Silverland is the kind of place I like having near the highway so that I can pick up treats on the way to work or a social engagement if I've forgotten to make something at home. I told the nice gentleman who waited on me that this was my first time visiting and he gave me the history of the shop and the owner while neatly wrapping up my brownies. It took maybe three or four minutes to serve because all of the blends are freshly made, and I had to wait in line for about twenty minutes, but the wait was worth it. It was nice to take the ice-cream cone and sit on a bench at the park nearby. The shop/window is attached to Courageous Cafe, but the operating hours are not the same as the cafe's, and one has to wait in line outside rather than indoors. The shop is about five minutes from the Oak Park Green Line CTA station. Highly, highly recommend this place to those visiting Oak Park! My husband chose an iced chai, and I chose an iced coffee with nonfat milk. I appreciate places that carry nonfat milk, as several do not. The bakery menu was quite a bit more extravagant. My husband chose the banana cake, and I chose a parmesan truffle roll. Later, I noticed that they had an Italian Beef roll (a true Chicago specialty), but I had already ordered the parmasean truffle roll. Honestly the pastries were amazing. Service was fast and the coffee and chai were good. We sat inside and had some interesting chats with some of the customers. I think that that though the coffee menu is basic, the products are good. The bakery items are delicious, and it seems to be a real community hub where locals enjoy spending time.
