We stopped by for a brownie six-pack the other day and came away impressed. I still can't quite figure out the sweet spot for price-to-brownie size when I visit local bakeries; the brownies here feel a little small for the price, but they were mostly tasty. We tried a range of flavors and my family liked what they tasted, but no one was that interested in running out again the following weekend to try them again, even driving by the location to remind them of the place we had visited. Silverland is the kind of place I like having near the highway so that I can pick up treats on the way to work or a social engagement if I've forgotten to make something at home. It's also a small shop with just a table or two off to the side, so I don't think it's a place I would stop to dine in. Ok, where have I been that I finally stopped in here yesterday to discover the best brownies I've ever eaten. What are they putting in these brownies? I'm hooked. The day started with a craving for something chocolate and this bakery seriously satisfied it! I bought the genache, double chocolate truffle, caramel and cheesecake. I ordered four (4) different flavors for one of their party platter options. "Silverland Bakery" has been on my "must-try" bucket list for a long, long time. Nowadays my opportunities to "Yelp" businesses have dwindled down quite much due to my obligation to take care my newborn and my family. I still found a way to sample their layer bars for our son's one (1) month celebration. I placed the order through GrubHub and scheduled a later pickup time. I chose double chocolate with walnuts, lemon, raspberry crumble, and sever layer bar. My favorite was the lemon and raspberry crumble since I always enjoy anything fruity. A couple of our guests thought the bars were a bit sweet. Nevertheless, a cup of black Americano or Red Eye would totally be perfect with these delicious bad boys! I personally thought they were tasty and easy to handle. The bars were cut in square and not messy in comparison to cutting a cake. As a Virgo, I thought these bars were winners in my book: no cleanup needed, just a plate to catch the crumbles! The pickup process was no issue. Yet when I walked in, I had to wait for someone to come up from the kitchen. That wasn't a big deal though. I will certainly patronize "Silverland Bakery" again. Ordered brownies to be shipped to my father out of state because he had COVID. Was going to send on of those "Get Well Package" that comes soup and cookies. Decided to send brownies instead. Package was four days late due to UPS having trailer problems. When I called, I received the worst customer service possible. Whoever answers their phone is not engaged and not very helpful. I have had their brownies in the past and they are not bad, but not great. There are better bakery options in the Chicago area. Don't recommend. read more

Okay...in this day and age a good bakery is really a lost and forgotten place. The smells, fresh good and everything in between. I could go on and on, but Silverland meets all these and then some. I've passed by here tons of times but have never ventured in. I did today and wow was I pleasantly surprised. The place is just really, really good. This is located right in the heart of Forest Park and has ample parking and is very easy to get to from CTA and the El. The employee working when I was there was very friendly and polite. She even went in back and got some cookies for me when I though mine were not in stock. The important stuff here.. the food rocks. The baked goods are on point and taste great. The prices are also very fair and competitive. I got a double chocolate brown and my girlfriend got a salted Carmel brownie. We got some chocolate chip cookies to try and everything was great. I've passed this cute little bakery several times in my car and decided to finally stop in and try some goodies. I'm glad I did because I absolutely enjoyed the brownies and I loved talking to the owner. I tried the blondie, double chocolate with nuts, peanut butter, salted caramel, and raspberry bar. All of them were unique and tasted great! I could tell the ingredients were fresh, all-natural, and on the healthier side. I didn't feel like I was being bombarded with sugar with every bite but each flavor had a unique taste to it. They were thick and filling as well. I'd say my favorite were the salted caramel and raspberry bar just because they match my flavor profile more. But I think there is a flavor for everyone! In addition the owner helped me with my order and she was incredibly nice and helpful. We will visit my friend and we stop the car to buy some brownies for them. I'm the only one who enters this place since my wife is carrying my son who is asleep. There are few people inside so I wait for a few minutes for my turn. I can't choose what to buy because they have many kinds and flavors of their brownies. I can't decide since I don't know what it tastes like. So at the end I bought a 2 box of brownies for my friend and for us. I choose different kinds of brownies to put in the back. After I paid it I went to the car and drove out to the location of my friends. While driving we taste one box of brownies. And my wife loves the taste. I also like it. It's soft, sweet and yummy. Before we visited our friend we decided to go to this place to buy a box of brownies to give to them. This is not our first time entering this place. We liked their brownies. There are some staff at the counter. They greeted us with a smile. We ordered a box of brownies with different flavors on it. Their service was really quick and you didn't wait long. Their package was good. After we paid it we went to our friend's house. When our friends tsts it they said that it was sweet and delicious. My family has gotten brownies from here for years. Before they were at this location, they were within the old Zenith plant just off of Austin Avenue. This place is pretty non-descript and it's easy to drive right by it. It's in an old inderpendent grocry store building that was pretty small. The brownies are excellent - just the right amount of sweetness and chocolate flavor. The lemon bars are excellent too, but with the brownies being SOOOO good, I rarely enjoy a lemon bar. They also serve coffee and have a few tables and chairs, and a counter that looks out over beautiful Des Plaines Ave. (That's a joke, DP Ave. is dirty and gross.) It's nothing fancy and it's not really a place to hang out at, but if you need a tray of brownies to take to work or lemon squares for a party, this is the place. They seem to be geared more towards wholesale and you may have to wait a few minutes for someone in the back to notice there's a live customer in front, but they do have some yummy treats. No espresso drinks. They also have a brownie club that sends a different brownie to a loved one (seems good for college students, or that diabetic relative you're trying to off) every month. The Dark Chocolate Truffle and Siberian Bear Claw brownies here are THE TRUTH! That's basically all there is to know, yet still I shall write more. I've been coming here for a few years, and have had the pleasure of trying many of their options here and have never really disliked anything I've tried. I will say, though, that the discounted items that I've gotten here almost always have tasted stale...but then again that's the risk you take when you buy discounted food items. The prices for these sweet wonders of the world are great, you even get a free brownie if you check-in on Yelp! Knocking off a star though for a few reasons. The first being the reason above with stale items (even if they are discounted). Next, this isn't the place that you'd want to sit and chat with a friend, granted SB uses the site to produce their products and their focus isn't on storefront. Lastly, the customer service I've gotten here (particularly one younger woman in general) hasn't been too great. On a few occasions, I have felt like this particular young woman treats me coldly, and like I'm wasting her time and agitating her by giving her employer business. Nice hidden gem in Forest Park, especially for a raw/vegan treat or brownie! I often find that folks in town are not familiar with Silverland, maybe due to the fact that it's in sort of an odd location and the "cafe" hasn't been updated in what looks like a LONG time, but their products are great! Being vegan, I really appreciate their raw vegan bars, of which there are many. The staff, which generally consists of the same lady everytime, are very pleasant and I like sitting in there sometimes, I just wish they put more effort into maintaining and sprucing up/modernizing the front of house. Right now it seems like an afterthought for the food service back of house, which is obviously the focus. Great bars and brownies, worth a stop especially if you're vegan or raw. read more

Okay, so the first time I had a brownie it was okay. This time, I found them at Whole Foods. I was thrilled to see Whole Foods offer more than just the sugar free ones that I always seem to find. They had their TRUFFLE BROWNIE, which just based on the name, has to be good. Holy crap. Was it good. It was not just good it was one of the best damn brownies I've ever had. It was rich, chocolately, moist, dense... the stars were aligned and it was the perfect combo!!!!! So this place has a lot of choices and obviously some are better than others. I also tried their pecan bar and I say a big pass on that one. But really give this brownie a whirl. And if you can't get into Forest Park, see what you can find by them at Whole Foods! Best brownies ever! Some people may have a sweet tooth, but apparently I have a brownie tooth. Needless to say, I've tried a lot of different kinds and brands. None measure up to Silverland's brownies (30 years of experience must mean they are doing something right) I was lucky to be introduced to Athena's Silverland desserts by a friend who grew up in Forest Park and I've been a loyal customer and spreading the good word ever since. (friends love getting these as holiday gifts) The richness, denseness and chocolatiness of the brownies is second to none. I'm a big chocolate fan, but Silverlands other flavors have changed my thinking. And there are so many choices, I always make sure I try a different flavor and have yet to be disappointed. Made with all natural flavors, just thinking of the brownies, makes my mouth drool. I usually order on line, (it's so easy and convenient) but whenever I get a chance I try and stop by the cafe. There, you really get to appreciate the attention to detail and the pride that goes into making each dessert. Haven't had a silver land brownie since they were located in their original location on Harlem Avenue in Elmwood Park.. Some 29 years ago! The great thing is that they are still as wonderful as they were then! What a find this was today! More like a candy bar than cake..they are dense, filled with chocolate chips and moist. I was only disappointed that they no longer make the Lemon chocolate, and orange chocolate brownie. Since having theirs way back when, I have their basic recipe that was in the newspaper many years ago, (when the opened in Elmwood Park) and have only made their recipe from scratch and always make some lemon and orange flavors. The brownies that I bought today, were wonderful. They were also priced very reasonably. Where can you get a piece of paradise for less than $1.25??? I just discovered this bakery on my quest to find vegan baked goods. It did not disappoint!! It's so close to my work so now I have to stop myself from going every day. Their vegan brownie is absolutely delicious (which btw, there is no nutritional info on this good on their website, id like to see that updated), and their raw peanut butter flax seed bar is also delicious, my husband is very picky and loved it. I'd love to see more variety of vegan products...(I also tried their pomegranate pistachio and mocha something, I wasn't a fan of those flavors but that could just be me.) read more
