I typically go to the Anthropologie in Palo Alto since it's closer to my work, but today it just made more sense to make a visit to Corte Madera for other errands. I had a great experience here. I did a return, and also browsed their sale section, which was quite expansive. I was able to find these really cute jeans in my size, that were an additional 50% off, although final sale. Their sale rack was very organized, and very plentiful. There was a whole room full of tops, and two racks of jeans. There were even more random sale items throughout the store, not in the sale section. I was quite surprised. I waited in line twice, once to return, and once to buy my jeans. Neither wait was long at all - just one person ahead of me, quite quick. I don't know why this store such poor reviews, because I had a pleasant experience here! read more

Well coming from the other side of the bridge, I am not used to such a wonderfully large Anthropologie! This store is wonderful. I won't bother with others after shopping here. The staff was helpful, without being intrusive. I found so many fabulous treasures. I did however stick to their sale items, which narrowed down my expense. Horrible rude and incompetent cashier. If you're having a bad day and work in retail, don't take it out on the next customer. A young blond girl rang up my purchase on Monday 7/22. She was super standoffish, never looked at me, didn't greet me. She put the clothes in the bag, unfolded and messy with no tissue. At the end, asked if I wanted my receipt emailed, printed or both. I said emailed. Later, as I was already on my way home, I realized she never asked me to input my email address, so I have no receipt and no proof of what I paid for my purchase in case I changed my mind. I picked few cute items to try on with my mom. The staffs in the fitting room were very helpful and very friendly. However, the cashier doesn't seem to have a happy day! She said in very low volume "I will be right with you" with a very unhappy face. After she is ready, she pointed to me that the line starts somewhere else. There was another customer in line and that customer was not there when she said "I will be right with you". She should have told me the line starts there at the beginning. I didn't want to argue with her and I don't mind to wait behind that customer. When I got home, I found the security device is still attached to the skirt I bought. Strange interaction. I purchased two skirts, same style, different sizes. I actually tried them on, but I couldn't decide which fit I preferred, so I purchased them both to try on at home with different shoes, top, etc. A woman rung me up at the register that faces the door (mentioning this for a reason). I paid, got a receipt and walked a few steps to the door and the alarm went off. Another associate quickly came over and asked to see my receipt, I showed it to her, and asked if she could look in the bag, and added "don't worry, we do this to EVERYONE." They actually don't....because I've been in the store several times when the alarm goes off and no one comes or they waive the person on. At the same time, it's their right to ask to look, but they don't do it to everyone. Anyway, I said yes you can look and she pulls out the skirts and holds them up. She asks why I have two of the same skirt, which isn't really her business since I paid for them both, but I told her. And then she spots the sensors and said oh they forgot to remove them. Remember how I said I checked out at the register facing the door? Well the cashier was still there watching, never said oh she paid for those and didn't apologize for neglecting to remove the sensors. I don't know if it was on purpose, but she didn't see either sensor as she rung me up? Of course everyone nearby is staring as if I stole something, which isn't a great feeling. Visited the store yesterday in Corte Madera as San Francisco location is now closed. I picked a few items to try on. Waited for more than 8 minutes or so with no one in line to try on. An employee, a tall dark haired women with short hair completely ignored me while she was catering to a women trying on clothes and fetching her a purse and commenting on how her outfit looked etc. This employee never said "I'll be right with you, etc". Completely ignored me so I left without trying and purchasing anything. Poor customer service. The store itself is nice with lots of light, sale room is messy. As another reviewer commented it reminds me of a Ross. Plenty of employees in the store but not at register as there is always a long line with only two registers open. The clothes has deteriorated in quality over the years, yet the prices have increased significantly. The sales associates at the register have always been cheerful and helpful. read more

I'm reviewing Anthropologie's online service. I placed an order in mid-November for 9 gift items totaling slightly over $425.00 including shipping, tax, and gift wrapping. I charged it to my credit card (approved), and had it sent to my mom's address. It was cancelled, however, I never received notification of the cancellation. I found out when I tried to track the shipment. I reordered the items, substituting some as many were not available. Again, my credit card was approved and the order went through. I thought. But, when I tried to track it, I learned that it had been cancelled. This time, I called customer service. Customer service could not tell me why but urged me to place my order again and said it would be fine. Ha! Like Charlie Brown, I fell for it. Another hour or so wasted ad I shopped on the website trying to find great sticking stuffers for each of my mom's nine caregivers. Again, $450++ approved by my Amex card. Bam! This time, Anthropologie cancelled my order within the hour. I called customer service. They said they could not help me but would send me an email within five days. Needless to say, I switched to Plan B. Today, I received a notice from Urban Outfitters (the parent company) stating they had solved MY problem. What? Waited a long time to pay with $500+ worth of clothing in my arms. Waited 15 mins, thought of leaving, had no acknowledgement from staff and other staff were walking around but didnt come help out at cash register. It wasnt particularly busy and they had a lot of staff on duty. Anyway, this isnt my complaint. The clothes are cute but cheaply made. Could be from Old Navy quite frankly. But at Neimans prices. I wish they would dial back on the scented products. Every time I think I'm going to give it a try, I last about 2 minutes before my senses are assaulted by the overwhelming scents. Great if you have no sense of smell. Between that and the poor quality of everything I've ordered online, there are other stores where they keep the air breathable that I prefer. I love Anthropologie. I adore Anthropologie. I worship Anthropologie. Anthropologie embodies femininity. It's classic, it's sophisticated, it's lush and just plain delicious. For two years in a row now my birthday and Christmas wish list consisted of nothing but things from Anthropologie. Yes, I am obsessed. And why wouldn't I be? Every single thing I've ever purchased here has garnered compliments without fail. Their clothes are beautiful and always ultra chic. Their shoes, oh my gosh their shoes, are a feast to look at let alone wear. Their jewelry are major fashion statements. Their bags and purses, love 'em! Their wonderful selection of home products make your abode über cute and stylish. The store is big and spacious. They've masterfully designed each room to create a good flow as you're browsing from one rack to another. Their dressing rooms are one of the best I've seen. It's well lit (soft and complimenting, not garish lighting) and has got ample space for easy changing of clothes. The window, entrance and interior displays are always a joy to behold. It's pure art interpreted through fabric, lace, paper, wood or whatever material they dreamt up for the design. Customer service is definitely above average, although there have been moments when I've come across somebody a bit grouchy or stuck-up. Do not trust this store to honor advertised pricing. I selected 2 pillows for $39 each. They were not on sale, Not in a sale section, and there was no indication on the price tag that they had been discounted in any way whatsoever. Yet when I asked why I did not receive the 20% Advertised Housewares discount on these items, I was told, "Because it's already on sale". When I asked the clerk how she could tell, she was unable to explain given all of the above. She also checked in the store computer (when I asked her to show me proof of the alleged original price), but she could find no evidence of an original price to show me. I love this store! I can buy everything from kitchen textiles and cookbooks to earrings and clothing! Great host or hostess gifts here too. I bought a beautiful glass pitcher for a friend. The jewelry seeks one of a kind in that I don't see it in every store around! They gift box for you if you would like and are always willing to help. Sometimes the gift box in the Anthropologie bag is all you need. It's a beautiful presentation. As far as Antropolgie's go, this is a really really great location. I like it just about as much (well, maybe as much) as the Santa Barbara location. The store itself is gorgeous. The changing rooms are so comfy (great big waiting couch and lit rooms), there's a ton of light, everything is nicely laid out and easy to browse. They have an excellent selection of both clothes and stuff for the house. One star off because some of their items are way too spendy and just not unique or whatever to be right. But some of those sweaters you just can't find comparable cheap alternatives to - gotta come here for something like that. Pretty disappointed with the experience I just had with the Corte Madera store. I placed an order with them over the phone last Monday for a jacket that my local store was out of stock in, as they are a nearby location and were just going to ship it to me from the store. When placing the order last week, I was told by the associate that my jacket would ship out the following day, and arrive shortly (within 1-2 days of shipping) since it is only going to San Francisco. A week had gone by with no e-mail confirmation or tracking number (even though my card has been charged), so I called the store today just to check. After spending some time on hold, the associate came back to let me know that the jacket hadn't even shipped, and that it would be shipping today. I understand that it wasn't this particular associate's fault, and that mistakes happen, but when I gently told her my concern and feedback that they should set the correct expectations with customers, she came off as very dismissive and had an attitude of "not my problem, i'm just going to try and be fake-nice to get you off the phone". I hate leaving reviews like this especially because I've worked in retail and I know how tough it can be. In this case, however, I really got the impression that a mistake was made and that the store didn't want to take any ownership and acknowledge it, let alone apologize. Anthropologie is a great shopping destination. They offer a wonderful variety of globally sourced and unique items at fair prices. We were in the Corte Madera store over this past weekend and had a great experience. Their customer service is really excellent. There always seems to be one of their assistances roaming around to help find what you need. This particular store is well organized for the most part. I realize that the people shopping here are the ones messing things up but their staff gets it organized pretty quickly. I miss seeing all of the books they use to offer. Not sure if they're getting out of the book business or not. Found some great inspirational travel and artist monographs there over the years. Hope that comes back. Overall, the Corte Madera location is a wonderful place to find inspiration for your wardrobe or home interior. read more

A cursory glance of reviews of this store reveals a complete lack of attention from guys, so this review is for my fellow Y-chromosomes. This store is money. It's going to cost you some, for sure, but it's worth it. Every guy should know this store. It has gotten me out of some serious pickles when it comes to picking up gifts for the ladies in my life. And before you take that out of context, I have a mom and a sister. So that's not some attempt to gloat about my love life. If I am ever at a loss for any kind of gift for a woman, I come here. I was reminded of this for my mom's birthday this past month. For all the guys out there who might feel intimidated walking into a store that is definitely slanted toward the feminine, follow this plan. Step through the doors, and head to your right. This is where all the kitchen/houseware/books are. Basically pick up anything, take it to the register, and prepare yourself for oohs and aahs. I don't usually venture to the left, which is where the clothes are, but if you know sizes, I would imagine you would attain the same results on that side of the store. I have found the salespeople extremely friendly and helpful, too. As a result, I can't recommend this store enough for all your gifting needs. This store is like a suburban woman's wet dream! Anthropologie boasts an eclectic array of chic women's apparel and modern home accessories. This store certainly caters more to women than to men. But if men wanted to be smart, they would do their holiday shopping here for their special lady. When you walk in, welcomed by the Volcano candle and spectacularly stunning DIY visuals (windows and in-store), its like when you step off the plane after a long vacation, and though its been nice being away (in Anthro's case, nice for your wallet), its always good to be home. My first few moves are through the home section, idling through the latte mugs, door knobs, glasses and cutlerly, and random cookbooks. I'll quickly peruse the active wear/pj section for tanks, cute workout tops that can also be worn for shopping/errand days, then I wander through the main floor with my eyes set on the Sale room. And if the sale has been extended from the room onto the main floor, then I swivel my hair into a bun, slide my phone into my pocket so I can have both hands to navigate through every single individual item, on the hunt for the perfect little onesy items that are usually hidden between other, still too expensive, goodies. I usually walk out of here with a ton of $9.99 items that had been marked down, furthered, and sometimes returned. But I LIVE for those. And I always get compliments, almost no matter what Anthro item I'm wearing. Favorite brands: Anthro's in-house brand Pilcro (denim); One September; Bourdeux. I also get compliments on the vanilla Eau de Perfume perfume spray I get from there. $17 for the most delicious scent on Earth. I can't live without it. The perfume, or Anthro. This is my absolute favorite location. It's the biggest one in the area. Much friendlier gals than SF, and a more relaxing environment than Berkeley. Home section is humongous, and there are several, large rooms to poke around in. The trick with this location is to go piece by piece in the sale room along the right hand wall. That, my friends, is where you will find those goodies that go unnoticed to the average shopper than used to be $100+ that can be all yours for $39.99 or less.... thank me later. Sign up for Anthro membership: first to hear about sales (in store and online), and a yearly birthday discount. There are no return expiration dates, so if you purchase ANYTHING with your membership card (not a credit card), they can go back and find the online receipt and allow you to return the item. Why are your catalogs so hideous Anthropologie? I mean really! What's up with that tiered and ruched flamenco shower curtain? It looks horrible in the catalog. With it's tones of blues that are gradated from lighter to darker shades. I was hoping that maybe it was just the picture, or the scenery that wasn't doing it justice. Even some of the people I know that are huge fans of the store found a major malfunction with that shower curtain. Then I saw it in person.....perusing the store while my girl looked for some clothing in bright happy colors and prints that even I can't come up with...and I'm creative.......trust me......I was easy to spot in the store, considering I was the only one looking like they were about to attend a funeral in my all black. I looked like a little bumblebee while standing in front of that buttercup yellow dress with feminine floral embroidery. But I do have to say, I make black look good. The shower curtain from the catalog was hidden in the back of the store, behind all the larger vintage style jewelry and the glass knobs in ceramics and eye catching colors. It stared at me. I felt like I was a bull with a red cape in front of me. I wanted to paw at the ground and rush at it. Taking it down and saving others around me from bleeding eyes. Their store is creatively merchandised, with kitschy little accouterment everywhere that remind you of east coast Hamptons. Little bottles with notes in them and pencils in a jar. It's so funny to me though, how I find their clothes so unattractive for the most part. But every time she goes there and buy things and shows me, she looks FABULOUS in them. Some of my favorite clothes that she wears are from there.Those super soft rust red pants that look killer. The cute little tops that flatter her so prettily. Well, I guess if you can go in there, shop, and come out looking like a million bucks then you've really got it going for you right? But then again she'd be beautiful in a paper bag. Anyways, the intaglio style glasses in pastel blue were fantastic and I felt like I needed them, along with the little sugar jar with the bluebird on top. I love bluebirds. I refrained though, considering I just moved recently and should probably finish unpacking before I purchase anything else to put in that place. I'm learning how to be practical. Walking out with nothing but a petite bag (and a Petite Mignon aka Bups), the little white tank top that she got was a great staple. But under the mood lighting, the top looked white and new. Upon getting it home she discovered that those "shadows" were dirty smudges. Hmmmm.......not really what we were looking for. Stopped in on a Friday afternoon and was fairly impressed by the staff. A young girl named Bella kindly introduced herself right away in the fitting room, and was very sweet and helpful the entire time. She was constantly asking clients if they needed different sizes etc, and although busy, kept her composure the entire time. Upon getting ready to leave, I asked a different woman in the fitting room to see if there was a different size in the stock room of a shirt I was purchasing. She promptly told me "no, the shirt isn't back in there", and that someone should've told me. She told me I could order it online while checking out. Fair enough. When I finally checked out and asked if I could order the shirt online, the cashier asked if the back stockroom was checked because it was sold out online, but their system said they had 3 left. Add in allowing customers to bring in their well behaved dog (note, most of the dogs here were big, not over the wrist holders) while shopping and socializing. Trendy, cute and stylish.....I fell in love with many items here (simple)cotton dresses with embroidery for accents as well as housewares (gorgeous pillows) and other knick knacks for that special loft space overlooking a great view. In addition, the staff are pretty obscure in their space, so I was able to peruse without having someone follow me like an assassin. The only problem? So expensive!! And guys really don't care much about plates, blouses, clothes hangers, jeans, etc. unless they are held or worn by a woman--then we tend to care a lot more. :) So when I was dragged in here, I looked for other things that caught my eye and this place is a creative decorators dream. Stuff is on the walls and hung from the celings or holding cups and sweaters that is just too cool. Really rustic totally off-the-wall inventive and clever decorations; rough-cut logs and birch branches wrapped with yarn. Keys thumb-tacked to a wall, antique objects that hold their goods for sale--this is just great out of the box thinking. I went to this location last week and bought a purse. The cashier rolled up the purse and stuck it in the bag carelessly. I took the purse out of the bag and asked if it could be put in tissue paper. I usually shop online but this store is one of the few exceptions where it benefits you to go to the store. First of all, I had no idea that when you order from the store from online you get free shipping which is a nice bonus :) I have been using the Anthropologie app on my phone which makes it easy to refer to wanted items with the sales staff and it will be what I use from now on to come order my online items. The sales room alone is a draw to come to this location. I had a sales mix-up issue and talked with the manager, Nicky and literally within minutes she had: listened to what I was explaining about, understood, and had gone and come back having confirmed-that yes we were on the same page. And with that told me it was no problem at all to take care of my concern. It definitely put me at ease and I thought this was absolutely stellar customer service! A very quick, efficient, friendly and intelligent response. Nicky then alerted the checkout station of my issue so that I didn't have to go through any misunderstanding when I was done shopping. This is a simple yet important and appreciated detail. Excellent communication and great teamwork! Valerie helped me at the checkout stand and checked an availability of an item for me and followed through on Vicky's instructions to a t. She handled all my requests with ease and I felt quite pleased that I had come in to fix my issue and shop. It was a nice experience and was at the standard I wish most places could be like. read more
