RH is an experience, and as such it commands a premium, an outrageous premium at that, you will probably faint if you check the salads prices but hey, what are you even doing at RH if you are looking at the prices! The rooftop restaurant is gorgeous, with ample and bright space indoor and plenty of space outdoor (caveat, only limited menu outside). Believe it or not, RH restaurants are famous for the caviar service, but this time we just got a snack and a couple of drinks to check the place out since it was our first time trying the Corte Madera spot. I recently visited the Restoration Hardware restaurant in Corte Madera with a friend over Memorial Day weekend, and unfortunately, my experience left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman downstairs and directed to the restaurant on the third floor. Upon reaching the host stand, we let the host know that we were a party of two. We were immediately told there was a one-and-a-half-hour wait. My friend asked whether reservations were required, and the host explained that it was simply due to the holiday weekend. While we understood that holiday weekends can be busy, what was confusing was that the restaurant did not appear particularly crowded. There were numerous empty tables visible, and there were no other parties waiting ahead of us. We accepted the wait time and decided to order a drink and sit in an outdoor area the host said we could use while waiting. However, as we were heading outside, the host suddenly informed us that a table that had just been seated had immediately gotten up and left, and that we could take their table. We went from being quoted a 90-minute wait to being seated almost instantly. The abrupt change made the original wait time difficult to understand. As we sat and enjoyed our cocktails and appetizers, we continued to observe guests arriving. Throughout our visit, we watched multiple parties approach the host stand and be seated immediately. We did not observe anyone else being quoted the lengthy wait time we had been given. Additionally, there were still no visible groups waiting to be seated. I am of Jamaican descent, and my friend is Central American. While I cannot say with certainty why we were initially told there would be such a long wait, the experience left me feeling singled out and questioning whether our appearance played a role in how we were treated. It was an uncomfortable feeling that unfortunately overshadowed what could have otherwise been an enjoyable visit. The food and drinks were fine, and some staff members were very pleasant. However, first impressions matter, and this experience left me with concerns about how guests are welcomed and accommodated. Because of how uncomfortable the situation made me feel, I do not plan to return. We purchased a very large quantity of outdoor metal furniture in 2009 from when RH was on University. Over the years, there's been quite a lot of chipping, so I went to the store to find out how to get it fixed, since we were told this expensive furniture came with a lifetime warranty (the purchase price was about $13,000, and those are 2009 dollars!) After a long wait, I was finally put in touch with Matt MaGill. I gave him the original receipt, explained the situation, and he promised he'd discuss it with his team and get back to me. Over the course of the week, I had to keep checking in with him repeatedly to get a response. He finally wound up saying they weren't going to do a single thing for me; he only suggested I contact a repair shop and pay them to fix it. I was pretty stunned, so I suggested as a compromise he give me some kind of discount so I can purchase new cushions for the furniture to at least make it look better. In spite of repeated requests, he simply ignored the email without the courtesy of a reply. Suffice it so say, I will NEVER be going business with RH again. VERY disappointing, particularly since I bought so much of their stuff in the past. read more

This is one of the most gorgeous venues in the area. Even on a cloudy rainy day, the chandelier sparkle, and the indoor trees are beautiful. Seating is comfy, the wait staff is impeccable. Great design, but cheap materials. The dining table base rusted an unremovable stain onto my carpet with just a little dampness. The chairs' finish is already wearing through after a few years of minimal use, and the fabric is substandard. To their credit, they did send me another table base and a crew to install it, but the damage to the carpet was irreversible. read more

The customer service was deplorable!!!! Salesperson remained seated on a sofa at the far end of the store upon our entry; acted as if it was a burden to even attempt a minimal greeting. My mother and I were in the area shopping and decided to stop by RH for a drink around 2pm on a Tuesday. As we entered the rooftop terrace, we were met with a very rude female hostess, who appeared to not be in the best of moods. We were not greeted, but got "Do you have a reservation?" We told her no, but we would be fine sitting outside with a drink, as we did not need a table in the dining area. She told us we could wait 45 mins. Then a gentleman worker came up and asked "what's going on?" We told him what we asked for and he said we could go to the bar for only beer, wine or coffee. We walked out. #buyerbeware I am super annoyed with Restoration Hardware. After spending $3000 on a "solid wood" table, the top vener gummed up with regular wear and tear. I am so sad I didn't take a picture of that! It looked terrible, so we had to cover it with a table cloth. They would not replace it even though we notified them within 30 days of purchasing. They said it was not defective, but our fault for damaging the table. The problem was that the table continued to be damaged by just placing plates and utensils on it. They also recommended a repair kit, which we purchased, but was completely useless. So we decided to refinish it, Since we thought it was solid wood. We should have been able to stand down a layer or two and get to something that we could stain. Instead we spent hours of standing through multiple veneers to get through to the very last layer, which is pieces of plywood put together and not solid wood. I am super disappointed in Restoration Hardware because they are not an inexpensive brand and I thought they were higher quality, but clearly they are not. I am fit to be tied. I am a member of Restoration Hardware's Members Program. I have received better pricing on several purchases of furniture, and home goods. Recently I wanted to change my couch pillow covers. I ordered a set that looked beautiful online. Unfortunately the color was not as accurately shown in photos, and did not provide the contrast I required for the look I wanted to achieve. I naively called Customer Service so they could send me a return shipper. Come to find out, I would have to pay for return shipping myself. Really??? I was just to busy to drive to their closest retail location, so I bit the bullet and paid $37.68 (had to pay to insure package contents adequately) for the pleasure of trying them out in my lovely home. I have been trying not to chew on it, but my service at the Corte Madeira RH was nothing short of horrible Friday. I went there to select three (yes, three) bathroom cabinets. The first person I asked about bathroom cabinets was confused. Once I repeated ,"bathroom cabinets", she told me, No, they didn't have the cabinets on display. They recommend people look online. What? She then proceeded to disappear rather than finding me someone to help. I decided to leave, but the very helpful young man in the front responded beautifully when I told him how frustrated I was. Unfortunately, he sent someone to help me who was very unhelpful. She couldn't even explain how two samples of the same marble were COMPLETELY different. One was cream and beige, the other was black and white. Same marble type (it had to be a mistake). She just said she couldn't explain it. When I asked how I could order it if I had no idea what it would look like, she just said she didn't know what she could tell me. I saw the Restoration Hardware sign and actually looked forward to walking in. It immediately went downhill from there. This is not anything like the original RH down south. No real hardware choices to be found anywhere. All mass produced hardware of designer styles of sort, and minimal options? This was not vaguely close to the original store, with actual vintage and antique hardware and fixtures, where you could find hard to find details to complete your remodeling project. I also walked through every room in this retail shop and not one person said hello or even engaged me as a customer, absolutely no customer service. Mass produced overpriced fixtures, poor customer service, it's amazing the size of this brick and mortar store and it seems to miss the mark completely of what it was supposed to represent. Low quality furniture with deceptive and expensive set up crew. Spent a fortune on what I thought would be a very nice desk only to detect manifest defect, where one of the legs was conspicuously not flush, protruding and creating risk of snags. This is in sharp contrast to the high quality and ethical product and service I have received from Williams Sonoma and affiliated brands - the two companies delivered on the same afternoon and the quality and professionalism was night and day. I just purchased a table online after first visiting the Corte Madera store because the saleswoman was beyond rude. Maybe it was that I was only interested in one piece of furniture or that I asked where most of the furniture is made (Answer: CHINA!!) She dismissed my interest in the table and didn't even look up from her iPad to say "bye". Once home I bought the table online hoping that it's not poorly built crap by outsourced cheap labor. When paying $$$$ I expect that I'm buying well-made pieces built by skilled American or European craftspeople as is the case with Room & Board, Crate & Barrel, etc. Fingers crossed. read more

The price of merchandise at RH does not translate to quality. We ordered an entire house full of furniture after a massive remodel. The cloud sectional arrived with a hole in the fabric, but not noticed immediately as this is a vacation home and we were not there for the delivery. Also, after only 6 months of part time use, the corners of the sectional are beginning to collapse. The aviator chairs arrived with 2 different types of material in the seating area, one extremely firm, the other very soft. When this was noticed, we were informed this was not returnable. Obviously, a customer would not order different firmnesses. There is quality to be had elsewhere with the back up of customer service, not to be had here. read more

This review has to do with automatic renewal of Membership: Hey, do you have RH membership? They auto renew without your permission - and when you go to cancel it, they don't cancel it until NEXT year, charging you another $108. Also they try to bill your card for 3 cents which triggered a FRAUD alert from our bank and they were set to cancel our card. UNBELIEVABLE. And to make matters worse we got a text message in the middle of the night, it woke me up (phone in other room but heard it) and it actually fell off the table from the buzzing sound and we thought someone was in the house. I called RH, and they did say they would refund my $. But really this is bad business practice. I explained this to the customer service rep and she said they get lots of complaints like this. But clearly their auto renewal of membership is profitable for them and they are not about to change it. read more

I was told by another RH that this RH is huge and would have the furniture that I was deciding on. It is a goal of mine to sit in things before buying them. So we drove 80 miles to visit this store. When we walked around the store, I noticed that, by practicing symmetry in design, they utilize the same furniture in multiple rooms. By doing so, they showcased a limited selection of furniture. The store is big. However, the lack of diversity in their selections left out many furniture pieces. So we drove 80 miles and left with a feeling they need better designers. read more

I walked into the new RH and spent a long time looking at furniture and bedding. I walked through every single room in the building, passed by several sales people who were not engaged with customers, and yet not a single employee greeted me nor asked if I needed help. Not even the man in the entryway area who I assume is the "greeter"- he acted as if I were invisible. I was ready to make a purchase but felt so slighted, I walked over to Crate and Barrel in the same mall where the employee was very friendly and helpful. I bought an Asbury Train Rack style shelf for my downstairs half-bathroom from RH. I MOSTLY love this store (read with Billy Crystals voice in Princess Bride) I just went there, and during the holidays you would think they would have a plethora of cool, vintage offerings to stocking stuff! It seemed a bit overrun with "Techie" electro gadget type gobbldy goop. I did fall in love with a few items- A tiny portable espresso maker, The Board games, Clue was so "neato" and the Puppets are stellar! Any child would be too happy with a set of those charming guys, and might I add... better off using a few brain cells for creative play as well! ( I have to drive to the gallery at the design center in SF instead because they actually treat you nicely there). This time someone actually asked me if I needed help! But after she sat down with me she did not take her eyes off of her computer screen to help me decide on fabrics that would go with the furniture that I had already purchased. Here I am a customer wanting to spend more money at their store but the sales person made me feel like I was taking up her precious time. Every time I go in here they look at me like I am a creature from the black lagoon!! I just don't understand this attitude that the sales people have in here. Yea, this place is $$$$, some of it comically so, but we bit the bullet and bought some "investment pieces" to furnish our new house. (Whoever came up with that phrase clearly didn't understand that the furniture is a depreciating asset.) I think they need more salespeople here, as I felt like we had to wait a really long time for someone to be available and we almost left. I was surprised at their lack of knowledge of the products, turning to the website to answer most questions (so I guess we could have saved ourselves a trip and done that at home). But the service was better than their SOMA location, where we went for an interior design consultation and they never followed up with their recommendation. I guess there's no motivation to if they don't work on commission. Oh well, that made it easier to avoid handing over our life savings to buy things I never knew I needed. The best thing about this store is the lack of cash registers. I love handing over my goods or returns and relaxing on a ridiculous comfy couch while one of the associates processes it. I have bought a LOT of stuff over the past year from RH (at the store, online and at the outlet). This review is for the Corte Madera store specifically and is really a 4.5, but I am rolling it up to a 5 for consistent good service. Customer Service (4.5/5) Very patient with my questions (even the stupid ones) and were happy to exchange stuff that arrived when I was not completely happy with it. RH customer service over the phone have also been great when following up on order. My only small gripe is that there were definitely times where it was a long wait to speak to one of the designers in the store (one visit, pre-COVID, had over an hour wait). Having said that, when you do speak to a designer, they take full care of you and you do not feel rushed. Designer (4.5/5) The designer I worked with was pretty good (but not great - see my Arhaus review for comparison) in terms of bringing ideas to the table, but was definitely more than willing to help in any way she could. She also offered a discount to us because we had incurred a fire, which she did not have to do and genuinely made a huge difference for us when having to replace so much furniture. Delivery (4.5/5) Deliveries and assembly of furniture were generally professional, efficient and timely. Took away all of the packaging and listened to my directions (delivery to my place can be challenging due to a tight entrance and stairway). There was one delivery team (out of about 7 deliveries) with a over-eager team member that resulted in marked walls. There was one piece of furniture that took 7 months to deliver (due to COVID), so overall giving them a 4.5. read more

Overall, this is a nice version of a RH store. It doesn't have everything but that's quite alright. I don't need to see every single item they offer. They have gigantic catalogs for that. We were in over the weekend (8/19/18) and remembered that this store is just nice to walk around in and get ideas sometimes. I've always received great service at this location whether I buy something or not. There's always been someone nearby to ask a question and they're quick to help. I'm really looking forward to their new building that's being built directly across from where they're located now in Corte Madera. My quest for decorating my apartment brought me here, among other places. Restoration hardware isn't for the faint of finance. You're coming here for quality goods at double the cost of what you'll find at other retailers. One of the things that's kind of annoying is ordering from RH. If it's a catalog only item, even if you have it shipped to the store, they'll charge you for shipping. You'd expect that at a high end retailer like this, they'd find a way to make your shopping experience easier. Nevertheless, I did order a 3 sconce bathroom lighting fixture. Ironically, I got it to match the other furniture in the bathroom, which came directly from China, at a tenth of the cost. I'm hoping it will be absolutely awesome once it's installed. I rarely rate companies anymore because for the most part I have had great service since we should be moving into an era where "value" and "service" should come hand in glove, but as with all great things, there comes a time when you are forced to rethink your trust in humanity, and this store is the catalyst for my change in heart. Unfortunately this store in particular is going to get the bad review over the others, because after 5 visits to other stores in hopes of walking away with our purchase (I know, I shouldn't be so greedy in my purchasing desires), we didn't walk away with our desired purchase, but instead a fluffy bath mat! I would give them an extra star since my feet were very happy this morning stepping onto a world of warmth and softness, but I don't want to increase their ratings - so I've opted against it. Back to the review. You cannot buy and take home anything from this place! Maybe one of those moss covered boxes that sits on their "display only" tables. But other than that, nada! After being told that we need to call in advance to get our items from the stock room around the corner. I call back the next morning, and after speaking to 2 pretty snarky (not going to say bitchy, because I get those days too) - but call me crazy if the common courtesy shouldn't apply to a Restoration Hardware employee, ladies get told I need to wait for a call back which didn't happen after checking the stock room; twice. on my 3rd call, I finally spoke to a nice guy called Brian who told me......wait for it: OUT OF STOCK. So after 4 phone calls, 5 visits, 2 snarky encounters I have a grand total of nothing I wanted, but two very happy feet! read more

How is it possible for a family to go to Restoraion Hardware for 30 minutes and not get helped? My husband approached a clerk to ask for a piece of paper and a pen to draw out the layout of our patio to plan which pieces of furniture would fit, and got a really snotty response. My husband is really mellow, but he noticed it, and wondered what was wrong with the woman who was supposed to be helping us, but was really just ignoring everyone there. This place is the pits for customer service; it's not just negligent, it's snotty, which is a much worse sin, in my opinion.
