A lot of things went wrong with the dinner I dunno where to start. We Came for beef brisket since this location was exclusive for smoke meats but they were completely out along with most of the smoked meat menu items. The fried chicken was burnt and beyond greasy same for the cheese curds. I dunno if the cook left it cooking too long or what but it was a huge disappointment. Then they have the nerve to charge $3 for a tiny 1 oz serving of sauce which was a rip off. We ordered corn bread and biscuits but never received jelly even though we asked twice. On top of that they include a 6.5% service fee when the waitress refused to help box up the remaining food. I'm not against good tips but don't spot 6.5% and it's self Service. I have come here multiple times and I swear.. I have had a different experience every single time... which for consistency sake.. isn't the greatest. First time I went there, it was OFF THE CHARTS amazing. The chicken was moist, hot and spicy, perfectly cooked. Every single time I have gotten Revival.. the cheese curds have always been on point. I would have to say that these are the best cheese curds I have ever had in my life. I don't know how they manage get the cheese to feel light and airy.. the breading is also so light and airy it feels like you are eating whipped cheese air with a nice lil dipping sauce.. omg.. amazing. I've been wanting to come here for months. I got a babysitter for the day so my husband and I could go here uninterrupted. I love smoked meat and fried chicken so I was excited to go. You need to go to the mpls location for the smoked meat so we made it a date and took a walk around lake Harriet and then went to the restaurant, at about 1:40 pm on a Saturday. There is street parking and a small lot. We went in and got seated immediately, I would say there were about a dozen tables. We got helped right away and I had a local beer, my husband just had a water. The menu was their brunch menu however not specified. Ib heard that they do smoke meats so I asked about that but was told that isn't until 3 or 4 pm so I was disappointed. I could not find that on their menu. I had the 2 piece dark meat chicken dinner with the mac and cheese instead of the slaw. It was really good chicken and not too fried. My husband had the chicken and waffles, he thought they were ok. Revival has the best fried chicken in town. You can choose between three different heats depending on how spicy you like it. The first is just the "southern fried", that's just fried chicken with no heat. The second is "Tennessee hot", this heat has just the right spiciness. Then there is "Poultrygeist", I've never had it and probably never will, but if you like your mouth on fire may be this is the one for you. There Mac-n-cheese is pretty cheesy but not the best flavor I've had, may be if they tried a different cheese blend with a sharper cheese, but that just me. The cheesy biscuits were very moist and a nice amount of cheese on top. Now for the entree, I got the chicken and waffle sandwich. I believe it was a chicken thigh and I wish it was a breast, however it was still perfectly fried. The waffle fries as outstanding as well and they have a very nice tasting maple syrup and honey butter. Way back in 2017 or 2018, my partner and I have visited Revival and had a terrible experience. With all the raving comments about Revival around us, we decided to give it another chance, and it was the right decision. Back then, we had fried chicken liver, which turned out to contain more breading than liver. That was not an issue this time. The liver was not on the menu, but we ordered the double-dipped tenders, the chicken dinner plate with collard greens, mustard slaw, and white cheddar grits, fried green tomatoes, and the hush puppies. The fried chicken was juicy and tasty! The fried green tomatoes were probably the best that I have tasted from any restaurant so far! The white cheddar grits was also a great side. The hush puppies tasted good, but it differed from the traditional southern hush puppies a little bit. The collard greens had too much sugar, which resulted in a sweeter taste that overpowered the original taste, and the mustard slaw was a bit plain. But overall, the food was still excellent! Then in another occasion, we came back for brunch, and ordered the chicken sandwich, a chicken and gravy biscuit, and both desserts: blueberry cheesecake and banana cream pie, and everything was a hit! The chicken sandwich was out of this world! The chicken was crunchy, juicy, and very well-seasoned! The gravy was so good, that I ended up dipping some additional butter biscuits in it. And both desserts are worth trying! The banana cream pie tasted like banana pudding. Just make sure you scoop all the way to the end and start eating from the bottom, because otherwise you will feel like the whipping cream is dominant. The blueberry cheesecake tastes even better when you dip the cheesecake in the syrup / juice, so please ensure you do so! Another major advantage about Revival is that they are very affordable for a restaurant that has some factors of fanciness in it. Nowadays it is easy to find a place that looks like Revival with an entrée above $25 easily, but Revival is still on the economical side, so I appreciate it a lot! I finally ordered take out from here when I had family in town visiting during a massive snowstorm. We got a little bit of everything: 1/2 chicken of each type, Brussels sprouts salad, biscuits, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Everything was great. I really liked the spicy chicken versus the "normal," but honestly the Brussels sprouts salad might have been the star of the show! So good. What we ordered was enough to feed 5-6 (we had 4 hungry people eating and had leftovers for another meal for 2). Other things to note: parking out front of the restaurant to run in and grab my order was super easy, no utensils were provided (so request those if you aren't eating at home, we didn't need them), and there were a lot of side sauces for the various dishes. FINALLY got around to visiting Revival and boy, am I ever glad we did! Initial check-in is a bit chaotic as there's no host stand or rally point, but we were on the list in just a couple minutes. Wound up seated at the bar and service was great. Very attentive and helpful in answering our questions. We had the dry rubbed wings to start and while a little salt heavy they were delicious and the blue cheese crumbles on the side were a perfect counterpoint. The sides, hush puppies and red beans and rice were great. The chicken, both Tennessee hot and southern fried, was outstanding. Great crispy/crunchy/savory skin and excellent quality meat. In the city for a concert; I ordered a 2 piece chicken, sprouts off their happy hour menu, and a blood orange margarita. My sister had a pulled pork sandwich, cheese curds and the same drink. Then ordered burnt ends and mac and cheese to take home to my husband. All was wonderful! Cornbread was flavorful and nice crunchy top, chicken was cooked well with a crispy outside and not greasy inside. I want not fond of the coleslaw, but not a fan of onions (so not their fault). Revival tops the list of must haves every trip I make back to Minneapolis. Recently re-opened for indoor dining in Minneapolis, Revival doesn't offer reservations so its first come , first serve. We had about a 30-40 minute wait on a Saturday night so we went to Lowbrow across the street for a few drinks beforehand. Revival is best enjoyed with a group of at least 3 so sides, chicken and the food coma can be shared. Service is always solid at Revival and food comes out quickly once you get a table. It goes without saying that their fried chicken is the best in the city and among the best in the midwest. Tennessee Hot is the preferred choice of my group which is juicy, crispy and not shy in the portion size. A mountain of chicken with pickles laying on a bed of white bread. The sweet potato habanero hot sauce is a nice compliment for the chicken as well. Tons of solid sides at Revival, but Mac & Cheese is my go to there. Beautiful bake on their Mac & Cheese. Such moist meat, and the crispy outside is absolutely ridiculous. They serve this Sweet Potato Habanero sauce on the side that is totally bomb too. I love Revival, and went to the St Paul location a few months ago so thought we would give this new location a try. The food was still delicious but the Tennessee Hot was less spicy than I remembered... not sure if it's because of the location or because they changed their recipe. What I liked when I first tried the Tennessee Hot was that it was actually hot... not "Minnesota hot" so it was a bummer that it changed. Nevertheless, the chicken was still crispy and hush puppies and mac and cheese hit the spot. I also love that they had the sauces you can add on your chicken and butter pickles on the side. There is also nothing better than washing your meal down with sweet tea. The location was definitely cute, but I think it's a little smaller and cramped than the St Paul location, and there's no lot, just street parking. I used Yelp talk and asked people for recommendations and Jessica G said this place was good. I looked at their website and it looked interesting, so I ventured out for a late breakfast. The space is cozy...reminds me of NYC. I did see a small two-top and asked if I could sit there. The staff is friendly and kindly accommodated. This also gave me a great view of the dining room and watching everyone at work. Sinoun came and said hello and explained a little of the menu. She was excited that it was my first time to Revival and Minneapolis. I ordered the breakfast sandwich: crispy fried chicken, white gravy, between two waffles, dripping in syrup, and a fried egg on top. So delicious! The flavors played off each other very well! I also had to try the mac n cheese. As always, I compared it to Cafe Chloe's in San Diego (which I'm sad to say has closed), and this one was really good! Nice blend of cheese and a nicely baked top! Sinoun also mentioned the Thai chili oil and I tried it on the mac, and it gave it a nice spicy kick. Also the other sauce, I can't remember what it was made of, on the fried chicken was great too! One would think that, that was enough, but I had to try the banana cream pie, since I'm a fatty. All of quarantine, I've been craving a chicken sandwich, so I was super excited to finally get one and try Revival! Ordering online and picking it up were both seamless and easy! I ordered the Fried Chicken Thigh served Tennessee Hot with 2 extra side of pickles. I love pickles and I'm so glad I got 2 extra is this because one would definitely not have been enough! Arriving home with my precious cargo, the sandwich looked plump, juicy and dripping with the Tennessee Hot oil. The majority of my sandwich was heavenly- the chicken was perfectly crispy and crunchy on the outside and meaty and juicy (not dry) on the inside. I appreciate some good thigh meat! The bread and butter pickles were tangy and sweet and added a great touch to the sandwich overall. I didn't feel like Tennessee Hot was all that spicy, I do feel that the chicken could have had more seasoning/flavor though. It wasn't until I got to the last few bites, that I lost my appetite. I found a produce sticker the slice of tomato and couldn't finish the rest. I contacted the Revival to make them aware of this, just as an "FYI this is gross, please be more careful in the future" and did not seek compensation. They replied, apologized and said they'll pass this on to their managers and chefs to make sure this doesn't happen in the future. Finally got a chance to go to Revival after hearing so many great things! The restaurant itself is a bit small so if you have a larger group, you may need to wait a bit for space. Additionally, they do have a parking lot but it is also very small so I recommend street parking. I ordered the meat plate that included your choice of smoked meat, corn bread and your choice of side. I had the burnt ends and Mac and cheese. The burnt ends were okay - they were good sized however were a little cold (plus the barbecue sauce to dip in was cold as well so that didn't help). Mac and cheese was also okay - not the best I ever had, but wasn't bad either. The corn bread was good, especially with the honey butter! The hype is real, people! Believe it. The male companion requested this for his birthday dinner, so we showed up around 7:30pm on a Wednesday night. Note that neither location takes reservations. We had been warned that the wait would be super long, but it ended up only being 15 minutes! Hostess waiting at the front door to check us in was pleasant. We were going to go grab a drink nearby but there isn't much around it. We got a drink from the bar conveniently near the waiting space and facing the crowd of people dying to eat. Bartender was a sassafras and was pretty rude with us, so that wasn't an ideal start to the evening from a service perspective. But the rest of our experience was good enough to earn it the 5/5. Now for food. I was dying to try the pork rinds, hot cheetos style with cheese sauce, but that sounded too weird to the boyf. Instead, we decided to both get chicken and then share a smattering of sides. I was SO PUMPED to come here when I found out they have gluten free fried chicken. This is the ONLY place I've ever heard of that does this! Dream come true. I got the GF 2 piece chicken, and the man got tennessee hot white meat 2 piece. If I had to do it again, I would have upgraded to the white meat too. Less boney and less skin/fat, and honestly was bigger portion. He really liked the tennessee hot flavor and both of our chicken was the perfect amount of crispy and crunch and perfectly prepared. But let me tell ya about their SAUCES. They have three sauces that are table staples. Two were a vinegar base, one of which was spicy with a great kick. The waiter recommended the vinegar on the mac and cheese, and we can confirm that it was delicious that way. However, the 3rd sauce was the clear winner and master. We asked what it was called, and our waiter said it was "Sweet Potato Habanero" and Oh. My. Lort. It was like cinnamon and spice and nutmeg and pepper and everything nice. One of the best complex flavors sauce I've ever had. We doused our chicken in it. They need to sell this stuff in bulk. The sides, the sides, oh which to pick! We went with mac and cheese, white cheddar grits, red slaw, and green beans. Mac and cheese was unreal--amazing cheesey flavor unlike any other cheese I've had, crumbs on top for a crispy finish, and warm gooeyness melts in your mouth.
