So - after a ban of 7 plus years, I headed back in thinking, new year, new attitude, let's give this another try. On a Sunday just after lunch, the place was cleared-out of offerings. Literally under 10 individual donuts on the shelf and none were yeast. They had two Swedish flops, but would not cut them - because yes, someone is going to come in and buy two full sheets on a Sunday afternoon. I suspect those will be the Monday/Tuesday slice offerings. No bueno. I got a box of the very expensive cookies and a pack of the homemade twinkies. The cookies were meh - nothing special to justify the $14.50 cost. The twinkies were odd - you need to leave them out to harden to really get the texture you expect, but then you have to eat them pretty quickly or they will be stale. Went to a wedding and asked where the cake was from. I know the bride. This place ruined her wedding cake. She asked for some marbled effect. And it looked as if someone took that cake home and tried to practice fondant with it and that's the cake that was presented to her . What a embarrassment for this establishment. We used to only go to rosers on north ave. We stop going there years ago because we found Reuters was closer and the cake inside was delicious. But not no more. We will go back to rosers and even try out other bakeries. They are definitely a swing and a miss at this place. Take your chances. I completely disagree with Yvonne's review and Richard's remarks just displays his courage to have someone who challenges his baking skills to come to the shop. They have a good bread selection and okay pastry selection. If we want to talk over rated and over priced that would by Rosers Bakery. So why do I really love this place? Well me and my wife got our cake from here. And it was beautiful and everyone loved it. My friend loved it so much he and his fiance practically copied our cake for his wedding. The fresh fruit option was great... I get depressed thinking about that cake because it was probably the best cake i ever had. The butter cream frosting wasn't to sweet to or to buttery, just perfect. Oh yeah and the price for a three tier cake or 4 tier cake was amazing. By far the cheapest we found. Reuter's Bakery has so much potential, but they seem to be so stuck in their old ways that they're falling behind on ensuring that they're delivering great customer service. Perhaps it's because they rely on the fact that their baked goods are tasty and the bread is tasty, but my family has been a customer for 10+ years and I'm afraid we won't be back. 2 weeks ago we put in an order over email for a law school graduation cake. When we came in to pick up the cake, Reuters claimed no order had been placed because it "had to be confirmed in person." The emails showed otherwise. Lately the customer service/management at Reuters has been falling apart and for that reason alone I would no longer recommend this bakery. read more

I would be in absolute trouble if I lived near this place. Everything is as delicious as it looks. Such a great variety of breads, pastries, cakes, cookies and many more sweet treats. The cakes custom or premade never disappoint! The cookies are light a fluffy, and I love the ganache they use on their smiley face cookies. All my birthday cakes since I was a baby have been purchased from Reuter's (and I wish there was a way to add photos on here, because I can show you some darling cakes from when I was two and three years old). Finding a place to park was a bit of a challenge considering there's no parking lot and the residential area south of Grand prohibits parking unless you have one of those stickers on your windshield. For some reason, if you go a little east, you'll be able to find regular parking. However, I had to park about 4 blocks east and 2 blocks south to stay out of the clear. Once I got there, everything looked good and it seemed like the place hadn't changed a bit. There was one old lady and about 4 high school aged girls behind the counter. I ended up getting some cannolis, Neapolitans, rectangular slice of chocolate cake with a rasberry on top ($1.97 each), an eclair sandwich with whipped cream inbetween ($2.01), and a marshmallow horn ($1.53). Overall, everything tasted great, with the eclair sandwich being the standout winner. Not too crazy about the location. It would be nice if they were located in a parking friendly area. read more

I usually order from here for my birthday cakes for over 16yrs but I will be looking for another bakery. I walked in to order 2 cakes. The first was cake shaped in the number 16 with happy birthday written around. When I got there it was a sheet cake with big 16 on it. They were able to make the cake over before my party. The other cake was a round cake with sprinkles and fondant bow with 16 on top. The cake looked awesome until we cut it and it was only yellow cake. I ordered chocolate and yellow cake. Reuter's is worth the trip for hot cross buns alone! And they make them year round if you call ahead to special order. Their boxes of fancy cookies are pricey but well worth it for the perfect hostess gift. Coffee cakes, fresh baked loaves of white bread and donuts also amazing. Always loved the turtle cookies but they have now cut back on quality. Smaller pieces of pecan and less chocolate, unfortunate that they are no longer worth buying. The taste is just not the same. BEWEAR IF YOUR ORDERING MORE THEN ONE ITEM FROM HERE!!!! I placed an order for 2 cakes and 2 orders of 24 count cookies to be picked on November 19,2022. I paid over 400 dollars ahead of time way before picked up date. I had a cousin that lives in Elmwood Park to pick up my orders since I leave over an hour away. When she picked up my order, the lady brought out one cake and my cousin told her their another cake and cookies as well and the lady comes back out with the other cake and still no cookies so my cousin reminds her again about the cookies and she brings out the cookie box meanwhile this lady never opens the boxes of cakes or cookies to show her and everything is taped up and stapled like crazy. Well when my cousin finally makes it to my house after the hour drive, I open everything and notice they only gave me one order of 24 cookies not the other order of 24. But at this time the bakery is already closed for Saturday and when I tried calling on Sunday the phone was off the hook and the calls were not going through. Then I contacted them through online telling them the issue that happen and tried calling again finally a lady picked up and was like yes we have your cookies here...when are you going to pick them up? And I'm like well they didn't even make it to my daughters party and I love an hour away. She never said sorry and said well whoever picked up the order didn't make sure she had the whole order. So now it's Tuesday November 22 and I pick up the cookies from the same rude polish lady that answer the phone on Sunday and I told her do I least get a discount for my next order for your staff mistake and she NO YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE WHOLE/CORRECT ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE!!!! AWFUL service. Who cares if the cake is good if they won't let you in? I've never been to Reuter's - because the manager for wedding cake appointments wouldn't let me make an appointment! I don't know who I spoke with. She asked when the wedding was (August 3, 2012) today is November 17, 2011. The lady said, "I think it's too early. But you can look at our website and come back after New Year's." I didn't even request a day or time for an appointment yet. My family has been coming to Reuter's for over 30 years. My Italian mother is extremely picky when it comes to bakeries. We love our cannoli's, zeppole's , napoleon's (any Italian pastry for that matter) and Reuter's makes the best in my opinion. Their custard far surpasses any other I've tried and yes there is a difference when it comes to custard. We only buy zeppoles (for St. Joseph's day) here. No where else. Just not the same. They make excellent cannoli cakes, tiramisu cake, and their Boston crème cake is delicious as well as all of their pastries and breads. But I have never had to park four blocks away. There is usually parking available around the corner. This is an old German bakery that has been around since what feels like the beginning of time. And when you walk in it feels and looks like it. You have many ladies working the counter that have been there since I was a wee one. It still has the same tile... everything. This is not your posh bakery... people go back because they know a good thing.. that is basic and is yummy! No gourmet cupcakes or anything like that. My family has been going there forever... every birthday cake, holidays... my sisters and I used the bakery for our wedding cakes.. for which at each wedding we did something different so they wouldn't be the same... and on all reviews the cakes were AWESOME! It wouldn't be a birthday without a cake from Reuter's Bakery! This place happens to be right around the corner form my grandparents' house, so naturally it's a family tradition to buy all of our birthday cakes here. My big day happens to be at the end of May, which conicides with strawberry season. This means that every year I get a huge, moist yellow cake filled with fresh strawberries and the sweetest, lightest, most delicious whipped cream I have ever tasted. Honestly, I get more excited about the cake than anything else...... presents, champagne, birthday dinner, seeing my friends and family. It's THAT good. The decorating is defintely old-school, with 'Happy Birthday, Christy' written out in script with pink icing, surrounded by sugar-wafer roses and the side being painted by airbrush in rainbow colors. It's happy and cheerful and fun and I love it! For my family members that have birthdays in the fall and winter, we usually go with the chocolate cake, still covered with that AMAZING whipped cream, garnished with finely crushed nuts. You can still order the strawberry cake off-season, but I don't think it tastes as good. And besides being a great place for cakes (they also did a cake for one of my bridal showers that was really beautiful), their other baked goods are fabulous! Besides the most delicious cookies ever (butter cookies with sprinkles = yum), I'm a huge fan of their cake donuts (especially when topped with vanilla frosting). I had placed a large order for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and for my mother's birthday which is Christmas Eve. I went in the morning of Christmas Eve and they did not have my order. It was very crowded and I had my two young children with me. I waited and waited and waited....I had ordered cupcakes for my mom's birthday and they offered me two cupcakes frosted with brown frosting since it is all they had. Um, no. They pulled coffee cakes and cookies I had ordered. I ended up buying small pastries to use for the birthday since I really couldn't wait any longer for them to make the cupcakes. In their defense, they charged me minimal for my order since they realized they had messed up.
