    Philly Cheese Steak

Great service, prompt seating and a great interior. Was in the area for work for a week and after having Republic after flying in on a Monday I went there twice for dinners having the same thing, the Philly. It's easily the best Philly I've ever had (with the caveat I've never been in Philly and had one from the city that started it all) it had the perfect sear on the beef with perfect seasoning and a great ratio of cheese to beef, the fries it came with were perfectly crisp and well seasoned as well. We also had an order of calimari which was out of this world and the new sauce they had on it was great. Drinks were also great. In the end of the day this place will be a must visit for me whenever I'm in town, and I'll riot if the Philly ever changes or gets removed.

As always, dinner was delicious, service (Julissa) was outstanding, and the music was 80s/90s on a balmy Monday night. I wanted to dance but I kept it reserved with a snap in my fingers, a song in my heart, and beat in my step. I people-watched couples on first dates, eavesdropped (I couldn't help it...they spoke loud enough for me to hear) a four-top, and enjoyed the surrounding clientele. It was so much fun! I LOVE Republic. Period.

Love the outdoor patio area for Sunday brunch. We only received 2 eggs with our 3 egg dish which we never complained about, but I do think it shows a lack of attention to detail that can be improved upon. The pork Milanese was delicious, the arugula salad on top was so fresh. The asparagus was cooked to perfection - I feel like it was plucked from a farm next door and the chef knew what they were doing - wasn't over cooked. Best asparagus I've had probably ever to be honest. I recommend this dish as a go to.

Great food and service continue at this gastropub. Warm and impeccably appointed. Separate dining areas in two levels are perfect for party groups. Philly steak and cheese was a delicious choice. Conveniently located in Bloomfield CT.

Last evening we had an amazing meal with friends. We start with the appetizers of marinated beets and crispy Brussel sprouts- so delicious. I also had the Mexican chicken and potato soup . Just the right amount of spice for flavoring . The soup had a plentiful amount of chicken potato and other veggies. The sour crème topper was beautifully decorative. Our meals were amazing. The pictures tell their story! Our desserts were shared by the 4 of us- bread pudding, triple choc cake and my pumpkin cheese cake was most likely the best cheesecake I have ever eaten! I would go back and just get that and take home!!!! Our server was great and she had made the suggestions for some of our appetizers and meals! Great choices!'

The food here was soooo good, and very clear markings as to what is gluten free and what isn't. Many items were able to be made gluten free with small modifications! And of course it's an absolutely gorgeous restaurant, we wanted to sit outside because of how beautiful the patio was, but the front dining room is airy enough that we were very satisfied there too. Definitely worth going out of your way to come here (I will. Frequently )

Great eatery in Bloomfield with plenty of attractive indoor and outdoor seating. Not a huge menu but there are choices of salads, interesting appetizers and main courses. Good vegetarian options. Waitstaff is always pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu and drink options.

Somehow, this is like THE place to meet in Bloomfield? I got there early to meet a group, and saw no less than three groups gathering members in the parking lot, waiting for the doors to open. One group had matching T-shirts, what sociology! On that note, there is a decent parking lot in back but on a busy night, you may find yourself sizing up the post office across the street. Our server was very friendly, answered any questions on the menu without a hint of annoyance, and offered her own opinion when asked. It was a valuable opinion; everyone was happy with their food and there were no regrets! The food was also quite good. The McDowell burger was juicy and the meat well seasoned. (Apparently it's named for a movie reference?) I did have to cut it into pieces because it's huge! The fries are well salted and have a good crisp to the outside. Finally, the ice cream is served in a fun bowl inside a block - the ice cream can move around, a great defense if someone tries to steal it.

First time going and it was for a friend's birthday so we had pre-fixed menu for brunch. There is a parking lot in the back. They are located in a quiet area which was nice. They have very cool names for their cocktails and of course a nice full bar. Food was good. I did hear that the burger bun was on the greasy side which took away the flavor of the burger. The chicken coconut curry chicken lettuce wraps, fruit cup, french toast, scramble eggs were good. The deviled eggs were cute In a wooden cage. We joked that they were cage-free eggs . Others in the group had the sangria and said it was good. I had the Peachin out and it was not peacy, however, just ok for me. If you like more of a bitter drink then that's one to try. Prices are good and staff was nice. Our waitress Alexia(I think) was super sweet and accommodating. I would go back.

Fork and Fire only offered their Brunch Menu at the time, which I didn't know. I was in more of a lunch mood, but they let me order the Black and Burger off the later menu, which was very nice. Not all cheeseburgers feature melty slices. The Black and Blue Burger featured Crumbled Blue Cheese, Pickled Red Onions, Smoked Bacon and Chipotle Aioli, on Toasted Brioche. The burger was huge and well cooked. So juicy it dripped. A flavor bomb. I also ordered the famous Kitchen Sink wings for the table, along with a side of Blue Cheese AND Ranch. The wings were super juicy. Top Tier Juicy. But the outer texture was still appropriately crisp. The sauce was sweet and savory, with a little bit of heat. Great wings. And the side sauces were terrific too. Service was very good. The atmosphere was terrific. Everyone enjoyed their orders. 4.5 Stars

There were 6 other people at the bar, a couple in the corner & a table if 6 behind me. The manager came out to talk to the couple in the corner about their experience, which is not a great sign, but we'll see. He saw that I was writing a review & never went back in the kitchen after that, unless it was for a brief moment. He involved himself in pouring drinks & barely left my side. He made small talk & I learned that he had been open for 4 years. It was difficult for me to eat, take pictures of the food or write the review with his constant engaging presence. He was pleasant & made sure to pick up the bartenders slack. For instance, a coaster under the drinks, offering me a glass, or putting down a placemats under the food or supplying silverware, none of which she did. I ordered a Modelo, but when she grabbed it out of the cooler, i saw that it was Especial not Negra, so i asked do you have the dark? She said no & w/ out hesitation opened it, not giving me a chance to ask for something different. Not a big deal, but she seemed indifferent & with no affect. None of this is a deal breaker, just an observation. The food, that was a deal breaker. I ordered the (smoked BBQ sandwich) & opted for the brisket. It came with a side & I chose onion rings. They were pre-salted, almost too much, but they were good. No complaints there. The sandwich however was impossible to eat. The meat was very tough & stringy. It was impossible to tear, bite or cut. The roll was soft, untoasted & soggy, causing it to fall apart making a mess. I gave up, turning to fork & knife to cut what resembled a tangled bunch of hair in both in taste & texture. There was something on the meat, but it was more of a marinade than BBQ as we know it. The same goes for the cheese. I did not see any caramelized onions, but there were two jalapeños. The owner asked how the meal was & I said eh. He said only ok? so I elaborated. He said he would relay the information to the kitchen & I thanked him. After that he never came back into the dining area until after I had left. I do feel bad writing this review because he was so overly involved in my experience & he was a nice gentleman that I would like to succeed, but I do not think I would want to return there after my experience with that sandwich, especially for the price. The meal alone was bad enough. Maybe a change in staff would help, unless they were related. I felt bad writing this review because the owner made it a point to be overly engaging with me once he saw that i was writing a review, but the better way to handle things is to make sure that you guest's experience is top notch. I felt like he tried to keep me engaged, so i wouldnt be rough on him, but it is supposed to be about the customers experience, not my empathy for the friendly owner. I wish him the best of luck.

Shout out to Smoke's owner Rich who dreamed up the Dumpling/Prosecco Experience for a dozen regulars and social media followers. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Rich and a small split of Maschio Prosecco. After all the participants arrived, Rich's wife Claire and Claire's mom (the star of the show) walked us through the process of making homemade dumplings. Claire and her mom made the simple dough using just two ingredients -water and all-purpose flour. We watched our instructors mix the dough, stretch and roll into a thin rope, snap it off into small chunks, squish it into a disk, use a mini-rolling pin to flatten it out into a small circle, fill it from a pre-made bowl of Ground Beef and Cabbage, then fold and pinch it into shape. Then our dozen attendees tried their hand at replicating all of those steps. Our mother and daughter team's dumplings looked as though they came off a 3D printer- just perfect and uniform. Mine looked like rejected factory seconds. The mother didn't speak English, but I had a blast watching and copying her little tricks on folding in the corners and squeezing the wrappers together. Once the dumplings were folded and squeezed together, they went into a pot of water, and we all enjoyed them before dinner. Dinner was a real pleasure. I loved the vibe at Smoke. If you want to cool it hip and chic I won't argue. I loved all the paintings on the wall. There is a large painting of a ghostly looking, red-lipped female blowing out a puff of smoke. I told Rich what a cool painting it was, and he modestly said he had painted it. So not only is Rich a fun and engaging personality, and a talented painter, but the food at his restaurant is great. Our friend ordered a $15 Spicy Smoked Philly Cheesesteak with American Cheese, Peppers, Onions on a Grinder Roll with fries. I sampled a small slice, and it was terrific, and yeah -it was spicy. My wife ordered a $11 Shrimp and Roasted Corn Bisque served with pita chips, She loved it. I ordered a $10 Smoked Beef Brisket Chili served with tortilla chips. It was a big portion, full of flavorful chunks of beef, and packed just enough heat to make it perfect to my taste. Smoke offers a Sunday Brunch from 11-3 and a Happy Hour Mon-Sat 4pm-7pm. Their pricing is excellent, the vibe is super fun, the food is delicious, and the service from Rich and his staff is excellent. What a fun evening!

Choices were limited to 'small and large plates', there was no appetizer section. We were asked "sparkling bottled ($$) or tap water?". We chose tap. Server brought an old-style quart-size milk bottle and small juice-size glasses. The water had no ice, so I assumed water was cold, it wasn't. I ordered a 'breakfast' stout, my wife coffee. Stout was served in a wine glass, not a traditional pint glass. Wife said coffee wasn't that hot. When they brought our beverages, wife asked for a napkin since none were on the table. Like most civilized countries, I like to put a napkin in my lap when I sit down in a restaurant. Apparently you need to ask for one here. Young server muttered something about place settings are brought when food is delivered. I guess an ale and coffee aren't napkin worthy. Not sure what they accomplish with this goofy policy. It looks more like some kind of cost cutting measure. We made reservations a week earlier, wanted us to confirm a second time through text the same morning. It led me to think this must be a popular place with people clamouring to get in. Once there, place wasn't bust at all, no waiting customers and a sea of unoccupied tables. Our guest arrived after we ordered our beverages. After a few minutes, I ended up flagging down a server to get her a drink. Another sign we were stuck with a 2nd or 3rd-string staff. Our aunt ordered a specialty drink from their menu; "champagne in a laundry basket", (looked more like laundry water in a wash tub). After taking our orders, paper menus were collected to be reused. Maybe they were saving money on copy paper. I kinda' wish she left one in case we wanted desserts or something later. They were keeping the table clear of literally everything. I ordered a humus plate for use as an appetizer, something to share and couldn't be screwed up while waiting for our main course. When entrees showed up, we all chose 'smoked sausage eggs-benedict', extra servers were in tow with plates, napkins and silverware, napkin place settings given after all plates were on the table. My wife was seated across from me, sitting next to her Aunt Nan. The first plate was placed in front of me. Even being the neanderthal caveman I am, I knew this was the most basic etiquette faux pas (I felt humiliated j/k). Ladies are ALWAYS served first, another red flag from an inexperienced staff. The 'smoked sausage' Eggs Benedict failed on many levels. It wasn't hot, poached eggs were both over and under-cooked- egg whites had chunky white snot, yolks were not runny. The 'smoked sausage', was kielbasa logs cut in half lengthwise, they were overcooked and impossible to cut without flattening and mutilating egg and muffin. They could be used as wheel chocks, I had to deconstruct it so sausage could be wrestled with on the side. Wife said the 'homemade' English muffin had the tap water taste like what we were served 'for free'. I couldn't help but envision a garden hose filling a mop bucket used for filling the milk bottles. The Hollandaise sauce lacked silky richness and flavor, I've had better with McCormick packets. Benedict was overpowered with the taste of the smoked sausage. This meal was our aunt's special treat for our birthdays. They did not finish their meals, leaving mostly the pieces of the hockey puck-hard sausage. Server had been touting the pastry chef for the home-made English muffins. They were not any better than Thomas's English muffins. I am a plate-cleaner by habit, I've even been called human garbage disposal, so I managed to clear this one, (except for the egg snot, it would've taken a straw to finish it). My wife always has leftovers I happily dispose of quietly, not this time, gave it a hard pass. I felt unfulfilled, I was food frustrated, so I ordered some bacon cheese scones and shared them with the table. They turned out to be the best thing we had, warm Bisquick quality with a good taste of bacon and cheese almost as addicting as Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. We consumed them like a pack of hungry wolves. I asked and was told they don't serve them with butter. These begged for butter. IMO, butter should already be on the table. My wife picked this venue for our birthday treat meal with our beloved Aunt Nan from MA treating us. I apologized to her for our disappointing choice. She said she was glad I said it, she didn't want to say anything to make us feel bad. With tip, the bill for 3 was $171.00. We could have had a better meal and service at an IHOP for a quarter of the cost, I know I would have felt more satisfied. This experience made onto my list of top 5 worst eating experiences.
