The ignition switch on my Toyota was getting more and more difficult to turn on. More often than not I had to repeatedly jiggle it and fight with it before it would eventually turn and start the engine. I researched the problem online and found out that I could take it to a local locksmith and have them fix it for considerably less than having it replaced. I called another locksmith closer to my house, but they don't service ignitions and referred me to Rex. I called to confirm that they could help and they were very friendly and told me to bring it in. In less than an hour they had removed the ignition cylinder, fixed it, made me new keys and put the cylinder back in my car - all at a fraction of the time and cost of my mechanic. I am having some bizarre car problems, key mechanism to open the door is broken, one key hole for the entire car, fobs dead, no key will open it! I called Rex, they sent someone out, Michael, he is the most patient man I have ever met, I have a 2001 BMW and in order to get it open you basically have to sprinkle fairy dust all over the car. After two tireless hours he had to call it quits-mission impossible. He never got upset or gave up until I said. The guys at Rex Key are very knowledgeable and honest to all their customers. They'll give you free tips on how to maintain or fix your locks/keys yourself before resorting to a costly repair. Walk-in key copies are done quickly and you can be certain the copies will be guaranteed to work unlike Home Depot or ACE Hardware. Notice how the ACE key cutting station will always tell you: "save your receipt in case the key copy doesn't work". You definitely won't hear that at Rex Key. Weekend Tip: Saturdays are very busy for mobile / service calls. You'll need to be very lucky or call earlier in the week to reserve a Saturday slot. If you can, try removing the door lock and walking it into the shop for a same day repair. If you are getting your car ignition or door fixed you can even park your car in the private lot behind the shop. read more

I thought that the electronic keys on our Honda Pilot needed to be replaced because they depleted batteries, faster than a typical electronic key should. I'd taken the keys to a leading competitor and all they'd do is replace the batteries. One day, I happened to go to Rex for a battery replacement and they cleaned the electronics and did something else magical.....both key's work just fine since and the battery life is what we'd expect. There was no extra charge beyond the $3-$4 for the battery. This is a shop with knowledgeable, confident technicians, who have a great sense of humor. I always leave there laughing because they've got jokes or are ribbing it with each other. Had to get a copy of a simple door key for my kid. Anita helped us quickly and at a very good rate ($3 after tax). Back home, the key opened one of the locks, but unfortunately not the other. Went back to ask what could be done, and Anita made us 2(!) more keys quite carefully, saying that at least one of them should work. Bummer - they didn't! (My theory, not them putting blame: Old locks, old master key...) She had thought of that case though and recommended returning with a different master key. Went back today and Tim helped me. It took a bit longer, but he explained he had actually tried it out on a matching lock, and showed me the difference in how the little pins aligned inside. So he essentially made a third key to custom-fit. And it works!!! I love how much effort each of them put into making it right - at no additional charge. These guys have amazing expertise and great service attitude. (Only reason it's 4.5 stars is that of course it would have been ideal if the first attempt had worked...) read more

I called about a door that doesn't shut properly. I scheduled a house call today and someone called beforehand and arrived well within the pre-agreed two hour time window. Richard came in and diagnosed the issue within two minutes--he told me the issue wasn't the door knob but that the door itself needed to be trimmed and rehung (something we'd need a carpenter for). This is my first "Yelp" review. I was so impressed with Rex Key that I HAD to write. If there is a "ten stars" rating, I will give Rex Key a "ten star." This company and its people are the absolute best: helpful, honest, professional, and going beyond the call of duty. From making the appointment to getting the job done, they were friendly and supper efficient. They were short staffed yesteray, so the the owner, Joe, came out himself: re-keyed 14 locks, fixed shoddy workmanship from previous lockworks and gave advice on improvement. He even fixed a door closure mechanism that had many "handymen" puzzled - in 5 seconds! The job involved two different properties and 14 locks. All done within 2 hours.
