Was visiting Oak Park and this bakery looked super cute and exactly like what I wanted for breakfast. There was a line but it went quickly. I got the espresso cardamom bun because of how delicious it looked! I also got the olive oil cake because it seemed highly recommended based off reviews. The bun was super soft and definitely tasted fresh, but personally I didn't really like the flavor and wish I got something else. I liked the olive oil cake and the texture was perfectly moist with a crispy crust. The coffee was also delicious. I ordered a lavender mocha iced, and it came with a creamy foam on top. This is a great little bakery that packs a punch! We stopped here for a quick bite between visiting Ernest Hemingway birthplace and starting our Frank Lloyd Wright heritage tour. It was perfect for a quick bite. There were amazing baked goods on display and we chose the kale salad scone, rosemary apricot scone, and pimento biscuit sandwich. All baked goods are beautiful and generously sized. All were delicious and unique. The cafe also has a full compliment of coffee drinks, but as it was a hot day we chose iced tea. I had an Arnold Palmer. There is self serve water as well. The selection is limited to baked goods only. We didn't try the cookies or cakes, but they looked amazing. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating in a small area surrounding potted plants making for an inviting setting with limited space. The staff are efficient and calm. I can't understand why I have not wrote a review for this bakery. Probably because I eat it so fast I also don't have pictures to remind me. The location is probably the only issue I have because it's not close to me and their is always traffic. The sweet and savory cornbread biscuits are the best textured goods I have ever had. Soft on the inside with crunch on the outside and full of flavor. I prefer the sweet personally with the butter and homemade jam. The scones are a second favorite of mine with the newest addition of blue cheese, bacon, and sage being my favorite. A second would be the kale and cheddar. We were in the area and wanted a coffee. Instead of going to our usual Starbucks we decided to support a local shop. We looked on Yelp and saw how well loved Broken Tart was and it was a no brainer to visit. They have street parking right outside and it was not hard to find parking at all. Once I entered I was overwhelmed with all of the delicious pastries. Not knowing what to order I asked for their favorite and best selling items because I wanted to try them all. We ended up with the ricotta chocolate chip bread, both their rosemary scone and their kale and tomato scone, along with their almond pastry. None of these disappointed at all. In fact it was so good we ate all of it before we even left our parking spot. Haha, and we had no shame about it. The same went with drinks. She made incredible recommendations for both a caffeinated and a lightly caffeinated beverage. They recommended their most popular Broken Tart latte and my husband was obsessed. He loved all of their spices and said it was actually one of the best lattes he's had in such a long time. For me, since I am limited on my caffeine intake, had their plum iced tea. The cutest little bakery shop in Oak Park! Was able to find parking right on Chicago Ave. It's very small inside with limited seating and it was busy when I came in around 8am. Once you walk in, you are greeted with their mouthwatering display of pastries, and of course the kind staff. I got one of every cookie and tried both the savory and sweet cornbread biscuits. When you enter, you see some baked goods on the left side of the counter and then a cashier takes your order, but do yourself a favor and check out the display to the right of the register. I missed a bunch of cakes that would have garnered my attention. Ordered a chili oil fried onion cheese biscuit. It might have been better had it been warmed up but it was cooled, hardened, soaked in chili oil and over-buttered. The rating is more for the ambience. Loved the color scheme and the fresh flowers. Did try a bite of cookie and they're on the thin, crispy, slightly chewy side with a healthy amount of sugar. We took a little drive to Oak Park last weekend and we arrived starving. As we frantically searched for a bakery on Yelp, this little gem popped up! Broken Tart did not disappoint. The staff were super friendly, even giving us free stickers! They were out of some staples, but that is a good sign that this place is well loved. You could taste the butter and chocolate in every bite. Definitely will be back for these sometime soon. I should've picked up one of the marbled cheesecakes with salted bourbon glaze, they looked phenomenal. I ordered the cinnamon espressos rolls, I wanted this to be good so badly. There was a citrus taste, I believe lemon that just completely threw off the balance of it. The same with the chocolate chip cake slice, also had a lemon or citrus glaze on it. I was driving by and there was a line out the door. Then I read the reviews, and I HAD to stop by. This is such an adorable little bakery/cafe with little seating. The inside is gorgeous - simple yet aesthetic. I ordered: -mocha w/ oat milk -seasonal drink (coconut milk with cinnamon) -cornbread biscuit with butter and seasonal jam -Georgie cake (coffee cake) First, the mocha was great, but unfortunately a bit lukewarm. And now, the biscuit... WOW. I am usually not a huge biscuit fan, but this is different. This "cornbread biscuit" is the most ideal balance of cornbread and biscuit. It's not more or less of one or the other. I had it for takeout and was able to microwave it when I got home. The butter melted into the biscuit and it was so moist and soft on the inside, and nicely baked and crunchy on the outside. I'm drooling just typing this out haha! It had blackberry jam on the inside, which was not too sweet. I loved that the jam was more like smushed blackberries - really adds to the texture. Tiny little cafe with very nice staff. I ordered and dirty chai, which in my experience are always too sweet or too spicy, but I wanted to give this place a chance. I was not disappointed, they did it just right. Strong enough and very tasty. I got a scone too and it was delish.
