    Chicken Chettinad medium spice
    Raquel W.

Visiting from out of town and had dinner here and it was hands down delicious. We ordered samosas, lentil soup (so good and a must try), chicken chilli (sweet), lamb vindaloo spicy (my fav) and chettinad chicken (medium spice), everything was really delicious but my faves were the lentil soup, lamb vindaloo (spicy) and the chicken chili (sweet). The flavors are so succulent, and food was. The perfect pick me up cozy comfort I was looking for. Service was very fast. Food came out hot. If your are considering, give them a try! Highly recommend. Restaurant was not initially crowded but quite a number of guests joined half way through the meal. They have a decent number of seats inside and a drink menu as well.

The food here is excellent. Posted pics of what we ate: Chicken Tikka, Saag Paneer and Veggies in Cashew/Coconut sauce. The service is always very slow. If you don't have a few extra minutes, then this isn't the place to go. I do enjoy the authentic music in the background, but it was way too hot in there. The food actually came quicker than usual today, but was delicious as always.

First time trying Indian food and it was recommended by a friend. ABSOLUTELY delicious. Chicken tikka was so rich and just amazing.. can't even describe the taste but it was so good especially w the garlic naan. i ordered it medium spicy but it wasn't spicy at all): The coconut curry was also AMAZING like i might like it better than the tikka. We also got it medium spicy and it was a good kick (unlike the tikka) but not too spicy either. The onion naan was oooookayy probably wouldn't order it again. It tastes good alone but not really with the dishes. Portions look small but it was SOOOO MUCH. and i eat a lot.. i was surprised about how filling it was -- not to mention the unlimited basmati rice. Actually soo delicious definitely recommend. Service wasn't amazing but I don't even care the food was slap. Chefs kiss ;*

The chicken tikka Marsala was very good. The sauce was very creamy and the chunks of chicken in it were big and cooked well. The spices were very fragrant and the food was filling. The rice came in a metal bowl which kept it nice and warm. Our server was also a very nice person, it was his first day. The service was decently fast. The restaurant turns into a bar and has music at night also.

    Cockroach

I want to write a great review...I really do. The waitstaff is always so kind. We have eaten here many times and the food is very good. But every single time we go, there is a hair in our food. We wait a few months and try it again...another hair. It has been two years since went and decided to try again. Last night, as I was packing up our remaining daal and rice, there was a cockroach in the bottom of the rice bowl. Never again! I'm both angry and sad about it. Why Kathmandu? Why no attention to cleanliness?

I love Indian cuisine and have been happy with the food served at the restaurants (NY, Providence, Worcester, Boston) where I've eaten. And though the food was really good at all those places, I didn't have GREAT come-back-twice-in -one-week Indian/Nepalese food until I dined at Katmandu in Storrs, CT. The cordial greeting, the beautifully set tables, the quiet thoughtful waiter, even the music combined to create an atmosphere that was both comfortable yet dignified. But the FOOD is the most important thing. The chef came and greeted us and asked us what would like. When I told him I wanted something that wasn't on the menu, with a particular sauce, he smiled and said, "I will make that for you!" And for the first time ever, the dishes we ordered were truly mild or truly medium in terms of spice. Everything- the rice, the main courses, the naan- was DELICIOUS and hot and beautifully presented. If you enjoy Indian cuisine, you have a treat in store (Storrs) for you!!

Wing Express: A Personal History In April 2001, I had my…read morefirst ever bite of Indian food. It happened at the urging of my eighth-grade girlfriend, in one of Wing Express' hard orange booths. Back then, the cuisine was an exotic unknown to me. I wish I could say the experience was revelatory, but I didn't even know enough to mix the styrofoam cup full of spicy vegetables with the second cup full of fragrant basmati rice. I ate them one at a time, then reported to her it was too spicy and that the consistency was sludge. I think she dodged a bullet when we broke up a month later. In the intervening quarter century, I became a vegetarian and fell gratefully into the arms of a cuisine that always guaranteed me a raft of options; went off to college and learned to love the uncomplicated boldness of the takeout spot near campus; moved to Arkansas for my first job and gratefully devoured any "ethnic" food I could get when I came back to Connecticut on breaks; became the urbane New Yorker I'd always secretly wanted to be and lived through the city's golden age of fancy Indian that is still blossoming today; got to gorge myself on the real thing when in Delhi last winter for the wedding of a lifelong friend. Three new Indian spots have risen in Storrs in the time it's taken me to transform into my Platonic conception of myself. And each time I try one and then return to Wing Express, I'm convinced they got it right the first time. It's the best malai kofta I've had anywhere. My favorite aloo gobi. The only place I know that sells aloo mataar. It still feels new like it did when I tried it for the first time, still feels like a privilege the way it did when I'd eat it on breaks from being a school teacher rural Arkansas, still feels simple and authentic the way it does when I compare it to the best I've had in New York. Sometimes the past doesn't die or even change; its significance grows as you evolve. The older I get, the happier I am that Wing Express is still here.

There not a lot if decor either. The music is authentic and they play Indian MTV. The immediately start you out either a beer pitcher of water. For my drink, I'm having a Limca (you just grab it out of the cooler). Limca is an Indian multinational brand of lemon- and lime-flavoured carbonated soft drink made primarily in India and certain parts of the U.S. It contains 60 calories per 150ml can. The formula does not include fruit, relying instead on artificial flavours. In an interview in 2008, Ramesh Chauhan of Parle Bisleri revealed that he had approached the owners of Duke's Lemonade, requesting them to share the formula for the drink with the promise not to make it in India, which was turned down. Chauhan decided to come up with his own formula, which he launched under the Limca brand in 1977. In 1992, when the Indian government allowed Coca-Cola to return for operations, at the same time as it admitted Pepsi for the first time, Coca-Cola bought local soft-drink (soda) brands, from Parle Bisleri owner Ramesh Chauhan including Limca, Thums Up (a cola-like drink), Maaza (a mango-juice based drink), Citra (a clear lemon-lime drink), and Gold Spot (orange flavour). Prior to 1988, the original formula of Limca contained brominated vegetable oil (BVO). After worldwide reports of ill effects of BVO, its use in soft drinks was banned in India. As a result of this ban, the formula for Limca was changed. This is good (artificially flavored or not). For my soup, I'm having the Chicken Hot and Sour (spicy). This is a popular Indo-Chinese soup made with mixed vegetables, mushrooms, soy sauce, herbs and spices. It has a balanced taste that is spicy, tangy and hot. The soup is usually thickened lightly and flavored with ingredients like ginger, garlic, vinegar and pepper. This is good! It's not too salty. It's hot and spicy. Lots of chicken too (it's small chunks and at the bottom). Ceramic plates and metal silverware. That's a good sign! For my appetizer, I'm having the Chicken Makai Kebabs. Otherwise known as Reshmi kebab, this is [technically] a Pakistani dish of boneless chicken marinated in spices, cream, and cashew paste, and then grilled in a tandoor. The name "reshmi" translates to "silk" and describes the kebab's tender, silky texture. Some recipes use ground chicken and cream cheese to achieve this silky texture, creating a "seekh" kebab instead of a "boti" kebab. Indians make it a lot too. This is a LOT to eat! It's steaming hot! It takes a while to cook so be patient. The spices are defining unusual. I like the Indian version of cole slaw too as a side dish except they use of onion. It's crunchy. Yummy! There is a new place opening up across the mall called Sakura Haven. The new venue plans to feature an anime theme with cosplay, a live DJ, karaoke, and other themed entertainment events. Signs were recently installed at their new space. Sakura Haven has been operating as a pop-up at various bar around Connecticut. The new venue is their first physical location. For my entree, I'm having the Chicken Madras. Chicken Madras is a flavorful, spicy, and tangy Indian curry originating from the southern region of India and the city of Chennai, formerly known as Madras. The dish features chicken in a rich tomato-based sauce made with a unique blend of Madras curry powder, which is a mixture of South Indian herbs and spices. The curry is known for its heat, which comes from chili peppers or paprika, and its tangy, citrusy notes. I'm told they use coconut here. You can add naan but I don't eat a lot of bread. This is steaming hot! I love this sauce! It's not very spicy but I like it! What a great meal here!

THE FOOD My friend and I decided to go here for the $10 beer & burger lunch special advertised every Tuesday-Saturday. I frequently walk past the sign advertising their deal and when my friend said we should grab lunch I immediately suggested this spot for that reason. It was a Wednesday afternoon at 12:30, but unfortunately we were told we could not have the special since they don't do it on game days. The game wasn't until 7pm but it must be an all day game day thing. Disappointing but we moved on. Grilled chicken sandwich -nicely toasted bun, flavorful seasoned chicken, good aioli. If I came back I would eat it again. -fries were pretty good too. -after paying and looking at the receipt I realized I was charged more for the sandwich than what was printed on the menu (didn't say anything to them) Sweet & sour cauliflower -my friend enjoyed it. Said the sauce was good. They were small baby cauliflowers but a decent sized appetizer for one. Not much for a large table to share but fine for ~2 people. She wanted something small for lunch so it worked out well. THE DRINKS -after not being able to do the deal with the beer my friend went with the angry orchard on tap -I got a screwdriver. It was fine, a basic well drink. Didn't taste the vodka really so not sure how much their standard pour is. THE SERVICE -service was polite, attentive -we were the only ones in there for most of our time, so I'd be curious how service is when they get a bit busier. THE ATMOSPHERE -typical bar/restaurant vibe -nice bar, it seems like a cool place to hang out and watch the game Overall it was a nice lunch catching up with my friend and I'm glad I was able to check out the new location. The food and drinks were good--what you'd expect for a typical bar & restaurant and it's a nice, friendly, clean environment. If someone wanted to go back here I would join but it wouldn't be first on my list to recommend in Storrs Center. I ended up spending about $30 on a lunch I was expecting to spent around $13 on, so I'd say check the game day schedule so you aren't disappointed like us. Overall I'd probably rate this closer to 3.5 stars so I rounded up to 4.
