Dunk Donuts is a neighborhood staple. They have been around for years and have some of the best donuts! I always receive good customer service when I visit. They have donuts, apple fritters, strudel, cookies, turnovers and even muffins. I always get a few donuts and muffins when I stop by. Everything is made fresh, on-site daily. Its best to go early while there is more of a selection because by the late afternoon, many items are gone. It is definitely a great spot to check out. read more

The adults had breakfast sandwiches to balance the donuts and they were simple, but well made. I've driven by here numerous times and my brother had said the donuts here were good. So I finally made a point of it to go and check the place out and am glad that I did. Arrived around 7:30AM on a Sunday and they had plenty of options. So I decided to try a few of them - blueberry muffin, chocolate croissant, glazed chocolate donut, maple and chocolate frosted donuts and a glazed french cruller. Thumbs up on each... while I might have had better of each type at other spots, collectively this is the best yet. Solid neighborhood doughnut spot but not necessarily worth a drive. We happened to be in the area and in need of breakfast, so we stumbled in for a couple of fried sweets to go with our morning coffee. Google maps is off by half a block if you're using it to find this place- it is the building attached to the parking lot. Bonus- dedicated free lot parking! The space is small and carry out only during these times. We stopped in around 9am on a Saturday. Like most good doughnut places, this was too late! They only had a few varieties left and were sold out of the apple fritters, coconut long johns, and many other of the varieties I had bookmarked to try based on reviews. The chocolate long john we did try was the standout - crispy exterior, fine crumb interior, and a generous spread of perfectly "set" chocolate icing. The double chocolate cake doughnut was a little disappointing. It didn't have much chocolate flavor at all. The white iced cruller was also very good. The interior was eggy and light, and their white icing was excellent. We usually gravitate towards cream filled doughnuts, but it didn't look like they had any in stock. Service was just okay, and they're cash only, so come prepared. Overall, an a-ok spot. read more

My kids enjoy the donuts here. The glazed cake is soft with the perfect amount of glaze. The cashier is just as sweet as her donuts. She always gives more treats on top of your order. Donuts are not the only thing for sale here. You can find drinks, chips, candy bars, chewing gum, antacids and more. Parking is quite scarce on the street. This place is definitely fresh and better than your chain donut place (Dunkin Donuts ahemmm) but pretty average in taste and quality. Definitely try the fritters, this is the best from this place. I was introduced to Dunk Donuts awhile back. It only took lots of whining and begging and persistence before I was brought a donut, but I finally understood the goodness that is a donut from Dunk. Can I call it Dunk? I feel like this is when my charge calls Mickey Mouse "Mick", because they're apparently buds. I digress. It wasn't until this morning in my half awake state that I finally WENT to Dunk Donuts and in the car on the way to the airport I discovered what I like about them so much. It's not that the donuts are so soft and fresh. No. It's better. It's the slight crunch in my long john. It's not like the crunch in other LJs. They have perfected the long john. They've probably perfected other donuts, but the long john is definitely my favorite. Oddly enough, everyone always says Old Fashioned has the best apple fritters around, and they are good, don't get me wrong, but there is something about Dunk's fritter that I would actually prefer them over OF's. Yeah, I said it. DD's apple fritter is better. The actual place is small. There is more room to make donuts and serve donuts and stand around behind the counter than there is to order, but I'm sure that's part of its charm. Having grown up in this town, my family and I always anointed Dunk Donuts as THE place to go for Donuts. If you had anything bad to say about Dunk Donuts, we would literally fight you. These donuts may not look like anything special to the naked eye, but one bite of these melt-in-your-mouth morsels will have you on cloud 9. 9 is the approximate number of pounds you will gain also, but don't let that deter you. Pretty much the epitome of a hole in the wall, don't expect irrational things like outstanding customer service or a big, fancy menu. That stuff is overrated. For example, they claim to make breakfast sandwiches, but I can't seem to get them to make me one. Last time I asked for one, and the lady just shook her head and mumbled some incoherent broken English to me. Fine, coffee and donuts it is. No frills really good doughnut shop. Not as eye catching as some of the doughnuts I've seen from spots like glazed and infused but really impressive doughnut to me. Walked in and was greeted with a "YOU MADE IT" smile. Really friendly owners. The only drawback for me was I wasn't sure what some of the doughnut's I was picking were so kept having to point ("no, not that one...over, over one more.... yeah that one. ) I'm sure after one or two more visits. I'll get the hang of what's my favorite. I recognize that I have a thing for crullers. This tiny donut shop had three varieties- glazed, chocolate-frosted, and white (vanilla?) frosted. I tried the chocolate and white, and they were fresh with a light, eggy texture on the inside. Delicious, but not the best I've had. Not as much frosting on them as the other shops that I've tried, and the chocolate frosting wasn't chocolatey enough for me. Chocolate cruller - 4 stars. I liked the light & eggy texture, but the frosting wasn't chocolatey enough. Compared to the heavyweight of Spunky Dunker's cruller, Dunk's is not a serious contender. Spunky's has an awesomely thick & chocolatey frosting, and their crust is superior with a fine crisp. Dunk's crust is more of a toughened shell. Analogy: American muscle car's frame (Dunk) vs. Japanese compact car's frame (Spunky). Dimples Donut's cruller would be like a Hummer lol. White (vanilla?) cruller - 3.5 stars. Good, but I preferred the chocolate. Chocolate frosted yellow cake donut - 3.5 stars. Good, but again, the frosting. The cake wasn't dry though. Glazed chocolate cake donut - 4.25 stars. I took one bite and it was so light & soft that it felt like I was eating a cupcake. This place is just the best, if you are a person that has such sweet tooth, this is definitely the best place to go to! I am telling you, when I first came here, I was actually with my friends back then and stopped by this place just to hang out, the place was a vibe! As well as their staff's, whenever we go inside they would greet us with big smiles. I would always order Donuts flavored with raspberry, it's just perfect for the taste, sweet and tasty and a little sour, their glazed and doubled chocolate one's and their birthday cake frosted donut's! The lady was I think offering me more donuts (?) when I was leaving and that's when I took the picture of her with the tray. Another favorite childhood memory of mine. My father used to work in Bellwood and sometimes would bring home donuts on a Saturday. Even better, he'd occasionally take me into the shop on a Saturday. I remember us getting their early, before sunrise, and picking out my favorites. I love their double chocolate cake donut and cake donuts cover with sprinkles. They have a slightly crusty outside and are moist in the inside. The cake donuts are covered with a cream on top to keep the sprinkles on that is like whip cream. Gym or Dunk Donuts? Gym or Dunk Donuts? Those were my two options to do after Max woke up from his nap...well...I think it's pretty obvious what won. Fatty. Anyways..I TOTALLY almost passed this place up while driving down Lake St.! The front and inside are both pretty dingy and old school, but don't let that deter you! The two Asian women behind the counter were SUPER friendly (almost looked like a mom and daughter) and kept talking to my kids which doesn't always happen. Awww... So I told her I would get a half dozen since it is cash only and I had a whopping $7 on me. I ordered a couple buttermilk, chocolate cake, vanilla long john, jelly and a french crueller. Well...she didn't stop there...she threw in two extra doughnuts and a muffin. All for the price of the doughnuts which was $5.15 with tax. So I just gave her all the $7 while she said goodbye to my sons for like 2 minutes...so.cute. AND so generous...I mean she didn't have to do that! Now to the doughnuts. I tried the chocolate, crueller and the buttermilk and ALL of them are delicious!!! The buttermilk and crueller are my favorites! The buttermilk is greasy-crunchy, in a good way, on the outside with a light glaze and soft on the inside with a sweet, salty and slightly almond-y flavor. Perfection! And the crueller was SO soft and egg-y, just how I like my cruellers. I will def be back and recommend that everyone get their fat ass over there and pick up a dozen...you're hips and ass will thank you! =] read more
