I have been wanting to try this place since I heard they opened. I went tonight with my son because we both love BBQ. We each got a two meat combo plate. He got one that was pulled pork and brisket with sweet potato fries. I got pork ribs and brisket with Mac and cheese. We also ordered two jalapeño cheddar sausage links to share. We also ordered smoked chicken wings in buffalo sauce for an appetizer. The wing are awesome they had just enough smoke and crisp to make them very flavorful and the right amount of sauce. The brisket was great. I think the slices were from where the the flat and point meet. The ribs were seasoned well and had a good smoke ring. The only thing I might say was lacking for me is they were fall off the bone. I like mine to have a little tug to where I can take a bite and the meat doesn't all come away. The Mac and cheese for me was missing something maybe a little smoke or garlic. My son said the pulled pork was a little too chewy and the fat really hadn't melted into the meat. He was surprised to taste the brown sugar on the sweet potato fries which he said were ok. The jalapeño and cheddar sausage was good and it was cooked with just the right amount of snap to the casing. They had some good side options like coleslaw, mashed potatoes, regular and sweet potato fries, Mac and cheese and baked beans also. I would have liked to been able to order potato salad but not a deal breaker. Maybe another sausage option is like a Texas style hot link. Our server Nic S. was awesome always checking in and making sure that food was good and if we needed anything. We went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty busy. We came towards the end of happy hour also. The parking lot is shared by two other popular restaurants so parking was a little difficult but not bad. Stopped at Mr. Pig's Smokery and thought it was just okay overall--not bad, but not the best BBQ I've had in Minnesota. I ordered the combo platter to try a few things. The ribs were probably the best part--good bark and the meat came off the bone easily. The pulled pork was moist, but a little softer than I personally prefer. The brisket was hit or miss for me. I don't like fatty pieces, so I only ended up enjoying one slice. For sides, I got beans, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. The beans were good, and the mashed potatoes were solid with no complaints. The mac and cheese, though, needs some work--it was pretty bland and the noodles were too soft. The cornbread muffins were actually a standout--they had a nice sweetness and were really enjoyable. I also tried a Kansas-style BBQ sauce that was much better than the ones on the table. The vinegar-based sauce wasn't for me. The decor is nice and inviting, with some fun details like twinkle lights in the center of the restaurant, and the bar area looks really good. Our server was good and was attentive to any needs. Overall, I'd maybe come back and try something different, but as it stands, it's just okay. There's better BBQ out there. read more

We have been wanting to try Mr Pigs for quite some time and had a delicious meal for my husband's birthday! We shared the hushpuppies, they were perfectly crisp and incredibly flavorful with the right amount of heat from the green chilis and matched with a yummy dipping sauce. He had the ribs, brisket and pulled pork with coleslaw and corn bread. I had the pulled pork grilled cheese. All the meats were perfectly done, moist and tender. The meat fell right off the bones of the ribs. Coleslaw was great, cornbread delicious with some honey butter on the side, house made chips crunchy and seasoned so well! An all around hit for us. Went Super bowl Sunday! They have all day Happy Hour Sundays - keep that in mind. Restaurant wasn't busy at all since it was SB. We walked in and were able to seat ourselves. We were clearly looking at the HH menu when we ordered the majority of our items. Got drinks and I got wings, fries and corn bread. Cornbread was hard. Fries were a bit soggy but overall okay. I asked if the wings were seasoned at all (I know they are smoked and that gives it flavor), I was told yes but they were pretty bland. My friend ordered a brisket and rib platter, she said the brisket was dry and falling apart but the ribs were really good. We both didn't care for bbq sauces. She also ordered hush puppies which she said were fine. The hush puppies and wings are both on the HH menu... when we got the bill we noticed we were charged full price and questioned it. We were told the hh versions come with less. The wings w/ 4 wings and Hush puppies w/ 3. I ate 3 wings and my friend only finished 1 hush puppy so that would have been ideal servings anyways. I give service 1.5/5 stars just for her not clarifying that when we ordered. Felt like they were anti HH promotions to make up for slow sales. My father-in-law drove past this new Shakopee district and talked us in to trying Mr Pigs Smokery. We don't live in the area (about 50 mins away), but I'm so glad we did! It happened to be Super bowl Sunday, but early in the afternoon, and Mr Pigs was fairly busy. We were seated quickly and asked for our preference in table (high top versus standard table), which we appreciated. Our waitress stopped by quickly. I did notice they had all day Happy Hour and wish she would have expanded on the specials, particularity around food, if they had some. I will admit, she wasn't the most friendly, but she was attentive and she filled our order accurately! The cute lil' pigs sprinkled throughout the restaurant is SO cute. Three of four of us got the two meat platter, a mix of ribs, pulled pork and brisket. We were very pleased with the temperature of our food, the speed in which we received it, and the overall portion size (plenty to take home!) My father in law tried a full rack of ribs and took a good portion home. We also tried a variety of sides. Crowd pleaser and the single most reason for my return... the cornbread AND homemade honey butter. OMG. Soooo good! I asked for two additional muffins to take home with me and I enjoyed them THAT evening! No shame in my game. The only other bummer, IMO, was the water. What a fantastic barbecue joint nestled in the redevelopment of Shakopee! what used to be in old Chaska has now transitioned over to the new area closer to the Mystic Lake amphitheater with a revamped style, but still lots of old traditional recipes that made Mr. pigs who they are still today.The barbecue here is fantastic. Absolutely love the brisket.-it was juicy tender, just what you would hope for in brisket. I appreciate that they gave you different variety of sauces to choose from. I personally loved the mild, although the Kentucky bourbon had that sweet molasses flavor that you hoped for in a well-balanced barbecue sauce. I am the biggest critic when it comes to coleslaw, and Mr. pigs has the right balance of tangy, sweet, creamy without overdoing it. Each by the coleslaw is crunchy and flavorful and I feel like that's so hard to do and they nail it every time . The manager is fantastic and so kind, as we ended up visiting again for a catering tasting experience and immediately wanted to have them for our big day. The space is cozy. It's not a huge barbecue joint which on the flipside I actually really appreciate. I love how there are still pig tchotchkes from the old building brought to this new building. We found Mr Pig Smokery from a video on Facebook and decided to give it a try, and I'm glad we did. Everything we had was really good. The food was excellent across the board. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender with great flavor, and the brisket was super tender as well. The cornbread was perfectly cooked, which I always look for at BBQ spots, so that was a big win for me. The beans were excellent, and the cheesy potatoes were well-seasoned and hit the spot. Good lord, the pork chop was incredible. So tender, juicy, all around delicious and nothing like the pork chops that traumatized me as a child. I was skeptical at first but this has completely changed my adult mind about pork chops which deserves an award of its own. The restaurant has a great southern vibe with metal and wood finishes reminiscent of a smoker, fantastic service (I was worried about the pink in the middle of my pork chop due to the fact that every chop I had in my childhood was cooked to absolute death and beyond so I never knew pork could be pink and edible LOL--they immediately reassured me it was smoked to perfection and they weren't lying even a little bit), and the food would absolutely bring us back. Cornbread and mashed potatoes were very good as well. It was busy and the bartender was doing a great job keeping up. Awesome to see so many people in there for dinner, especially after hearing from a local that they just opened the restaurant a year ago or so as an extension of their catering business. The food was delicious, the preparation is fairly quick for lunch hour. However the host was not up to the task. I was trying to explain a situation to him and that I wanted a side of bread, telling him that I missed heading to the radio button when I hit the payment button.
