it was an inconvenience. The food was good (when I finally got to eat it back at home). Some courtesy would have been nice and would have made the experience better but sadly I did not get that during my time there. read more

Nice little place out of town that has minimal employees but they are very attentive and great interaction. We went to their fries. The top in my opinion. The burger was tasty. We ordered a beer and cider on tap. One can alway count on an old movie or tv show on the big screen tv. We enjoy this restaurant. read more

Stopped by here on our way back to Boise from Idaho City. We probably won't be back. Ambiance: The restaurant was very clean with a great atmosphere. They had live music which was also a bonus. Food: My fiancé ordered the burger and I got the finger steaks. My fiancés burger was not very good. The burger was very greasy and it was pretty obvious that they used frozen burger patties. My finger steaks were overcooked/burnt and definitely not homemade. Which is unfortunate because their website states they pride themselves on "homemade creations". The sauces they served with our meals were good! The ketchup, ranch, and station sauce all seamed house made. Not sure why they cut corners on the mains. Service: Not like I remember it was in the past. It was open seating, you just order at the bar they give you a number and they bring your food to your table. No one really waited on us. Hilltop Station is truly unique and just the type of joint you'd hope to find in the middle of nowhere when you're hungry. They offer pizza, sandwiches, burgers and some excellent appetizers. The jalapeño crab dip is special and delicious. I've never had anything like it before. The owners, Tate and Eric, are truly salt of the earth. Kind, helpful, knowledgeable and generous. Their bartender, Maggie, is one of the most hilarious persons I've ever met. She is efficient and effective and always keeps the vibe fun, without exception. The food is FAR better than it should be in a kitchen of that size. The pizzas are terrific even though I feel the crusts leave something to be desired. Clunky Peak and Rosarita are my favorites but I love chicken on my pizza. Hilltop offers a great salad bar and on Wednesdays has an all you can eat pizza and salad bar that will leave you completely satisfied. They also offer live music on Wednesday which is awesome and a rarity. The atmosphere is old-timey and usually playing old movies and music in the background. It's a complete throwback and fits the overall theme. The beer selection is phenomenal. If you're looking for a Coors Light Draft, you won't find it here. These taps are ALWAYS rotating and always local. Tate's knowledge of local beer is unsurpassed. If you like an IPA, get one. Dark? Get it. You're going to be pleased and, if nothing else, appreciative of the curation of their tap handles. Joy, the kitchen manager (I assume, because she's there 100% of the times I've been there) is vocal but great at what she does. Also, the homemade mud pie is awesome. Feeds 3 at minimum. Next door is an all encompassing general store. Need a hat? You got it. Need beer? You're going to find the best selection in Idaho in the middle of nowhere. Need LIQUOR? Yep. Lottery, uh huh. General supplies? Done. Targets for shooting? Yeah, you got it. If anything, go walk around a bit. Food: 7/10 Beverage: 5/10 (Beer is AMAZING, but there's no liquor and the canned cocktails are what they are: not good). Atmosphere: 9/10 Just what I'm looking for in a diner in the side of the road. An unassuming and completely yummy joint on your way too or from Lucky Peak or for a short local adventure. Hilltop is a short distance from downtown Boise but well worth the drive which is scenic and a great opportunity to check out and relax. Raise your hand if this applies to you?! We popped in for their brunch on a Saturday. The menu is simple, straightforward and purely delicious. Sabrina was our waitress and she was nothing short of awesome. Per her recommendation I ordered a breakfast skillet with tortillas, salsa and sour cream on the side. Definitely a good recommendation from Sabrina. Very good portions and very yummy food. My husband ordered their burger of the day, with house smoked pepper jack cheese (say no more), bacon and their house made sauce. Hilltop really sets the bar and makes all of their own sauces, even all the way down to their ketchup. Impressive and kuddos to them for making a ketchup that doesn't taste like tomato paste. Their fry sauce is REALLY good. Quite possibly one of my all time favorites. Generous pours on all of their drinks and overall very affordable menu. Sabrina was kind enough to pack us up a slice of their heavenly mud pie for the road. Heavenly is an accurate depiction of their mid pie. We will definitely be back to try their long list of amazing pizza options. Update: the last half dozen times we have visited hill top, the burgers come out barely warm. The worst part is, we typically are there first there when they open and are the only diners for the first little while. With it now being a consistent issue, It's been such a turn off for us that I'm not sure we will be returning for quite some time, if at all. After a twenty mile bicycle ride from Boise, with the last four miles uphill in torrid conditions, this place was a welcome sight. But it was closed! Just for another hour and forty minutes, it turned out. The store was open, and I got some ice water and sat on the back patio in the shade and slight breeze and listened to the oldies piped to the outdoor speakers while I sipped water and ate some trail mix. It was worth the ride and the wait! The decor is rustic but very tidy and comfortable, and there were some excellent local beers on tap. A huge selection of bottled beers are also available. I chose the Sockeye Sunbeam Imperial Hazy IPA on tap, and it was delicious! The staff was very friendly, and let me charge my phone at the bar. The owner, Tate, came out to greet me and remembered me from Bittercreek. The oldies continued to waft from the speakers, and a movie featuring Clark Gable and Lana Turner played on the flat screens. Wednesday has a slightly limited menu, and the $9.99 all-you-can-eat pizza or Kahlua pork sliders with salad bar seemed like a good deal, but I asked for and got a deal on just sliders, two build-your-own with slaw, for $3. The slaw was tangy and crunchy, and the Kahlua pork was scrumptious. Musicians arrived for live music starting at 6 pm, Wendy Matson and a flutist (Allan Maslac?), and several diverse groups of people shuffled in, including a young couple and their tykes. Just as I was talking with the bartender about people's cars breaking down, a young gal came in with a seized water pump and broken fan belt. Well, she didn't bring them in, you know what I mean. She drank ice water while she waited for a tow. Then another woman in distress needed to use the phone. This happens a lot when you have a business the middle of nowhere. The man and I went there for dinner on Friday. This was our second, and probably, last time. There's no need to drag out the story... We sat immediately. We actually even got service fairly quick (you can tell by that statement that the latest time was painfully slow). Anyway, all is going smoothly when the cook walks across the doorway, toward the kitchen and scratches his head, and heads right into the kitchen to make food. Before you day, "well, maybe he washed his hands first." He didn't. I could see him from point A to point B. At no time after that did he leave the kitchen while we were there. I even told the waitress about it. Do you think he went and washed his hands? Nope. Disgusting. My original post is above. I received a message from the owner stating that they don't have any male cooks. Even more concerning is that there is a man in the kitchen, cooking, and he's not the actual cook. Wow definitely was not excepting this kind of restaurant in this neck of the woods. We arrived as they opened and Tate and his staff greeted us and made us feel very welcome. We ordered a bleu cheeseburger with a trip to the salad bar. I created my own burger with pulled pork and their Asia sauce. I love that this place does not fry food yes, that means no fries :-) Instead they have home made chips! All food is local and organic!! This will not be our last time here. We drove up to the Hilltop for dinner based on our sisters recommendation. I can say that we have driven by the restaurant plenty of times in the past. The restaurant is a very friendly place. Everybody treats you like you are part of the family. The inside feels like someone's log cabin with a bar. Nothing not to like. The menu is primarily pizza and burgers. The place has plenty of spirits available to quench your thirst. I ordered the pulled pork with fries and the wife ordered a chicken sando with fries. The pulled pork is smoked in house. The sandwich arrived and the fries and pork were cold. The other plate had cold fries as well but the chicken was at least warm. The amount of pulled pork on the sandwich was very little along with the slaw for my appetite. The pulled pork itself was nothing special. The homemade BBQ sauce was tangy and sweet. The slaw had good flavor. The chicken sando arrived with no sauce so we asked for a side of fry sauce to help. The chicken was dry unfortunately. The fries were lightly battered with good seasoning but were cold. If you are in the area, stop by. I would not go out of our way again. Cheers Always! read more

When you serve gluten free options I automatically like you. We had recently been in for appetizers and loved the cheesy bread and thought service was great. It made us so eager to come back which we did tonight for dinner. The wait for food was long. My gluten free bun was rock hard. Service was mediocre. I do appreciate that they comped the pizza that got burned and had to wait an additional 7 minutes for. The rest of the food was okay but nothing to write home about. I had been here sporadically in the past but I had not been there in a couple of years when we decided to stop in and visit friends and have a bite to eat. The menu has expanded a great deal since I was in last. The atmosphere was better than ever. The waiter (I wish I would have gotten his name) was great, no complaints there whatsoever. I ordered the Korean Street Tacos....meh. The menu said they were spicy. I found them to be anything but spicy. Aside from that they were tasty. A bit pricey for what you get....OK, ALOT pricey for what you get. My husband had the pulled pork. My husband is actually a pork expert, especially the kind that is smoked. He said the flavor was "fine", but the amount of pork on the sandwich was kind of skimpy and it was mostly coleslaw on the sandwich. I had a taste of my friends french fries and they were very good. The seasoning was good and they were cooked perfectly, I thought. In the past I have been very impressed with their pizza and this time was no different. We got a pizza to go for our boys at home and I ended up having a piece. I was left wishing I would have just ordered a pizza instead. Hilltop Station is a "last stop" kinda place right at the top of a large hill (naturally) as you make your way towards Idaho City. Built right beside a liquor store, it's the perfect place to pick up a bite, load up on firewood and whiskey, and then continue making your way towards the campsites not too much farther ahead. This is a bit out of the way for a typical pizza lover, but it's the perfect place to make that final stop before forsaking society, I mean...where else can you go? So, as always our question is: is the pizza worth it? The interior of this place is, simply put: amazing. Really cool decoration, they've done a fantastic job. Wood and iron everywhere, and old-fashioned kind of knick-knacks in choice places. A modern television set is the only break in what feels like a good ol' cabin-in-the-woods (or more of a resort lodge). On it plays the black-and-white and technicolor classics. "Lilies of the Field" played during our particular visit. We were joined by my girlfriend, and my friend Josh. We ordered a pair of pretzels, a large pepperoni, and a small "perfect pesto." The woman who took our order was really cool, the service was great. At about 10 minutes, we got our pretzels, and another 5 to 10 after that we got our pizza. Here are the results: -Pretzels- These are awesome. Doughy, but not under-cooked. Salted, but with genuine rock salt, not that cheap crap you get at a food stand. And it's not overloaded with it, either. They offer nacho cheese to dip in, and their own signature mustard. I would highly recommend these to anyone, in fact, I might even recommend the trip out for the pretzels alone. -Perfect Pesto- This is a pesto base topped with chicken, canadian bacon, bell pepper, sun-dried tomato and green onion. The flavor kinda came together like a "lite" combo pizza. Honestly? Kinda dry, and the pesto was underwhelming. Kenny mentioned the toppings gave him a reminiscence of Cup Noodle ingredients. That sounds harsh, but, I can't say it was bad, just kinda bland and forgettable. -Pepperoni- This was good. Not great. Right in the middle, where the pepperonis are "correct," and the sauce is "correct," and the crust is, "right." The crust actually might have been the most unique aspect, giving us a nice taste, but, still nothing special. All around just kind of "okay." -The Verdict- Hilltop Station has a lot of good things to offer. If we were judging them on their restaurant style and staff attitude alone, they'd be getting a perfect score. The same could be said of those pretzels. However, when we star our reviews, what we are star-ing is the pizza. In this aspect, Hilltop kind of let us down. I would love to stop here again on my way down this highway in the future, but I'd go for a pretzel and maybe try a burger before coming back for the pizza. Recommended for anyone traveling towards or from Idaho City, no matter what you get. But if it's a budgeting choice between a rack of pretzels and a pizza: you know where we stand. 3 slices out of 5 read more

Just ordered take-n-bake pizza for the first time. Fantastic! We had the Drunken Gilligan's Island, the Smokejumper, and pepperoni for the kids. All the pizzas were great, but the speciality pizzas were especially good with really unique flavor combinations. We will be back! read more

My buddy and I stopped here for some dinner after a fishing trip. When I read that they make their own pretzels I was a bit skeptical since I have seen so many pretzels in the US and they just don't cut it. By the way I'm making my own pretzels, Bavarian style and they turn out almost authentic but then I'm not a professional baker. These pretzels where very tasty and crispy on the outside, the only thing missing was the dark color, the owner told me that most guests think they are burned and therefore the lighter color :) Even I'm not a big fan of putting mustard, cheese sauce or anything else except butter on my pretzels I have to say that their homemade mustard is delicious and can soon be purchased (I'm getting my portion). I also had a the Summit Supreme Pizza, again compliments on the dough and the fresh toppings. I like that they have a 7" pizza which allows you to eat something else on the side. I'll come back for sure when I pass by, it would be great if they were on route to Bogus Basin for breakfast or dinner but I guess you can't have it all! read more

I've lost count of how many times I've eaten here but this is a great, off the beaten path, restaurant and bar, just NorthEast of Boise on Hwy 21. The soft pretzels, with house ground mustard, cheese sauce or marinara, are so good that my co-workers and I come often, just for the pretzels. They also have great burgers and specialty pizzas and soups. Nothing is deep fried here and even the French Fries are baked, which I appreciate. Wonderful home made desserts also. They have a great selection of beer on tap or in bottles, if you so desire. The wait staff is excellent and friendly. Hilltop Station is worth the short drive North East. read more

It's been a couple of years since I last reviewed the Hilltop but since we frequent it two to three times a year thought it was due for another review. We continue to be pleased by the quality of the pizza and enjoy the nice beer selection. Staff continues to be friendly and efficient. We are really happy they added burgers to mix. This last visit (Friday night) we had the Buffalo Chicken pizza. It had just enough of a kick to it. I was happy for my beer choice of the Nitro California Creaming to counter the spice. read more

I've stopped in here a couple of times now after bike rides up Hwy 21 and I must say the grub we had each time was surprisingly tasty every time. I love the pizzas that are made fresh and they always have an interesting assortment of micro brews to try too. Be careful, don't fall in love with a single micro brew, because when the keg is empty it maybe gone and may not come back, the selections seems to change frequently which keeps it all interesting. I also got to give credit to our frequent server Rosie, just the right mix of service, sass and smart azz. Keep it up Hilltop Station you got if figured out. read more

Finally realized it is quicker to get up to Hilltop from southeast Boise for a pizza and beer than head into dntn or Broadway for standard stuff. AND the pizza is really fresh and tasty. As many people have written, it's a pleasant surprise. My wife and I stopped here on our way to the springs and found the place delightful. The atmosphere was tasteful, but still had an outdoor feel to it. We had home made pretzels and pizza. The pretzel and pizza dough were obviously made at the facility and both were amazing. The pizza crust had a good crunch. If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by to have some decent food with a nice atmosphere. read more

Whoa.. So happy. Our experiences with Hilltop have always been unbelievably wonderful. Tate is a great bartender, and excellent conversationalist and the atmosphere is calming and welcoming. Every time my boyfriend and I stop in, we come across a new food "love interest" if you will- something we end up craving that brings us back. This time we had a Reuben pizza (shh it isn't on the menu ;) ) which, we had to pause to make sure it was a real; this baby had all the beauty of a well crafted Reuben along with the lovely characteristics of a pizza including ninja turtle style cheese. Beer selection small but not narrow. They have something for all drinkers (if you don't find what your looking for, you're too picky). Tonight we each had the local bourbon stout. Love it. What a wonderful place! Kid friendly and amazing service. This is our first time in and it's father's day dinner for us. I tried the root beer on tap, it's wonderful, very full bodied and not lacking in flavor. My husband is having pulled pork street tacos and they look delicious I might have to swipe a few.
