I started my search back in March 2025 when visiting a Home & Garden show at Cal Expo. After speaking with a few reps at vendor tables and looking over the program book, I reached out to 7 landscape companies post show to attain proposals. 3 provided proposals but never followed up, 1 said they'd only consider submitting a proposal if the project was $50k or more (I have a smaller yard and, of course, a budget), 2 never replied to my "Contact Us" outreach from their website and then Gary and I connected. He and I met three times to discuss my initial ideas then had follow up communication via email and text. He has a great energy about him and offered some good suggestions to supplement my ideas; he's also a classy guy, offering landscaping services for over 30 years so he knows his stuff. His crew installed all the plumbing and irrigation for new sod, a small flower bed, plants and trees, a pool equipment fence and a fun 3-hole putting green. The crowning project was Gary's team took two sections of our back fence that faces an open field and created drop down tables from the top of the fence, so cool! The crew cut the top half of fence horizontally then added hinges and sliding locks to allow the top portion of the fence to drop down. Gary then suggested installing small posts to the top of the fence to act as table legs that conveniently fall into place when the top of the fence is opened. Now hubby and I can choose either fence to drop down and enjoy a wide open view. I would have included a photo but wasps seemed to congregate near the fence so I'll add a photo later. Gary's crew was great, with Randy as the project foreman making sure all tasks were going according to plan PLUS, he and the crew cleaned up each day they were here! It's hard to find a company/vendor you can trust to perform quality work. Gary Holt is one person that you can trust from start to finish. I will use him again when we have another landscaping project pop up!

They did full yard demo, including removal of a huge mulberry stump, fencing, irrigation, sod, planting. They started on time every day and left the work site clean at the end of the day. I waited to post after the Sacramento summer - happy to say everything they planted survived and is thriving with new growth. He put in a very cheap, poor quality drainage that does not work. The picture shows the drainage and the elevation difference between the drain and the top of the stairs. There is a 3/4" difference. A family member tripped on this and it was a nasty fall. When I sent a note to Jim, he just blew it off as my problem The crew workmanship was somewhat reasonable, but dealing with Jim was worse than exhausting. If you owe him money, he is your best friend, Johnny on the spot. When you pay him off and require followup to fix the screw ups, everything is your fault. I would not hire him again in any circumstance.
