Super cute place. The food was great, the outdoor seating area was nice, and the service was good. Ordered the savoury waffles and the lentil soup. The savoury waffles were topped with avocado, cheese, sundried tomatoes and sriracha sauce. The waffles themselves were light and airy while the toppings were fresh. I had never had anything like it before, and will definitely order it again when I'm in the neighbourhood. It is not however substantial enough to be a meal in itself. The lentil soup was incredible. The spices melded together perfectly to create a rich, hearty flavour. It reminded me of dal makhani (Indian cuisine) more than Middle Eastern style lentil soup. Service was quick. The staff were not overly friendly, but were totally unpretentious. The cafe was cozy and the restroom was clean. Overall, I recommend a visit here if you are in the Oak Park area and want to pick up something quick and light. read more

So it's Juneteenth , I'm going to an apt showing because I'm moving back to Chicago. I loved the apartment and decide to see what's nearby because I love a good coffee shop. I see this place and decide to check it out. First, it's very busy . It's about 11am on a Saturday so kind of expected. It's very small in the inside so probably not a spot for a group larger than 3 or 4. Seating is limited although they do have some outside seating. They will bring your order to you even if you sit outside which is nice. First sip, solid latte. I got the salted caramel , iced. It could've had more caramel but that's just a preference . I also got the gusto waffle , delicious. Mind you I don't love waffles like that but I would def get it again. Fingers crossed I get this appt so that I can come here more. read more

They have nice beverages and all made fresh. There are several food options and some made there, that all looks good l, but have not had any. The staff almost seem bothered we are there the few times we have been. The place has a slight layer of dust on paintings and all the Knick-knacks laying about. I enjoyed my time as Addis. On the corner on oak park avenue, Addis spices things up with their Ethiopian flare to coffee, non caffeinated beverages and breakfast dishes. Walking in, it appears to be a large space. However it's a smidge crowded in regards to how they set the tables. I ordered the chechebsa dish for $8,00 and it's a Ethiopian heavily spice flatbread dish sprinkled with honey. I never had it before but this was really good. A little dry for my liking but i had the berry smoothie to wash it down. I will be returning to try other dishes. read more

Day 1 of my Oak Park Coffee Tour! Finding all the best spots for a cup of Joe. My go-to coffee order is usually an iced matcha, but this place had so many unique coffees that I felt I had to try something different. I got their cayenne mocha, which was absolutely beautiful. A lovely mocha with just a hint of spice, a perfect balance of sweet and a kick. I also got a scone, which was yummy. Buttery and with pieces of craisin which I always appreciate. I sat at a table by the window and did some work. The one thing is that the service was a bit slow, I waited around 10 minutes to get my 2 things, but it was a pretty busy day so understandable. This is a great place to work, but it also looked popular with families, who seemed to enjoy all the yummy waffle flavors they had. There is also a cute outside area which I did not take advantage of (hot coffee on hot day dont mix well) but will have to check out in the future. This is a small cafe in a neighborhood within walking distance from the train station and close to Rush Oak Park Hospital. They opened early at 7 am which was a convenient option for me before I needed to head to the hospital. I ordered one of the special coffees, rose water latte. I had it iced. It had a strong rose scent so I liked it very much. Usually flavored coffees don't have their claimed flavors so I was happy to try the rose water latte there. I also got Savory waffles because the pictures on here look good. The waffles did taste amazing. I liked all the healthy ingredients (avocado, bell pepper, etc) included in the waffles. However, I wish they could have told me there's blue cheese in them because I dislike blue cheese. They did ask for my preference for spicy level. The Savory waffles were barely spicy. I was going to order one of their special foods but they said it's spicy so I didn't order it. 1 star off because it was very hot in there and NO GUEST WIFI. I wonder if the AC was working while I dined in there. I would come again in spring or fall when it's not too hot or too cold. read more

Came to Addis Cafe on Saturday afternoon. We ordered an Iced Matcha 16oz ($6), 12oz Cold Brew ($4.25 I think), and Savory Waffles ($11). Loved the cold brew especially on the almost 80F day today, and the savory waffles were okay but were even better with some hot sauce (I'm the person that drowns everything they eat in hot sauce, so this is just a 'me' issue lol). I got the salted caramel waffle and holy cow. It was amazing, I have never been so enamored by the texture of a waffle before. First of all, the Chechebsa. You must get this! The spices in this are so good. We got it to share, but I could see myself eating this on my own. I got the Egg Sandwich. I thought it was pretty filling! I didn't finish it. I liked the roll too, it was crunchy but soft. I ordered a pour-over coffee, which you can get in a lighter roast or darker. I opted for lighter and it was very flavorful. It's in a great little spot too! read more

Love this neighborhood cafe. I've been coming here since they opened a few years ago. Their new corner space is so beautiful! They even have a nice outdoor seating area during the summer! As far as the coffees, they're really yummy, and they have a variety of coffees and specialty lattes to choose from! They have the best vanilla latte as they make their vanilla in house. You'll never want to go back to store-bought vanilla flavoring. (I drank my coffee too fast so no photo :)) Lastly, you've got to try their waffles and scones. They're so good!! Very disappointed. First time finding this hidden gem, however the coffee and food were very disappointing. I ordered the tumeric latte, one of my favorite drinks anywhere I go. I saw they have it, so I ordered it. I also ordered the jalapeños sandwich. I get my drink, and it's not tumeric, so I take it back and tell the cashier, I ordered the tumeric latte, she said, that is. To my surprise, I asked if I can get then something else, and she said, no sorry you already drank from the cup. ( my face expression) well, yeah, I took a sip and it's not what I ordered. Then, the egg sandwich, no jalapeños, I asked for them, and she said, that's extra. EXTRA? The sandwich is called Jalapeño Sandwich. Well, I won't be going there again. read more

Met up with a friend here for coffee and it was a great decision! I loved the vibe of the shop, I was met with friendly faces and smiles by staff, which made me feel at home. I've been wanting to try some authentic Ethiopian coffee and so glad I found this place! Definitely like the colorful ambiance and many caffeinated options! Not pictured, but I got the Honey Nutmeg Cinnamon Latte! The presentation of the crema was just as good as it tasted. My only regret is that I wish I got the 12oz instead of the 8oz! I thought the 8oz would have been bigger than it was, but it was probably for the better or else I'd turn into Tigger from Winnie the Pooh - just bouncing all over the place! So my quest to find awesome local coffee shops continues and we stopped into Addis Cafe to try it out on Saturday 01/04/20. It has gotten really good reviews and I wanted to check it out. I wasn't let down and was very, very happy with my cup of coffee. I've said this in other reviews, but places like Addis are why I love Yelp. I never would have known about it, but wow am I happy I found it. First the basics, this is located off Oak Park Avenue and there is plenty of street parking. It's also pretty accessible by public transportation and within walking distance to the many, many residences nearby. It's got a great decor and a very welcoming feeling. The employees are super friendly and knowledgeable. They were inviting and answered all my questions. There is also free WiFi so you can get some done if you need to. The coffee rocks, point blank, end of story. I got a dark roast pour over and literally almost ordered a second cup immediately. My girlfriend got the light roast and was a big fan. There are lot of lattes and some cool food options as well. I would love to try a scone next time. They looked amazing, so did the red velvet cupcakes/muffins. New to the neighborhood short staffed but cordial. Addis is a delicious coffee shop with some yummy treats. High praise for the scone compote it was delicious. The turmeric latte was pretty not too sweet and the perfect level of spice. Egg sandwich, was slightly disappointing the eggs were cooked in a waffle iron leaving them dry, but sriracha mayo livened it up. I had the seasonal special chechebsa which was a traditional Ethiopian flatbread. While it was very flavorful it would have been much improved with a fried egg on top. In search of local iconic lattes so we won't have to go continue driving to the north side of Chicago- we visited Addis for our 2nd visit, and sadly there will not be a 3rd. 1st time visit the waffle machine was out, and we waited 15 minutes before we were told. One woman next to us informed the staff to give her lattes to someone else because she waited too long and had to leave. We attempted a 2nd visit today, wasn't as busy as the 1st visit, they seemed fully staffed & we still waited 25 minutes for two 12oz lattes to go that tasted like hot water with some flavoring added. Awfully disappointed. Staff seem highly disorganized and with plenty of heads behind the counter the wait time and service could be better.
