I have shopped quite a little at this store over the years. They have lovely pieces, it's beautifully laid out, and I normally find just what I need for a perfect gift. Also they have good price range of items. However, I have noticed, especially the last few times I've come in, an uncomfortable vibe that takes away from the enjoyment of browsing. I don't find the staff particularly friendly or genuine. Perhaps walking in in workout clothes after a hike is not the right attire to enter the store, but whatever it is I find the lack of welcome off-putting enough to write this review and avoid this store. read more

Interesting store with lots of beautiful glass items, French-style items, textiles and really nice Diptyque candles. My wife and I have shopped in this store a few times, each time leaving with a little something. Their customer service is hit or miss. We've had both very nice people offering to assist and some that were less friendly. Customer service doesn't seem to be their number one concern unfortunately. Overall, it's a great place to find a unique gift for someone and it's certainly an inspirational place to shop for your own home. read more

This is my wife's favorite store and the go-to for me and my sons to find gifts that we know she'll love. Beyond having high quality and unique gifts (glassware. Jewelry, home items, robes, etc.), they provide excellent service. That includes the time when I showed up five minutes after they closed... on my anniversary. Yikes. Rather than turning me away, they let me in and then thoughtfully helped me pick a few pieces that my wife loved. I highly recommend this store for great gifts and great service! read more

I was shopping for my mother for Christmas when I spotted the perfect item in the window of the store. Excited I went in to get it and inquired about their return policy ( my mom has very specific tastes and I wanted to make sure should could exchange it if necessary). "30 days." Said the first associate. And then the older, snarky, sour women behind her looked at me and said "final sale." Did I just get Pretty Woman-ed!? Left the product and got out of there. We had a problem with a hidden defect in a beautiful blown glass pitcher we bought a year + ago. I asked Michelle, the owner, if they still carried it so we could replace it and she immediately offered to talk to the company to see if they would replace it. Two days later they said yes! We have always been delighted with the courtesy, knowledge, professionalism and humor of the team, and they really came through this time. read more

Boy, I have no idea how anyone comes away giving this store a low review, and was shocked to see a couple of them! I've been shopping there for years and absolutely love this store. The clerks are helpful but not pushy. I don't like anyone hovering over me when I shop and they don't, but they'll happily offer to open a case or help me try something on. They even make an effort to remember everyone's names! Besides that, they have dog cookies behind the counter for my dogs, which makes going in there extra nice for me and for them. Once a friend went in to buy a gift for me, since he knew I liked their selections. He described who I am and they remembered me and said they didn't remember me buying much for myself, but they remembered the items I'd purchased for other people, to see if that would give him a jumpstart for finding something for me. I was floored at everything they remembered about my purchases (including the fact that I mostly shop for others)! He came away with a beautiful clock, which was perfect. I like that their items are all so special, but also in all price ranges, and yes, the gift wrap is the most beautiful of any of the stores. The wrap makes the gift look like twice as much as it is! Also, I like supporting independent businesses that support the community and I happen to know that this store has been generous with local nonprofits. Nice store with lovely items even though pricey. One of the reasons I loved to shop there, even though I could find their items elsewhere or on line, was because of their beautiful elegant feather gift wrap that distinguished them from their competitors. They discontinued that wrapping to save money and productivity time. So now I hardly ever go there because I can get any of their products elsewhere (and even for less) and wrap them myself because I don't really want their current cheap looking wrapping that doesn't fit with the prices you pay for at the store. I disagree with the negative reviews. The ladies who work there aren't exactly the most friendly people in the world, but they're certainly helpful when you need something. And they practically force you to let them wrap any gift you buy there, no matter the price. We're talking a great wrapping job, too--nice box, a sticker, ric-rac ribbon and billowy feathers on top. They have a fun selection of housewares, including Simon Pearce glassware, as well as great gifty candles and toiletries and baby items. Plus, they carry the best baby gift ever: Aden and Anais swaddle blankets. These blankets are usually sold in packs of 2 ($30) or 4, but Columbine breaks the packs up to sell them as singles for $13, making them an ideal gift when you can't spend a bundle. The icing on top for me is that there is always a little bowl of Dutch mints at the counter, with a little spoon that beckons you to enjoy one...or three. read more

This is a great place to buy gifts and stock up on French candles, soaps and table linens. The very small selection of French children's books and clothing is expensive but ok for a special gift. I've shopped here for several years and haven't felt any bad attitude from the staff, they've always been helpful to me. read more

My son (very well behaved) stopped in today to have a look around. Smelling candles when I saw a piece I was interested in. The individual with whom I spoke seemed disinterested in helping me, and more concerned with thinking my son was going to break something. I just don't get when you have a store like this how you aren't bending over backwards to make a sale. I just spent $20k on remodeling my fireplace, so I think I can afford your hutch. read more

I've shopped at Columbine for years..it is my go to place for gifts, holidays, jewelry, home goods and design. Michele and her team are all lovely, thoughtful and know their store and customers so well. The selection is amazing - from small, unique gifts and the most wonderful handcrafted items to large furniture pieces and linens - at all price points. If they carry a line and don't have a specific item, they order it for you. I don't think you can go in without finding several things you would love to have or give. They also do several community fundraisers each year - hosting local charities and featuring local designers. We are so lucky to have Columbine in Marin! p.s. Everything in this small boutique is just beautiful. Like many home shops, they tend to favor French-themed items with heavy price tags. That being said, if you like this kind of stuff, you'll enjoy perusing. Dark wood interior, high ceilings and lots of light from big shop front windows. From pedestal platters to rich soaps to silver to jewelry, I always find great gifts or a little something for our home. They have a lovely selection of letterpress cards from elum, Hello Lucky and Egg Press as well. Warning: it is in a 'mall' but it's outdoors and not too bad. read more

I just had a great experience shopping here. I have long-admired this store's great jewelry collection. Columbine specializes in offering unique jewelry from local deisigners. I finally decided on a necklace from designer Margaret Solow. Josephina ( I hope I have her correct name!) patiently helped me with with my final selection. She was very knowledgeable about the designs and stones. My shopping experience could not hae been better. First of all the name...Columbine is a flower and has been for a longer time than the unfortunate event in Colorado. I think of the flower when I go in. I am a long time customer and I LOVE this shop. It's one of my favorites. I have bought baby shower gifts, wedding gifts and gifts for myself. The staff is sometimes reserved, but very helpful and not pushy which I appreciated. They also do a wonderful gift wrap. I've bought gifts for friends here, and friends have bought gifts for me - the jewelry selection is small but very pretty. The prices range from super affordable (around $40) to more aspirational ($$$$). But either way you can find something delightful. The rest of the store is chock full of fancy, extremely well made home goods that you would expect to see in the showrooms of home designers. Sterling silver platters & serving forks, handmade beeswax candles, table linens actually made of linen. Much of it is pricey, but it's appropriately priced for what you get. I have shopped at Columbine since they were in their old location, back then they were warm and friendly. I have spent a fair amount of money there over the years, and the last time I shopped, about 4-5 months ago, I did too. I bought something that I later wanted to purchase as a 50th birthday present for a dear friend becase she loves it. As it was the day I spent a bit of money months ago, the staff was snooty and unhelpful, frankly right on the edge of flat out rude. I bought anyway, and then, I called about a week ago to inquire about the piece of jewelry I had purchased so that I could buy one for my friend, and I was informed, rather dryly, that they no longer carried that particular piece, but other pieces would come in from that vendor soon. I asked for the name of the vendor, after explaining why I wanted that particular bracelet, and was told NO, they would not tell me who it was. ARE YOU FU@KING KIDDING ME??!! What rude obnoxious people!! I guess they can pick and choose who they want as clients in the middle of a recession, and be rude to boot. Well, have at it, you bitches, you lost my business and any possible recommendations. read more

We are so lucky to have this store in Marin. They carry a wide array of home goods, table accessories, jewelry, baby items, bath luxuries....all curated and beautifully presented. If the sales people are a bit reserved and dignified, it's okay. They are also well versed in their inventory, knowledgeable and in my experience, have great taste. When they stopped carrying an import product I loved, they wrote down all the vendor info where I could get some more. They are proud of a very lovely store and have some fragile and expensive items on display. They have always been courteous to me no matter how small my purchase, even if just a few candles and a pretty matchbox, and always do a lovely gift wrap. I think because this store is in a mall, it attracts a lot of "just looking" folks, which is fine, but it's not a place for wild kids or bargain shoppers. As with a lot of independently owned boutiques, the owners don't have the luxury of offering lavish return policies and many things are seasonal. For the shopper with the bad return experience, I have never heard of a store doing anything different from what was offered. Without a store receipt, a credit is always for the current price of an item. With a receipt, the credit is usually what you paid, as long as you return it within the specified time. Columbine did nothing unusual. read more
