Already a fan of Republik Coffee in Pasadena, I couldn't pass up the chance to support their new Monrovia location. While it's a lot smaller than the Pasadena spot, it's packed with personality and the same smiling faces greet you at the door. There are a couple of small round tables inside and extra seating outside if you want to enjoy your coffee al fresco. Fun fact: Republik hand-makes all their syrups and even their almond milk! They also offer latte art classes, which is awesome. My husband and I have been interested in learning latte art for a while, so we jumped at the chance to try their Barista Basics class. Ten dollars and two sips of coffee-essenced milk after walking in the door, my suspicion that this was a made-for-Instagram LA coffee shop was confirmed. The barista did not measure the milk. I am gobsmacked by witnessing this. I have worked in coffee for years, roasting and serving, and this kid handed me another reason to wonder if things are ever going to be okay again - Trump, the War in Iran, climate change, the economy, and this cup of coffee. To top off this ritual in mutually-assured humiliation, all dirty dishes must go in a pull-out bin, the handle of which was sticky. I reached the door to leave. The door handle was sticky. I am so thrilled to live so close to downtown Monrovia to be able to enjoy all the local restaurants and cafes on weeknights and weekends. The area is so nice and everyone is so friendly. Sunday morning @ 10:30am - I was lucky enough to find a parking spot right in the front of the restaurant so that was great! The line was out the door but it wasn't anything too crazy. I wasn't too hungry as I usually don't like to eat that much in the morning, so although they have a great selection of breakfast items, I settled for side of two eggs and Turkey Sausages, and of course a cup of London Fog Latte for my IG photo. #PhoneEatFirst Food Rating? I had actually contemplated in ordering the full breakfast for my review. It was actually only $18 so totally inexpensive but I simply don't think I could eat the sides of potatoes, toasts and even an avocado. Wasting food is the last thing on my mind, so I ended up ordering breakfast sides. Surprisingly, it came out nicely plated! I am such a HUGE egg person and always on the haunt for the prettiest egg yolks so the eggs definitely passed the test today! Lol. Perfectly IG photo pleasing so i give that a 10/10. Their Latte? I got the Lavender Oat one of their speciality coffees, it was not too sweet, the lavender flavor had a perfect ratio, and not watered down. The Chilaquiles were flavorful and not too spicy (which is perfect for me because I can't handle too much spice) and its big portions, lots of tortilla chips under. I've been to the Pasadena locations a few times and they've always been super consistent. The space itself is cozy with a subtle luxury feelthe square paneling with gold trim gives it that classic Paris café vibe without feeling overdone. I also appreciate that they make their syrups in-house, unlike a lot of newer coffee spots. If I'm paying $8+ for coffee, I expect that level of detail instead of using standard syrups like Monin or Torani. The coffee itself is solid nothing tastes burnt, and you can actually taste the crema, which tells me the espresso is being pulled properly. I'm not usually a fan of cold brew since it can lean more acidic and slightly sour, but the sea salt balances it out really well. Good coffee, rushed service, and really cramped inside. I just got a hot mocha and it had a really good chocolate-y taste to it while still keeping a coffee taste. Love this new location! There's a super cute back patio so make sure to check it out. It's a smaller space as compared to the one in Pasadena . But the more intimate setting creates a more noisy and energetic atmosphere. This is my 3rd time here since soft opening and the food quality is on par with the other 2 locations ! My only complaint is the butter croissant is almost too buttery. It's very rich as compared to other croissants of similar caliber bakeries and cafes. Service is good. This place is okay. I had the turkey club and an espresso tonic. The espresso was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The turkey club did not really impress me either. Overall, it is passable. They do have some tables, but the space is on the smaller side. If you are trying to eat and also work on a laptop, it might feel a bit tight. Cardamom oat latte - If you enjoy the taste of cardamom then this drink is definitely for you. Rose matcha latte - lighter matcha taste than expected but Rose was a nice complimentary taste. Really enjoyed my visits to Republiq Coffee! The pistachio latte was excellent -- smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. You could actually taste the pistachio flavor without it being artificial or overpowering. Definitely something I'd order again. The mushroom brie toast was also a standout. It was generously topped with mushrooms (which I appreciated!) and paired really well with the creamy brie. It felt substantial and satisfying, not skimpy like some café toasts can be. The other food have been beautifully presented and tasty. There was a long line when we arrived, which seems to be pretty common here, but it moved steadily. Even with the crowd, we were able to find seating outside, which made for a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Overall, a great spot with quality drinks and food -- worth the wait. Visited Republik coffee today for the first time which is the latest edition to the Monrovian high street experience. Actually I had no intention of stopping by as I'd already hit the El Diablo taco restaurant on the same street, so I was rather full after my taco-styled breakfast. Nonetheless there's always a good walk that will shake off the effects of a few tacos. So what attracted me to the Republik coffee house? I think it was the line waiting to place their order and the fact this was new so I decided to join in to get the experience. The cafe has a rather skinny look to its floor plan although they also have an outside patio experience which is at the rear of the cafe. Despite the waiting time (10mins) I ordered a latte and an almond cake. The coffee experience was really good-- they serve their coffee in a nice cup and saucer which always makes the coffee taste even better in my opinion. Their beans have (I believe) an Ethiopian aroma which is a strong lasting flavor. Republik also has an extensive food and drinks menu -- enough to fit most people's expectations. Actually, I think I need to go back and try the breakfast as I saw a few people tucking into this dish which made me feel hungry again! Overall the experience was good -- maybe a little challenged on the floor space but overall a good adventure! read more

Parking can be tricky; either street parking on Myrtle or a parking lot on cross streets. Republik is a cozy, clean little café in Old Town Monrovia with about 6-7 small tables and free WiFi. The space feels bright and welcoming, and the service is pleasant and friendly. It's a nice spot to catch up with a friend, though it gets loud and echoey, so it's not the best place to study or work for long stretches. Parking isn't the easiest, you'll likely need to find street parking on Myrtle or use the public lot on Lemon. We ordered the rose matcha latte and pistachio latte. The rose matcha uses ceremonial grade matcha and their in-house almond milk (which is really good), but the overall flavor is very mild. After the first sip, it mostly tastes like lightly flavored almond milk -- the rose and matcha aren't strong or concentrated enough. I noticed they pour matcha from a premade bottle rather than whisking it fresh, which could explain the muted flavor. The pistachio latte is similar. I can barely taste pistachio, though you can see real blended nuts at the bottom, which I appreciate. Republik is really good but a very pricey coffee shop. Breakfast for two of us was around $57. Everything they're serving up looks delicious, from breakfast dishes to pastries. I had the tuna melt and appreciated the perfect crisp on the bread. They do offer it in either a half or full, and next time I would order a half because it's pretty filling. We also enjoyed the breakfast burrito. The real winner for me was the Strawberry Matcha Cloud. The strawberry flavor along with the matcha was just wonderful. They have a nice little back patio to enjoy your meal, and everything came out pretty quickly despite the long line. I just felt that the price points could be a bit lower. read more

What was formerly Sunday's Old Town Bistro in Monrovia is now Republik! I came by here after lunch with a friend, so we didn't order anything to eat, but picked up drinks to enjoy. They have some yummy looking pastries and their menu includes some toasts, bowls, and sandwiches, as well as a couple special entrees available only on weekends. They did a nice job of remodeling the space to make it feel spacious and modern. There are a few seats indoors and a cute outdoor patio. I ordered the hot Purple Caramel Latte, my friend wanted the Sea Salt Hazelnut Cappuccino, but was told that they don't have anymore hazelnut and actually that item is no longer being offered. Not sure why they left it on the menu... so she just ordered a cappuccino. I enjoyed the latte, it was very tasty and not too sweet. My friend enjoyed her cappuccino. Came by to get coffee before the night market started on Friday evening. Line was short, and staff was attentive. I love the minimalist decorations. They also sell cute products, such as water bottles. We ordered a hot cardamon oak latte. The coffee came out to be very tiny, but it cost closed to $9 with tax. To be honest, I wanted to try the strawberry matcha cloud, but it cost $9.25 plus tax. That would be too much for me. They were out of the Brazil cold brew, so I settled for the house cold brew, blueberry almond cake and a side of scrambled eggs. Cold brew was nice and balanced, The cake was moist and a had a different texture than a normal cake. Took a sec to process, but ended up liking it. The eggs were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I'd like to return to try a few different items, hopefully the Brazil is available. This is another location of Republik in old town Monrovia! As downtown locations are, parking may be hard to find on Myrtle Street. If you go behind the coffee shop, there is a public parking lot with 3 free hours between 8AM-5PM. Be careful not to parking in the restaurant parking lot.
