Was in the Storrs area, looking for lunch spots on Easter Sunday l, and we came across this Tavern, went into just have some appetizers. We ended up ordering a ton of food for four of us. Clam chowder soup chicken wings and tenders with Thai sauce Hand cut onion rings Lamb Satay ordered this twice as it was so good and well made Chicken Curry - a surprise dish which was simple and very tasty, was made it to taste. All the food was good and has come in time. The restaurant was not too crowded, may be because of Easter Sunday and the time we went there were a couple of tables occupied. They have a full bar and drinks available. The seating is booth style and the place has plenty of parking. All in all good experience, will go back to try more of the entree items next time. Giving a four star due to a slight fishy order that was bad as we enter the dining area. read more

Went for an early Saturday dinner. It was quiet when we were there. Clean. Please. Great ambiance. I'd love to be here when the fireplaces are on. Service was friendly. We had drinks (I tired the pomegranate cosmo. It was ok!) and a great appetizer - tika masala fries. For entries we had the herb crusted chicken and a chicken Marsala with linguine. Ended with a glass of wine and gin & tonic. We are moving soon but if we weren't we'd be headed there again! read more

Beautiful, peaceful restaurant. Really good food. The night we went (mid week) the resto was almost empty. We had Excellent, personable service from Emily. Since then trusted friends have gone. Food was good but the service wasn't. In fact my friend had to get up to go to the bar to order second drinks. Food production/ service was incredibly slow. I was disappointed to hear that. Hopefully this will become a regular place for us but sometimes stories like that can make you doubt your choices. Perhaps when school starts up again there will be a larger labor pool. read more

I would give minus stars if I could! We went there for Sunday brunch today, and it was one of the worst meals I have ever in my life had. Firstly, it has a typical breakfast menu, not brunch. The eggs over easy were so overcooked the whites were crispy, and the yolks were solid. The ham that came with them was a poor quality deli ham in thin slices - nothing like most breakfast ham. The home fries were from frozen cubes heated up with some grease. The quiche was about 1/4" thick with a crust so soggy that it wasn't crust and most of it stuck to the plate. My coffee, decaff, was instant! I doubt anything was freshly, or homemade - except the overcooked eggs. The entire breakfast was bad enough to be inedible, and cost about twice as much as a much better meal would at a Blondie's. read more

My family tried out this restaurant this evening, and we were happy to discover that it's a great new sit-down option in Mansfield (which the town sorely lacks). I look forward to returning. The atmosphere inside is nice, with more light than the previous restaurant. I work at UConn, and I'll be able to bring guests here. Not totally "fancy" (aka still fine for my family with teens) , but white tablecloths, etc. I noted that they have a bar, but we didn't try anything there. My husband and I started with the beet-avocado salad, which was fantastic. My son had a side salad- which was pretty usual, but notably had a tasty dressing. My son and daughter both had build your own burgers. Quite good, especially the side of onion rings! My husband had a fish rueben... which sounds strange, but was delicious (and quite afforable!). I had a scampi fettucine pasta, which was good with lemon, mushrooms, and tomatoes. We had no room for dessert. Maybe next time! read more

First let me just be open that I am a chef, and furthermore I have worked with the owner. Having said that here is my review, and I hope to return again soon. This is a welcome, and I feel needed addition to Storrs as there are just a few pub type restaurants in the area. First the menu is great because while it does have your typical tavern fare it has more upscale items too, and I think it's a perfect blend. We went for my daughter's graduation from UCONN today, and had a table for eight. Several of us (not me) love mussels so we ordered two for appetizers. One was the green curry, and the other was the classic blanco. I was told that both were very good. I can't pass up good onions rings, and these ones were hand battered. They were perfectly crispy. It seems seafood was on the menu as my three daughters all ordered the lobster, and penne a la vodka. I stole a bite, and the sauce was great. My wife ordered the fruit of the sea with spicy marina which had just enough without being overly spicy if anyone was wondering. The portions were huge. One of us ordered the fish sandwich, and when it came I could tell it was hand-breaded. It was a huge piece of fish on a toasted bun. Someone got the fried clam strips. Again these were perfectly crispy, and another doggy bag went with us because of the portion size. I love a good burger, and will have to to back to get one, but I was drawn to the pork dijionaisse. I know what you're thinking. Who goes out to eat, and orders a pork chop. Well I did, and you should. I don't know how big this chop was, but I'd guess between between three quarters, and a full pound. It had a wonderfully flavored crust coating all over it, was seared to perfection. It came on top of mashed potatoes, and the sauce was perfect The desserts are great. Normally I don't go for chocolate lave cake, but this one was dense, and the sauce was thick. The key lime pie is amazing too. There is something for everyone as prices range, but even the higher end items are priced perfectly reasonable. Also the portions are huge. I think everyone who ordered an entree walked away with a doggie bag. My brother-in-law like it so much he's taking my wife, and his mom back for mothers day. I look forward to my next dining experience there. I see that another reviewer posted the service it terrible. I disagree. I will say the service could use some improvement, but the only reason for that is when we went, and when this other person went the restaurant had only been open for two weeks. There is always a learning curve. Two of our meals came after the others, but only by a few minutes, and they compensated us with a couple of orders of clam chowder which they didn't have to. Also we were given the wrong dessert because they gave us a slice of key lime pie by mistake instead of the cheesecake because they look so similar. So we ended up with an extra dessert for free. For those tiny errors the staff went above, and beyond to correct them, and I expect the restaurant service to become a well oiled machine in the coming weeks. The other review said the food was mediocre, and not made in house. I don't just disagree. That's just outright not true, and I'm not saying that just because I know the owner. But don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself. read more

I really wanted to like this restaurant because of its excellent location and historic building. Unfortunately, after three tries, I'm done. The only two dishes that we enjoyed were the chicken curry and the samosas. Both were really good. But every time anybody in our party orders a sandwich, the bread was extremely soggy to the point of actually being wet on the bottom piece. Really gross. The burgers were supposed to be "smash burgers" but they just seemed like regular burgers such as anyone could make. Certainly not worth the charge. The fries tasted good, but there's an up charge for ordering fries with a burger--come on! The homemade chips were clearly fried an oil that was not fresh since they tasted like a mix of the samosas and smoke. The atmosphere is OK except the music is inconsistent, sometimes it's playing and that's nice, sometimes they forget to play the music and all you hear are the mumblings of the other people in the restaurant, or the TV, which I personally don't like while dining. There is great potential for a cozy restaurant space, but it is missing the mark and I can't quite put my finger on why. It's not upscale enough to have an elegant and spare space, but for a tavern it just seems empty and randomly decorated. The bathroom also needs work from a hygiene perspective. y shouldn't need to touch. Again, I wanted to like this place -- I wanted to so much that I tried three times. Oh well. I am done. read more

the food didn't seem like it was made in house. The service was very slow despite that the restaurant was not at all crowded. We sat there for exactly 56 minutes before our food came in. The prices as compared to other restaurants in the area were high. The food was mediocre. read more
