And to the assistant in the design department who provided me with valuable input as I considered various rug options, thank you as well.

Lunaria - Store Nov 2014

Lunaria

I went into this store because I am replacing EVERY SINGLE light fixture in a house I just…read morepurchased. I used to live in this neighborhood so was very familiar with the location of this store even though I had never been inside. I decided that I wanted to "shop local" vs purchasing everything online. I have my new kitchen and bathroom designed, the electricians are coming and I am ready to make my selections. I take time from my day to drive over to this place in my old neighborhood. When I arrived, there was another client ahead of me. That was no problem. I wasn't in a hurry as I had set this time aside for this purpose. I was looking around the room and the woman working there asked me what I needed and when I told her, "a lot of lighting" she let me know that she wouldn't be available to help me for 20 minutes or so. I said, that's fine I can wait. Then she asked me if I had made a list of what I needed and what purpose/function I expected from each light fixture. Ummmm. I have a list in my head. I haven't written down a list. I am not a list making type of person but I know my spaces. Then she tells me I need to go home and make a list and come back when I have it because otherwise, I am going to "fall in love" with items out of my budget. Huh?? I was so confused! She had no idea what my budget was. She literally sent thousands of dollars in unsolicited business out the door. This place must not need new clients. That's ok. There are plenty of places that will happily take my money. I walked into an appliance store today and they were thrilled to show me their inventory and assist me in my purchases. It was a stark contrast to my experience at Lunaria. EDIT: To respond to the response. You are not being truthful with what happened. NEVER did you infer that I step out for coffee and come back. I WAS the person who asked for catalogs to look through while waiting and you specifically told me that would be a waste of time without a list. Even your client seemed to pick up on the fact that you were about to lose a customer and she then said, "Here, here are some catalogs if you would like to view them." and that is when I said, "She just said that would be a waste of time and is not her process." If you're going to tell the story, please be honest about what occurred. Super frustrating experience considering I set time aside to come view some lighting and even was very clear that I was in no hurry and didn't mind waiting for you to finish. You made it obvious, you didn't want to speak to me unless I had a list of lighting with what I expected each light to achieve. Those were almost your EXACT words. Not mine. 2nd EDIT: I just saw in your biz description, "Appointments are recommended." This says it all. You could have simply told me, "I would love to help you but it sounds like you have a big project that will be time consuming and I will need you to schedule an appointment. In the meantime, it would be helpful for my process if you make a list..." That would have been much more productive instead of coming across as dismissive and patronizing. As for misrepresenting what occurred, there really is no excuse for that.

If I could give this business 10 stars I would. In October I made an appointment and met with Alia…read moreto discuss replacement of three old lighting fixtures in my home. She listened carefully and presented options within my budget. When the fixtures arrived, and the vendor failed to include a part, Alia intervened quickly, and the vendor shipped the missing part. When the vendor failed to specify the right bulb for the chandelier that I bought, Alia intervened, contacted the vendor about the omission, and bought the correct bulb from a local store. Her husband delivered the correct bulbs in the rain to expedite installation. Alia embodies Retail at Its Best and has the expertise, patience and experience to find the right fixtures for your space. I recommend her and her business highly.

Apparently and most ironically disappointing, I purchased the stainless steel foam, dress hangers at this store location a few years ago but now, CS no longer carries the stainless steel foam, dress hangers within their physical and online inventory.

My kids informed me when they were leaving for the big world outside that everything in the house…read moreshould stay put, meaning I was not to throw or misplace their things. I didn't like the look in their eyes when they said that. But OK it's nobody's fault but mine because, as the Godfather Don Corleone explained , "I have a sentimental weakness for my children and I spoil them as you can see." In my earlier life I had failed as a packrat, instead preferring with each change of residence to send stuff to either Goodwill or the dump. So my kids needn't worry about their keepersakes. I'm unlikely to get rid of anything from my years as their mr family guy, being that for the most part their stuff is what little i have to remind me today of whatever it was I did before that. Not much to show for some 20 years as an itinerant... uh, itinerant. I don't learn from experience, just hope to get better results by repeating the same mistakes over and over and over and... which according to Einstein is the essence of insanity, but wtf did he know. I don't know either, but in my case it's a moot point anyway, at least according to the kind folks in Bellevue's 9.39 ward many years ago in nyc. But being much improved now, I have initiative: wake up, smell the coffee, put on a clean white shirt, get a haircut, shape up/ship out and similar happy horsesht, to wit: I was going to organize things for such day that I blow a fuse or something worse, and things will be in order. To make this happen I would pack everything in some nice plastic boxes, just like the winners in this world. Which is how I happened to visit the Container Store for the first time in my disorderly life. It's a bit intimidating to enter this place. There are so many different kinds of boxes, giving the sense that real people pack things up, neat and tidy in hermetically sealed, moisture impermeable, plastic storage boxes built for the ages. All this is an essential part of the good life. OK, but I just wanted something cheap, that wouldn't turn to dust like my old cardboard wine boxes have done after 50 years. Those are nice, free and simple to use with no selection to make, being that they're all the same size. Plus, you aren't likely to overload cardboard wine boxes when you've saving books or papers. Do that with a larger box and they're quite impossible to move without regretting it next morning getting out of bed. To keep on the sunny side of life, as I'm sure I almost always do, my approach is: can't figure how to solve your problem then ignore the problem. Is the Container Store where all my problems can be solved with the right plastic storage box? Really? Fortunately I did find just the right boxes, in the exact right sizes... the only question was what did they cost? It was my luck that the items I wanted had no prices anywhere, not on the shelf nor the items themselves, nor some sort of sandwich board on the pile in the middle of the store. I noticed this detail was missing on other items as well. Perhaps find someone to explain the pricing, but it won't be in a mere five minutes as store personnel are few in number. So I bought what I wanted having no idea what the total cost would be. But I knew that to be a minor issue with these boxes. The problem for me will be actually using them.
