I had high hopes for Porterhouse after hearing several recommendations, and I genuinely appreciate their focus on sourcing locally. Unfortunately, our experience was pretty disappointing overall. We ordered three sandwiches to and only one -- the meatloaf sandwich -- was decent. My husband ordered the Kansas City brisket sandwich, and unfortunately ours came with just a few very thick-cut pieces of brisket that weren't very appetizing. Based on other photos/reviews, it may have been an off day, but the flavor and texture in the sandwich we received were disappointing. I ordered the Reuben, and the bread-to-meat ratio was way off (photo attached). It was mostly bread with very little filling, especially for a ~$14 sandwich. The sides were okay, but the portions overall felt pretty minimal given the pricing. I always want to support local restaurants, especially ones prioritizing local ingredients, so this was a letdown. The best sandwiches here are absolutely the hot sandwiches -- specifically the Southwesterner. If you want to try their smoked tri-tip, this is the move. Every single time I order it, I tell myself, "Okay, I'll just eat half." And every single time I fail because somehow the combination of their soft toasted bun, smoky tri-tip, salsa, and just the right amount of messiness makes you question why other sandwich places even exist. What really makes this place special though is that it still feels like an actual neighborhood butcher/deli. Hayley, the owner, is often behind the counter and genuinely knows the names and faces of regulars because there are THAT many repeat customers. They're also one of the best places around for holiday meats. Pro tip: order early for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Another great tip I got from one of their butchers was to pick your order up two days before you need it instead of fighting the crowds the day before. They've already allocated your order, so it's the exact same quality -- but way less stress and waiting. And honestly? Their holiday sides deserve their own review. When the red skin mashed potatoes come out for the holidays, I genuinely wonder why anyone makes mashed potatoes from scratch anymore. And the gravy? Dangerous. Enjoyed a lunch on a Friday. It was a busy hour and the line was to the door. Ordered a half Italian sandwich and chicken noodle soup. Both were fresh and delicious. This was a miss for me! My husband and I found this place on Yelp after hiking the Greenbelt nearby. I was excited to see a Rueben on the menu made with pastrami since I don't care for corn beef. This isn't the classics Rueben with sauerkraut. They use a grainy mustard instead. That was the miss for me. The mustard was off putting and the pastrami was gristly and tough. My husband ordered the turkey sandwich (gobbler) and it was just okay (I took a bite). Another disappointing thing is that this place doesn't provide bathrooms. You actually have to go to the Chevron across the parking lot. On a positive note the service was friendly and the location is nice (no Riverside seating like was mentioned but this little shopping center is charming and close to the Greenbelt. I typically order online and pay in advance of pickup. The online ordering software works well, but my orders are frequently packaged with errors. Ex: side items missing, the wrong dessert bar put in the bag, order not ready even 30 minutes after promised... Today, Porterhouse made it right for me - by listening to my history of issues. Best crew in town!! Porterhouse is an Eagle gem! I stopped to pick-up a sandwich and check out the various salads, sandwiches and dessert choices. The sandwiches are freshly made to order and they are delicious! Porterhouse is popular and normally pretty busy. I stopped in when they opened at 10 am and was quickly able to get what I needed. I ordered the Kansas City Brisket BBQ Sandwich "Our slow-smoked tender beef brisket loaded up with our special BBQ sauce and sliced onion" and loved each flavorful bite. The potato salad was excellent and had that taste of home! I'm excited to go back because they have quite a few other sandwiches I definitely need to try. Stopped in on a random whim and wow I was very impressed! The Ruben here is delicious. They have various pasta salad to choose from to go with the sandwich. Can drink a beer with it as well. They had lots of meat options and a meat counter you can select a cut and take home to grill up yourself. The young man who made our sandwich's was very nice and was in culinary school! This was by far the best food we had on our recent road trip, which I mean in full compliment. The inside is small, only about 8 at a big shared table in the center, I'd imagine once it warms up a bit the outdoor seating would come in handy. We stumbled onto Porterhouse after shopping in the Roost Gift & Home Collection shop within the North Channel Center in Eagle. Detected the unmistakeable smell of a smoker in the vicinity; lo and behold, the aroma led right to Porterhouse in the same center. Being a huge fan of smoked meats, we had to pop in for lunch. As you walk in the door it becomes obvious that Porterhouse is primarily a meat & high-quality grocery market with the option of enjoying a great lunch. A light handful of high-top tables and chairs (sorry, I don't recall whether there were seats in front - but there are plenty of places to sit around the center itself). The interior of Porterhouse is warm and welcoming. Plenty of hands working behind the clean refrigerated deli cases. To the immediate right of the deli cases lie the beautiful butchered goods and their dedicated personnel. Directly across from the deli cases the various "market goods" coolers and freezers are located. The dining area rests in-between both areas. It is small for a dining area, but a great place for viewing. The deli menu is limited, but the choices are varied and impressive. Wife's choice today was the Albacore Tuna Melt: Housemade Albacore tuna salad with provolone and pepperoncini peppers, grilled on sourdough. It comes with the housemade potato salad. She really enjoyed the quality of ingredients used. From the "BBQ Sandwiches" menu, I ordered the Kansas City Brisket sammie: slow smoked tender beef brisket loaded up with their special BBQ sauce and sliced onion. The BBQ sandwiches come with the potato salad as well as the BBQ beans (both housemade). To be honest, I have had brisket that was a bit higher in moisture content - not that it did not taste really good, because it was. My first thought is that it may have been sliced earlier, then reheated for the order (just an unsubstantiated guess). Their BBQ sauce was a little on the sweet side, but it actually helped the brisket. The sandwich roll held together nicely. For me, the best part was the housemade potato salad. Just slightly on the mustardy side - my favorite direction. We both enjoyed the tater salad enough that we took home a container after lunch. The BBQ beans were very tasty if not a little sweet. Nothing wrong with that, but in combination with the similar BBQ sauce on the sandwich just went a bit sweet. All really good though, make no mistake about it. We looked through their extensive "grocery" cases after lunch - wonderful items can be had within. Many different housemade sausages, salads, entrees, etc. We snagged a couple of things to take home. Of course with a name like Porterhouse, as expected, the stars of the show here are the fresh meat and seafood selections available. While enjoying our lunch it was possible for us to observe many customers arrive and receive excellent service from everyone on the staff here. Quality throughout. I really wish it were possible to select 1/2 stars within the Yelp reviewing process - Porterhouse is easily at least a 4.5 in my opinion. Could not in this one visit assign a 5-star, primarily on the basis of the brisket. That in itself would not prevent us from returning for another great lunch. read more

A specialty and meat/fish market that has a great menu as a takeout restaurant. My personal passion is their Reuben sandwich and baked bean side. Perfectionists will tell me that this sandwich is not a REAL one because it uses pastrami instead of corned beef. It also uses stone ground mustard instead of Russian dressing. To those I say, so don't eat it. It is just a delicious meal, and you can eat vastly inferior sandwiches all over the Treasure Valley, regardless of the name. This is really good stuff. I stopped in today for lunch and was nicely awarded. I got a warm Parmesan chicken breast and some potato salad for lunch. Both tasted great and I found a wonderful selection of local meats to BBQ, a great deli for sandwiches, and wonderful service. A couple days ago I got the best damn Reuben I've ever had. Served piping hot and generously packed with the goods, I devoured the entire beast in 10 minutes. Housemade pastrami with Jarlsberg swiss, thousand island dressing, Guiness mustard and pickled red onion grilled on rye. Nothing beats that. I've also tried their Seasonal Berry Pecan salad that's absolutely heavenly. Fresh spring greens with the sweetest roasted candied pecans, berries, chevre goat cheese (lots of it!) and chicken breast all drizzled in a delicious, tart raspberry vinaigrette.
