I was in Oak Park today and happened to park near your bake shop and knew I had to go in. I bought two chocolate chip cookies. Spilt Milk is a cute little neighborhood bakery that serves homemade pies and baked goods. You know their food is homemade when you peer through the windows of the adjacent storefront where you can see them actually preparing and baking their scrumptious desserts. As much as the displayed baked goods look very tasty, I had their quiche of the day which was ham and guyere for lunch. It took about 12 minutes for the quiche, but I have to admit it was one of the better quiches that I have had. The quiche was filled with sliced ham which is different than most places that would use ham bits. The quiche was extra fluffy, almost omelet-like, with guyere cheese and was absolutely delicious. The crust was definitely homemade from the adjacent storefront and absolutely perfect. The only disappointment was that the quiche did not come with any side, be it a small salad or even one of their cookies. Split Milk is a wonderful neighborhood find. Cannot believe it took me so long to try out this place. Very cute shop, very family friendly. My favorite pastry was the salted caramel passionfruit thumbprint cookie. The monkey bread was moist in the middle and caramelized on the edges. The coffee and cream shortbread was too strong for my taste. My favorite drink was the strawberry matcha. Ok here's what's so...nice, quaint, cool lil spot.....food looks totally scrumptious. I had the oatmeal raisin white macadamia cookie. Coffee was good. Smooth. Not bitter as my SB( Not saying the name). Cool that they make everything literally right there. The reason I gave it such a low rating....it would at least be a 4 if not higher. Which "starts" at $5. I needed caffeine but love horchata. "Can I make that a horchata latte?" "Sure. What size?" "Large." "It usually comes with 3 shots, and is oat milk still ok?" "Yep." Cute small cafe/ coffee shop in the oak park neighborhood. I stopped in to grab a drink and check out the ambiance on an early morning Wednesday. I decided on a small oat milk horchata steamer. It was a Fall 2023 special. It's incredibly small for the size to the price of $3.75 but was insanely delicious. I believe the cafe could stand to put their prices on the boards regarding the food selections that way patrons are aware. My only only reason for four stars was the price of the drink versus the size. The prices are fairly high but the quality being served is amazing. Cookies, pies, croissants (two choices on the Sunday I visited: 1. Almond. 2. Ham and Gruyère.). Freezer with take and bake options. A few well chosen books, chocolates, etc available as well. Excellent espresso, long draw. The almond croissant was beyond phenomenal. Flaky, lots of slivered almonds, sprinkled with powdered sugar, just the right amount of almond paste. Again, phenomenal. I must confess, about six months ago I had a negative experience with poor service here. But now, it appears the service issues have been addressed and resolved. Five stars plus. Through the years, Spilt Milk has lost a lot of what made it great when it first opened. What once felt warm, thoughtful, and inviting, now feels manufactured, unorganized, and cold. I think part of that is because their new location is too big and a bit of a mess, but also because the service is incredibly underwhelming. Sure, you can get a yummy pastry or slice of quiche, but is it worth being treated like an afterthought (or worse, an annoyance) to the person behind the counter waiting on you? It feels like the people who work there either (1) don't know what they're doing or (2) just don't want to be there. Consistently poor customer service in a community-loved bake shop is really disheartening. Not only that, but if you submit a custom pie order (like we did), there is a chance they'll sell it "by accident" without informing you (like they did to us)... that's horrible! read more

Delicious pastries. I especially enjoy the Mexican chocolate cookie and almond croissant. Coffee is mediocre but I had drip coffee rather than my typical espresso. Even so, drip coffee can be a litmus for custom coffees. The shop is beautiful with a little seating inside. There's more seating out front and a patio in back. Ambiance is lovely, as is the staff. Everything is pricey but delicious. Parking can be a little difficult but there is some paid parking across the road and a few hours free parking of you walk a few blocks. read more

After ordering a pie for Thanksgiving, i received instructions to wait for a confirmation text that my item was ready before coming to pick it up. That morning, I called to check because I hadn't gotten any texts. The person who answered was snappy: they were closing so I'd have to pick it up within 30 minutes. When I got there, the woman was quite rude and didn't even have it ready to go on a table, I had to wait for 6 minutes for them to bring it from the back (!). For all that, the pie was just so-so, half of it was left at the end of the night while the other one was wiped out. I decided it's just not worth the price, or the hassle of dealing with the inconvenient pick up process and the prima donnas, especially when I'm hosting and juggling many other details the day of. So happy to see this place up and running again! One of my girlfriends favorite coffee shops in Oak Park and had been dying to go back. It's always nice supporting a local/small business so we've had good experiences at this location & their prior location a few feet away (haha). I like the inside of the shop, has so many things you can buy and possible gifts for Xmas. Little stocking stuffer kind of gifts. This day we had two cookie and two drinks. One coffee and the other hot chocolate. The cookies were to die for... so tasty & soft and those cookies are the main reason I'll be back. As for the hot chocolate, let's just say I would not order that again. It was not super terrible but it just taste like watered down chocolate oat milk. Coffee was good to. The shop has a nice old fashioned and trendy look. I quite didn't like the stale smell inside. Strange that the air wasn't filled with sweet flavors. The prices were a bit expensive. Some of the pies looked dry. I just ordered a small lavender latte. It wasn't busy maybe one person ahead of me. But it took 15 to 20 minutes for me to get my latte. Was in the area last week and needed 2 pecan pies to take home to Michiana, MI for a Gumbo party dessert. Yelped "Bakeries" and found Spilt Milk on South Blvd, took a ride and was delightfully surprised! Scratched the pecans for an amazing heirloom apple-pear-cranberry crumble pie and a best-ever heirloom apple pie, (witha slice of pecan and peanut butter cookie on the side). The quality of these pies was so over the top, there were only scraps left over. The 2 young ladies helping me were fun and added to the experience. Here is a new thing--like I said in my last review, if you place an order for a holiday, you must cancel 2 weeks before the holiday- that is ridiculous-- most places take new orders a few days before the holiday. But here is the kicker-- if their holiday cancellation policy is what it is as I just mentioned how come I get emails a day before ( Thursday) to order their ( next day) "Friday Night Dinners"? And they are here felt expensive and you have to heat them yourself! They just upped their delivery fee from $7 to $9 but the website says the delivery charge is based on your order--so unclear delivery fees. Obviously this place doesn't care about their customers, every part of this business cares solely about themselves. I always get a ridiculously loud, semi rude associate at Spilt Milk that makes it obvious that they would rather walk over broken glass than help me with my To-Go orders. I continued to patronize them because the location is so close and the desserts are kinda awesome. But Today was the last. They had the audacity to give me rotten fruit on 10 stems of wilted arugula. $13 of fruit from the garbage - Heirloom Tomato, Stone Fruit, & Burrata Salad. If that wasn't enough, they sold the (2) pasta salads I PAID for and had to refund me. Now I know why the guy helping me was so nice because he quickly packed my bag with bullshit as the manager was on her phone and never apologized - b*tvh! She always has a pissy demeanor. 3 times I have ordered a pie online only to get to the shop for them to tell me they sold it to someone in line. 4 times I was physically in line looking at a pie in the display case only to be told it was already sold online. Staff was rude to me and offered no form of compensation for driving an hr out of my way to pick up a pie that never existed. I was one their first customers 10 years ago. Beyond disappointed in the establishment as the owner told me they aren't worried about my concerns as they pump out $4k+/ day orders. I dragged myself out of my air-conditioned apartment on a particularly hot and humid day just to get me some pie--and I'd do it again. I wasn't going to walk 10 min to get a single slice of pie when I could get more, guys. Thoughts: It's a tiny little shop so keep your eyes peeled or you just might walk past it! But don't let the size of this little gem fool you because there's a slew of yummy-looking things inside. How do you choose? Well, you don't, silly! I had the salted honey, chocolate cream, and some coffee to go, but definitely wished I'd also gotten the peanut butter chess and the key lime! The salted honey was a little too sweet for my taste but it was exactly the sugary pick-me-up I needed after walking around in the 93-degree weather. The chocolate cream filling was smooth and rich with a buttery flaky crust that made me wish I'd gotten the whole pie. I just didn't want to look like that sad person getting a whole pie to eat on his/her own. Well, that sad person is a genius because that's EXACTLY what I wanted to do after eating my pies. I love this place, and it's one of my favorites to stop by on a the way home from work for a little treat (namely their rainbow sprinkled cookie, lol). Their quiche is also great, and I've enjoyed their pies and other baked goods when I've ordered them for holidays and events. The ambiance is very nice, and their wine selection is phenomenal. At one time, this was the best bakery in Oak Park. As of early 2024, this is no longer the case. Their food is pretty good overall. Ordering in there is unfortunately a little complicated, as the staff are sometimes a bit clueless and there's a lot of stuff around they have to find and ring you up for while you stand there between a counter and a big kitchen space behind you, so we can feel cluttered and odd as you order and then stand off to the side, waiting in this big open space and other people can come in and don't realize that it's their time to order. It's delicious & filling, & the crust is perfection. The ingredients are so fresh, too. We knew that wouldn't be enough, so we also grabbed the Chai-spiced coffee cake. That was our first time buying it, but it definitely will not be our last! It was a HUGE hit with the fam!
