It's definitely the spot for good eats and service. The bartender that was also serving us was so friendly and helpful. There's a full bar and a little lounge area with sofa seating in the front. There's bar tops and high tops as well. There's ample space in the dining area with booths and tables. Very tidy and clean. The flight of margaritas was delicious with different fruit flavors. Buffalo chicken dip was a great appetizer that could feed a few people. The grilled Cobb salad was AMAZING! I didn't know what dressing I wanted so I got the cucumber wasabi and balsamic vinaigrette on the side. The cucumber wasabi was what intrigued me and it was so delicious. A hint of wasabi flavor but not too much to overpower the palate. I ended up enjoying it more than the balsamic vinaigrette. Absolutely ridiculous. We also asked for guacamole and sour cream. Got salsa that we won't touch instead. We also got pickle chips. No dressing as a side. First time, we finally got to The Spot, after hearing great things about the restaurant from friends. Our server, Aubria, was very attentive and friendly. I got the Reuben sandwich and fries. This is the first Reuben sandwich I've ever had that was not greasy at all, and exactly what I wanted. The corned beef was piled high. The sandwich could have used more sauerkraut, I couldn't taste it, but that was the only negative. The fries were cooked perfectly and hot. My husband had a hamburger (cooked medium) with American cheese, lettuce, and mushrooms. He said it was terrific and tasted like it had been cooked over a campfire, a good thing. I came here with my husband and mom for happy hour on a Thursday at 4:30pm. We thought there was a happy hour menu with drink and food specials, but learner that instead it's the all day menu. Luckily it didn't matter because of the good selection. Trish, our bartender, was so friendly and helped explain the drink and dishes and what was made in house. I was impressed at the amount of things homemade and the large cocktail choices. The Spot Old Fashion had a smoke infusion and the peach sangria not too sweet. They were also reasonably priced at $11 and $8 respectively. The Spot Tots were also great with the chicken and the bee sting sauce. Overall a great visit. Friendly people, good food and a nice vibe. We walked into The Spot only because we sat at another nearby restaurant where no one even spoke to us for 10 minutes, and I'm really glad we did. As soon as we walked in, we were approached by a truly wonderful young lady named Shea. She wore a smile the entire time we were there. She had the perfect combination of attentiveness without being overwhelming. It got a little busier during our visit but the attention never waned. There was also live music playing at just the right volume that allowed you to talk while being entertained. Along with a few beers and glasses of wine, we enjoyed the pulled pork quesadilla. Went to the spot for our first time tonight. Food: .5/ had the pretzel bites with cheese (special). It was good but it was just frozen pretzel bites and like a salsa con queso. Yummy but nothing out of the ordinary. Hubby had the bam bam chicken wrap ($12) ... he said the bam bam sauce was great but the crispy chicken was not good which brings me to my meal - I had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich ($13) ... the chicken appears to be some sort of frozen chicken cutlet and it doesn't taste very good. Seems like that's what was in my husbands wrap as well. Also it was just thrown on a cold brioche bun which made it less to desire. I definitely would not recommend anything that has the crispy chicken. However, many other menu items sounded great and other peoples food looked yummy so that being said ... we will definitely go back to try something else. The prices would seem fair but the sandwiches don't include a side. You can add fries for $4 or a salad/sweet potato fries for $5. Which we did but that means it brought the cost to 16$ and $17 a plate which was unreasonable for what it was. I think they should reconsider their price point to draw in a bigger crowd and be more comparable to other area options. Or increase the sandwich prices by another $1-2 and include fries, with additional up charge to sub sweet potato fries/salad. Service: outstanding. honestly I haven't had service that great in a while. Everyone was extremely friendly ... we were checked on often, and the interactions with staff and their warm interactions with our 9 month old daughter were great. Atmosphere: Good parking. I'm conflicted on this one. I have a very clear memory of the previous bar in this location so I have avoided it. The pros: they have a great menu (which is what lured me in). Steaks. Pasta. Soups. More. In a small town that's all pizza it is a welcome eye opener. Truffle oil all over the place. Artichoke everywhere. Good prices. Good portions. I started with a giant bowl of clam chowder that was fantastic. (I may give them one more star just for that.) I had the ribeye steak which was cooked medium perfectly. It was covered with a sweet sauce and mushrooms that was excellent. My companions had burgers which were huge and cooked perfectly as well. So they do a lot right. The cons: we almost walked out before we started. Took over 10 minutes to get water or a waitress. We started a discussion with her about an appetizer order. They have a potato tot option with a unique set of toppings and a fries option with a completely different set of toppings. we wanted the tots but with the fries toppings. Nope. The very young and timid waitress informed us there are no substitutions. We didn't recall seeing this on the menu. Seemed ridiculous to us so we sent her to ask the chef. Again. Nope. No substitutions. So before I would pursue taking this any further I proposed that if I ordered the rib eye $25. Could I then get a different side? Say fries instead of the smashed potatoes promised on the menu. She met with the chef and came back with a "yes. We can do that." Good call because it kept us there. I'm glad it did. The rest of the meal went well. We ended up with a hefty order of appetizers, soup, salads, burgers and a steak. 2 glasses of wine, coffees and desserts. $115 total. Not bad for a place that was not crowded on a Friday night at 7pm. Important to mention: they did a great job of renovating a former townie bar into a semi classy dining spot for families. It's brighter and smaller and decorated in a way that says they do not anticipate any drunken brawls. However they blocked a fire exit with a booth and that former door had quite a draft around it. We froze. They also removed a former 2 stall ladies room and replaced it with a single seat family restroom. I'm not sure if there's still a men's room anywhere. So there is no escaping children destroying the restroom in their own unique ways. They still have the bar and they added a nice couch seating area nearby. I would have given them 3 stars just for the inflexibility of the chef and the single rest room but added 1 back for the clam chowder. Will probably go back with a smaller party in warmer weather. read more

It's great to have a new place in Tolland. This is my second visit to The Spot and both times the food and service were very good. I ordered the soup of the day and Cobb salad.
