I hate leaving negative reviews, even more so for local restaurants especially at this time. But my experience at CK was so unfortunate...I gotta share. For your sake. Located in the quiet shops off Entertainment, CK Hawaiian BBQ touts they have the best Hawaiian food in Boise. I think there is potential but they need an entire makeover, from the space to the recipes. For one, the restaurant was not clean. The tables were grimy and the floor was oddly sticky. It felt like the place hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time. I ordered the Kalua Park Plate (savory pork with (or without) cabbage) with a side of macaroni and gravy ($8.45 for small), my husband the Chicken Katso also with a side of macaroni and gravy (panko breaded chicken breast, $9.55). We decided to take our food home. The second I opened the boxes, I was unimpressed. I'll spare you my very descriptive and unappetizing statement (something about the remarkable resemblance to wet cat food), but to be blunt, I was appalled. It was soggy mess of a few pieces of pork with way to much cabbage. I took one small bite and couldn't stomach anymore. Even my husband exclaimed "what the actual f***." The rest of the food wasn't the worst. The chicken katsu was breaded good but I was like where tf is the katsu sauce?! It wasn't anything special at all. At least it was edible. The macaroni salad was okay. It didn't taste very fresh, probably an old batch. I'm no Hawaiian food expert and based off their menu I got the impression that they're not aimed at providing traditional Hawaiian fare, but more so "inspired" fare. However, regardless of the origin of the food the fact remained that what I received tonight was terrible. Two stars, because the employees were very nice. And were very accommodating when we changed from dine-in to take-out.

Zero if I could .. people spend their hard earned money on establishments like these only to receive wrong orders , or a completely different order. Do better yeah ? Your job isn't difficult.

SUCH good, authentic food with great portions. I got a large Hawaiian plate. They gave me 4 large pieces of chicken and more than enough sides. Highly recommend.

Teri chicken and katsu chicken is the best combo over.

awesome food. Always good and fast service. Could use some music. Hawaiian music would be nice. Love it all though the menus is amazing.

I would have been better satisfied by tossing $30 into the wind than I was eating this meal. Put simply, I cannot think of a time in my entire life, that I have had worse food. Let's start with the positives: The menu was easy to understand and read. The gentleman who took our order was friendly, informative, and efficient in taking and serving our order. The white rice met expectations. I have to admit. I was excited about finding this place. I was looking forward to eating some Kalua Pork. When I first opened my take out container I was a bit confused. The pork had texture of saw dust mixed among cabbage?--I assume it was cabbage, it had neither the taste or texture of cabbage. The pork was also unlike anything I had ever seen, it literally had the consistency of wet saw dust, no long pulling apart pork fibers, the meat was shredded so finely it was as if it was blended (that is with a blender). I can't explain it. I took two bites. It lacked flavor, it had a weird consistency, it was just awful. The kimchi was probably made that morning. Which if you know kimchi is a bad thing. Kimchi develops its flavors over a period of time and the cabbage softens a little. This cabbage was hard with a bland flavor. This was the first time I had ever had flavorless kimchi; quite the achievement, although not one anyone ought to appreciate. It did come with a tiny bit of white rice so I was able to eat that. Happy to report, the rice was alright. My wife enjoyed her tiny portion of Korean shortribs. For whatever reason, they gave her a double-portion of the flavorless kimchi, she couldn't eat it. It was terrible. I was going to chalk all this up as a learning experience and simply never return; I was annoyed that this terrible lunch for two cost over $30 (food + drinks), but I was prepared to simply trash the food and move on. My wife on the other hand wanted them to know of the sub-par dishes. Their response, "That's the way it is, the Kalua Pork is very popular." Ah, I'm guessing their location next to a movie theatre gives them a good stream of one time customers like us. If you're ever forced to eat at this place, may I suggest you stick with the white rice...

I've been going to this establishment since I was a child, my family has catered many of our gatherings with CK. It's hands down the most authentic Hawaiian food in Boise. Loved amongst me and all my friends and family. Will continue to recommend to everyone.

General's chicken with sweet potato fries and fried rice.

Ordered delivery from CK hawaiian BBQ. My first impression was that the menu doesn't represent traditional hawaiian food but still had many great sounding options. Delivery time was a little long but nothing unusual. I tried 3 sides and 3 different meats. The short ribs were by favorite among the meats and the general's chicken was the least enjoyable as the sauce was very thick and generally tasted like store quality. Sweet potato fries were not crispy at all but were surprisingly not bad despite that. Fried rice was unimpressive and a bit bland. Overall it's a spot worth trying but the food alone is just okay.

Fried Mahi-Mahi & Kalua Pork

Broke da mouth, so ono. The only Hawaiian food place in the valley worth eating at. They do it good here.

I'll give it another try because I love Hawaiian bbq and plate lunches, but I didn't love the loco moco here. Now, it's never a super appetizing meal, but the chunky gravy on this one put me off pretty bad. The rice and eggs were cooked well, and the gravy actually tasted fine, but the hamburger patties were bland. The restaurant is comfortable and clean, and the service was good. I'm not sure if this is normal, but it took about 20 mins before my food was ready. Great selection of Hawaiian Sun drinks!

Mo' Bettahs Hawaiian Style Food - Mini teriyaki chicken with rice and mac salad

Mo Bettah recently took over the old Del Taco location so I was eagerly looking to find out who the…read morelate night meals location would be. So I gave Mo B a shot. I have to say the time to order fulfillment. Was quite good. It was quick. The portion size for chicken, rice and salad were generous so I was happy with that. I asked for teriyaki sauce on the side and got pre-packaged sauce but I thought the taste of the sauce was quite underwhelming. I did appreciate the sealed containers so no dripping in the box or on my. The chicken portion was really good. I definitely had enough that I could share with anything needed to and I think we both would be happy with our portion. I have to say the flavor of the chicken, although grilled completely, was again underwhelming. I thought chicken was a bit dry even though I did ask for sauce on the aside. There is a competitor to Mo Betta at Green Acres that I think does better job with flavor of chicken and mac salad. I used the drive up service rather than inside seating which does look bright and inviting Would I try again? I might but not in a hurry at this point.

Today though, I wanted it all so I made my way in for lunch. There were two gentleman behind the counter that helped me. The first gentleman gave me a nice helping of mac salad and rice. The second gentleman had to deal with my ditziness. I haven't eaten there for so long so the portion of chicken he was giving me looked a lot! I had him reassure me a couple times that it was a mini portion I was getting. The poor guy reassured me several times. It was so much food! He drizzled teriyaki sauce all over my chicken and boy did it look good! I couldn't resist and ate a majority of my mac salad first. I missed that mac salad! What I love most about this chicken is that it's grilled. It has char marks on it with dark burnt pieces to it. I slapped some Sriracha sauce on it. Add that saucy, spicy piece of chicken with a little bit of steamed rice..... it's the perfect bite. I was able to eat 2 chunks of the chicken out of the 6. I had so much food left over which I ended having for dinner. It's such a bummer that the 2 locations I know of are so far from me. I would eat here more often if I could. The food is so good. The portions are massive. The mac salad is tasty! And the staff is always so nice. I'm happy I got to have lunch here today. I'll have to plan on coming back sooner than later, especially for the mac salad.

Their steamed vegetables are the most delicious and unique I've ever tasted. I think they add a special seasoning, but it's perfectly balanced. I usually stick to a vegetable-heavy meal and skip the macaroni salad. The Katsu chicken plate with katsu sauce is a favorite of mine, and their tempura 2-piece shrimp is tasty and reasonably priced. On my first visit, I tried the best-seller and was blown away by how good it was. I ordered the tossed salad with raspberry vinegar dressing, Teri sauce cup, and spicy mayo sauce cup. I love that they serve your food on a bed of fresh coleslaw or cabbage, which is my favorite vegetable. They did this with the two-piece shrimp as well. I highly recommend downloading the app because you can earn rewards quickly. And finally, the staff is very friendly and helpful. This is my go-to spot when I'm craving delicious, unique food that I can't make at home. Oh, the left overs heat up really nice on some parchment paper in the oven at 350°F 10 minutes

But when you order a Keiki plate for your six-year-old.. and get huge pieces of chicken that are not able to be eaten easily from the go box, it's kind of an issue. It would be really nice if they realized that when they were making this type of box that's a kids meal, the food needs to be bite-sized, cut up appropriately for a child to eat. That's all. Other than that, it was great!

Review #18 for 2022…read more My brother and I just happened upon this place as we were walking around downtown. We saw a truck parked on the side of the road that said, "Kanak Kitchen," so we looked it up on Google Maps and realized it was just around the corner. As Hawaii boys we needed to try it out. Kanak Kitchen is located on the fourth floor of an office building, so if you don't know that it's there, it's easy to miss. I imagine it's mostly just the workers in that building that frequent Kanak Kitchen, but I'd love to see more people from all around try this place. I'd call Kanak Kitchen a fusion of foods from Hawaii. We got poke nachos, which had a good amount of poke and chips with cheese. The quantities were proportional, and it came with some salsa too. We also tried a plate with kalbi short ribs, chicken katsu, Asian slaw, and coconut rice. Coconut rice is not typical in Hawaii, but it was very good as a support for savory foods. The chicken katsu was crispy and good. The kalbi was also good, but we're not used to it having a vinegar flavor. I'd like it a little more well done as it was kinda chewy, but still good overall. There's lots of seating in the restaurant, and there's also a quick serve kiosk on the first floor. Kanak Kitchen does catering too, but we haven't been able to try it yet. The owner Mike is nice, and we look forward to going back to try other foods too!

As a vegetarian, Hawaiian restaurants scare me. They're normally all about pork products--it's just…read morethe cultural preference. That's great, but I am just not into a pig roast or a slab of spam. Kanak Kitchen, though, is totally vegetarian-friendly and has more options than almost anywhere in town. They offer tofu for almost every entree as a protein choice, and if you ask for something meatless they're very accommodating. I love their tofu katsu, which is crispy fried tofu. It's available in a rice bowl, in their Asian burrito, and on a sandwich. The tofu is best in their Hawaiian tacos. For $6, you get two tofu tacos with Asian slaw and cotija cheese (I nixed the Sriacha sauce because I'm a wimp). The tofu is perfectly crispy and light and pairs with the vinegar and salt in the slaw and the creaminess of the cheese and creates a perfect taco. Most meals come with a side--salad, chips, soup, or their amazing cheesy tots. Let's be real, if you're an Idahoan, you're going for the tots. They're covered with gooey cheese, salty, and fried perfectly. If you want to keep it lighter, grab a salad. They have Asian, Ceasar, chicken bacon, luau, spinach bacon, and shrimp options. I asked for the Asian salad, which normally comes with chicken, but with tofu instead, and they agreed without a second question. I always appreciate service that is willing to meet a reasonable request with a yes. If you have room in your stomach, try a soup. They're house-made and phenomenal. I've tried the three-bean and the potato, and both were rich, creamy, and popped with flavor. Other sides include elotes, Hawaiian macaroni, potato, and a fruit medley. All are good but their kimchi is amazing and a unique option that isn't overly heavy. The desserts are amazing too. All of them have creative Hawaiian twists on a classic. Two thumbs up on the bread pudding, but the pineapple upside-down cake is my favorite. Prices are totally reasonable--around $9 for a hot sandwich with a side, or their enormous burrito, or a burger loaded with toppings. You definitely get your money's worth and will leave with a doggie bag too. The owner is an absolutely wonderful man. He also hires immigrants in the community, which I commend as a means of helping extend our Boise niceness to people from outside the valley. I will be back here. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe tonight. Once you try the food, you will too. There's nothing like it in Boise.
